Not sure why you think the people being cut are in FL- the article makes it sound like it is primarily Disney+ and tv production cuts, which are entirely in California. If there is more info available I would be interested but no one I deal with feels their job is in danger from this announcement.

The linked article gives no specifics on the cuts other than restructuring and non sports content.  But if you want to link one that does, I'll read it.

Yeah, it's across the board, not just (or even a major part) in Florida.  And it has nothing to do with DeSantis: Disney mismanagement is all on them.

Where are they going to go?  Florida is where companies and people relocate to.

Thanks for that Roundy, I think the reason the book(per the linked article) is being looked at is because teachers may use the content about racism to further an agenda to teach all white people are evil racists. But I mean come on, to pretend there was no, and still is racism in this country is ridiculous. Is there now no longer any middle ground?

WSJ (paywalled) explains it nicely. The streaming wars are killing profits, and content production costs are a big part of it too. No indication of any drop off in park attendance, etc. a fundamentally very strong company going forward. 
What no analyst is saying: that people are running away from Disney because of its political stances. 
These political backlash/boycott things almost never work. Either way. I remember the Chick-fil-a fallout that was supposed to ruin them. They’re doing just fine.

As a white kid growing up in Buffalo who hit reading age a few years after MLK was assassinated, I learned about civil rights and life in the pre-civil rights South by reading biographies of sports stars. Hank Aaron, Satchel Paige, and others. I think some of them actually used the “n” word in describing their experiences in the old South. I would hate to see books like that taken off library shelves. They taught me some valuable lessons.

I agree with you sir, my experience was the same.

 

But in today's world of activism, school libraries should be conscious of what books are available for certain ages, because (unfortunately) there is increasing indoctrination as opposed to education.

In either case, the attempt to use this as some type of example why Ron Desantis is a "bad" man is transparent and wrong.

Great points. but the thing that stuck out the most is those schools must have sucked if you never were taught that.  Especially as this state was a hot spot for the suffrage and abolitionist movements.  

 

Kinda reenforces the fact NYS schools lead the nation in cost and dropouts. not much else.

Absolutely I should’ve been taught that in school, in addition to my extracurricular reading. Later on I ordered a Scholastic book (anyone remember those?) about Frederick Douglass, and that one also made a big impression on me. 
I don’t agree with the “ban woke curricula” thing just as much as I don’t agree with the “ban Hank Aaron’s autobiography because he writes out the N word when he says what fans were yelling at him. This ban stuff is crazy. So are some school boards. I’m glad I learned about the embarrassing stain on America’s rise alongside learning about the tremendous vision of our founding fathers. I still remember a middle school tour of the Douglas Zion church with a Douglas actor doing a remake of his speech. it stuck.  

Now of days that would probably not make it to any curriculum.

The Florida High School Athletic Association's board of directors has voted 14-2 to remove questions about high school athletes' menstrual history from a required health form for participation in high school athletics.

Thursday's emergency meeting focused on the debate around menstrual cycle information.

 

The vote comes after weeks of controversy surrounding questions on the medical form, which is typically filled out by a physician and submitted to schools. The board approved a recommendation by the association's director to remove the questions, which asked for details including the onset of an athlete's period and the date of that person's last menstrual cycle.

I don't know, I'm gonna hear what they all have to say for themselves first.  I definitely don't want President Trump.  While I think Governor DeSantis  can win the nomination I'm not so sure he can win the general.  He's gone too overboard on the culture stuff. Democrats are better at this stuff than him and will eat him alive.
