GETTOTHE50
I always put my cart back. Well, I forcefully push it back from a distance. Kinda like I’m trying to score a goal, but with less care.

That reminded me of a story from years ago at Price Chopper. I was sitting in the parking lot and saw a woman heading out of the lot pushing one of their carts. Well, this particular store has the wheel locks if you try to take them out of the lot. She gets to the loop, and the wheel locks. She tries to push it, but it's not moving easily, so she goes, grabs another cart, loads her stuff in, then tries to head out of the lot again. And again, the new cart wheel locks up. She didn't even have that much, maybe three bags. She gives up, just leaves both carts in the exit lane of the parking lot and walks off with her bags. Punching Bag
This is exactly why some stores add wheel locks. I have seen people leaving carts at bus stops and one a mile and half at bus interchange spot. I very doubt they take cart back when they go to store again. At grocery store here they have wheel locks and I discovered if you did not want to cross the road in shopping plaza but park at corner of building cart could not reach car there. I parked there in handicapped spot because it was pouring out and did not want to walk thru water with soft cast on. Next time I took the motorized handicap cart and it would drive all the way to that spot. I never did test to see how far it would go and could you leave parking lot with it! Rob's House
This theory is false. I've always returned the cart, usually to the front of the store, and I'm deplorable.

Keukasmallies
I shop at Wegmans in Fairport, NY. I figure if the company is considerate enough to supply shopping carts, I can be considerate enough to return them to the corral, or the store entrance. JMF2006
I always put my cart in the barn. I think people are either naturally lazy or they think they are saving some ones job. Just an FYI on the saving some ones job.....while some simple minded people might think that the person rounding up carts can only do that menial task they could be helping old people load their cars, stock shelves or even open another checkout to get rid of the line up. IslandBillsFan
I had a weird situation yesterday regarding this theory/philosophy. I was at a Lowes home improvement store. As it was crazy hot, I parked all the way in the back of the lot where I could be under some shade. This was about 100 yards to the front door of the store. I bought some plants and other items inside and used a cart to wheel them out to my car. When I unloaded them I looked around and saw that there were no cart barns. (At this point I thought of this thread.) I saw another cart in the middle of a parking space a couple spots down from me. I ended up putting the other cart with mine, and lifting the front two wheels onto the embankment near my car. They were not in a spot or the middle of the parking lot. Was I wrong not to walk the carts all the way back to the front of the store? I figured since I gathered a second cart and at least moved them out of the lot I did an ok thing. shrader
I saw an odd one this weekend. An elderly woman returned to her car in the handicap spot. After moving stuff into her car, she looked for where the cart area was, saw it, then decided to wheel her cart over and leave it in the middle of a large area intended for unloading of vans with wheel chair ramps built in. The odd part, the spot she chose was actually further away than the cart area. I'm not really sure what the thought process was there.
