Bill O'Brien will kneel...JJ Watt says kneeling is no disrespect to the flag or military

What if McDermott announced he would kneel?

299 members have voted

  1. 1. Would you be in support of McDermott kneeling in protest with his players this year?

    • Yes, I would support it
    • No, I would not support that

They did a recent poll of this and more Americans agree with the players kneeling at this point.  If the NFL is looking to the long term health of the game they'd be wise to support players kneeling given its support among young people.

The poll asked the question, “Is it OK for NFL players to kneel during the national anthem to protest police killings of African Americans?” The results were interesting:

  • Both male and female respondents agreed that it was, by a margin of 52 percent to 37 percent (male) and 52 percent to 34 percent (female)

  • Younger respondents tended to be more favorable to the idea, with 68 percent of those 18-29 agreeing that it was. That number steadily declined to 36 percent of respondents over 65

  • Self-described Democrats strongly favored the right to protest, at 77 percent, while only 20 percent of Republicans, and 20 percent of self-described Trump voters, answered in the affirmative

  • Along racial lines, 77 percent of blacks, 57 percent of Hispanics, and 47 percent of whites answered positively

  • Among respondents with incomes of more than $100,000, 63 percent agreed with the right to protest, while 49 percent of respondents with incomes of less than $50,000 agreed

Yahoo News, it’s gotta be true.

Are you saying they made up the poll results out of the thin air?

No, I’m saying that since I use an Yahoo E-mail account, I have seen how they slant the news of the day, and I would not trust any poll they put out. E-mail’s OK though, the new ads they have now are only a minor annoyance.

Count me among those supporting the players right to protest.  I did some investigation on police shooting statistics and this is what I found.

Stats on people shot to death by police:

2017 White 457, Black 223, Hispanic 179

2018 White 399, Black 209, Hispanic 148

2019 White 370, Black 235, Hispanic 158

2020 White 172, Black 88, Hispanic 57

We can adjust the number proportionally to population or per capita view but these are the raw numbers.  I didn't generate the numbers as they come from a data service called Statista and while I have no reason to suspect the source is unreliable I haven't validated that assumption.

You realize of course, it's possible to not like any of those things and complain about them all?

Of course. But someone who has previously been fine watching the NFL, and only now has a problem, is standing on very questionable moral ground. I don't expect everyone to like watching players kneel for the anthem. It is not something that offends me in the slightest but I respect others have different values they were raised on. I'm just saying if that is the one value you hold above all others, you're misguided. We can debate all day if what the players are doing is right. Whether it's worth a boycott IMO is not really up for debate.

Good for you. I'm holding out to see if the Bills take a knee. If they do I'm gone too. I'm glad you wrote what you did.

Do you really think that NO Bills will kneel?!? I’ll save you the 3 months of anticipation. There will 100%, definitely, without question, be Bills players kneeling for the anthem.

Yeah, but it's better to say he's holding out to see because no one will remember he said it 3 months from now when he's at the home opener.

I am thinking about starting a poll to see who is "so f@#$ing done with this team!" if players or coaches kneel.  Someone should do it.

I love the guy who is putting out the satirical ranting videos, and ends each one with "F$#% the NFL!......... And GO COLTS!"

You should make it public, then we should pin it the week before the opener!

There are far more white people living in the United states. Therefore the numbers you posted don't really tell us much.

It's much more useful and informative to look up "shootings per 100,000 people" categorized by race.

Here's a good website, with charts and adjustable toggle switches and so forth.

https://mappingpoliceviolence.org/cities

Key Findings:

  • 26% of U.S. police killings between January 2013 - December 2019 were committed by police departments of the 100 largest U.S. cities.

  • Black people were 38% of people killed by these 100 police departments despite being only 21% of the population in their jurisdictions.

  • Only 1 of the 100 largest city police departments did not kill anyone from Jan 2013 - Dec 2019 (Irvine, CA).

  • 47% of unarmed people killed by the 100 largest city police departments were black. These police departments killed unarmed black people at a rate 4 times higher than unarmed white people.

  • Rates of violent crime in cities did not make it any more or less likely for police departments to kill people. For example, Buffalo and Newark police departments had relatively low rates of police violence despite high crime rates while Spokane and Orlando had relatively low crime rates and high rates of police violence.

  • From 2013-2019, St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department killed 34 black men and Oklahoma City Police Department killed 25 black men. This is an average rate of 7.0 per 100,000 black male population in St. Louis and 8.5 per 100,000 black male population in Oklahoma City - a higher rate than the 2018 US Murder Rate of 5.0 per 100,000.

Literally zero people on this message board are going to stop watching the Bills. Players on the roster have been kneeling since 2016. If you’re fanatical to post and lurk here, you’re not going anywhere.

I’d be curious to see the metrics from this site for 2016 against the average for things like posts, new members, clicks etc.

Also OAN is getting brought up. It might as well be 24 hours of Alex Jones. It’s not news. It’s not FOX, CNN, or MSNBC. It’s trash, absolute trash, and shouldn’t be taken seriously...ever.
