(WHEC) — It was a violent Fourth of July weekend in Rochester that left many in the hospital. The Rochester Police Department responded to 12 people shot and one person stabbed. The first incident started around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. A 23-year-old Rochester man was dropped off at Rochester General Hospital by a private vehicle with a gunshot wound to his lower body. The man sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators say the shooting occurred somewhere in the area of Avenue C and Conkey Avenue. Later Saturday night, a 33-year-old Rochester man arrived at Rochester General Hospital by a private vehicle with at least one gunshot wound. Officers say the shooting occurred on Bernard Street near North Street. The man's injuries are considered to be non-life-threatening. What’s the result of defunding the police anyway, other than having less officers on the street? So....let’s pick a city and have the police stay in the station for a few months. Detroit police released the body camera video, along with another video from a squad car’s dashboard camera which showed officers fatally shooting 20-year-old Hakim Littleton after he pulled a pistol from his left pocket and opened fire. Detroit police chief James Craig said he released the video hours after the incident to quell “a false narrative” that the shooting was unjustified. The “erroneous information that was put out has incited violence,” Craig said during a press conference at Public Safety Headquarters. The shooting happened so quickly that “our officers did not draw their weapons, did not fire, never stood a chance – never had a chance,” McAllen, Texas, Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said in a statement to the media. The police department learned about the fatal shooting when other officers stopped by the scene to do a routine check, Rodriguez said. The officers were responding to reports of a violent disturbance, Rodriguez said. “They were doing their job. That is what we are supposed to do.” The officers approached the door of the residence after meeting people outside the house who reported that a disturbance or assaults were occurring inside, Rodriguez said.
