DK Metcalf mea culpa

I don't think he'd have the same productivity with Josh that he has with Wilson.  We would not be singing his praises the same way as a result.

That said, he'd be a nice toy to play with.

I absolutely think he would have had the same impact with Josh Allen....Josh throws to a lesser version of Metcalf in Duke Williams just fine.....and Duke has make some plays and he has dropped some big balls that were catchable (some for touchdowns) at key moments

That said?  I am STILL ok with drafting Cody Ford because ppl just get short sighted on things....we did not know what we were going to have in Spain and Jon F. this year and Cody Ford is going to be a VERY good OG.....you need these guys to to protect your Josh Allen investment (who is not going anywhere) and the offense is NOT COMPLETE yet.  PPl forget that that this team just came out of a full blown rebiuld....we did NOT retool.....

I am perfectly fine with Beane's draft....and there is a strategy to it to me especially in the 1st round

- Tre White draft - supposed to be a very strong corner draft....and it was

- The Josh Allen draft - supposed to be a very strong corner draft.....young stars are coming out of it

- The Ed Oliver draft - supposed to be a very strong down linemen draft....Ed  Oliver is a stud

- Now we come to this draft....supposed to be a very strong WR (and edge) draft.....

I am hoping he continues to follow suit

The problem is Ford has no business at RT.  He may become a mainstay at G, but he doesn't have it at T.

If you have access to The Athletic look at the grades they give each game.  Ford has graded out well when playing guard, but is the lowest rated Bills player on the list of players who qualify for season long grades because he grades out so poorly when playing RT.

None of us know that.  He got better at RT as the season went on. O-line play in college is awful. Give him another offseason and he may be fine. At worst he is probably a very good guard but if he can play RT it solves a lot of issues on the line next year

The athletic isn't a football Bible and lots of lineman take more than 1 season

Line play around the league is down because lineman aren't coming out ready as much.. Look at the other tackles drafted in the same draft

He did better than a good amount

I'd rather re-sign Waddle, keep Nsekhe and move Ford to guard ASAP.  I don't look at film & I don't know if you do either, but Joe Buscaglia does some pretty intense film study and has said Ford belongs at guard, not tackle & I trust his opinion.

Yes, you totally called this on draft night—I recall trying to cheer you up with Oliver memes about his horse and what not :D; but turns out a true #1 WR sometimes isn’t a luxury after all...

Tackle is still infinitely more important than WR

And you need to give a lineman a few years

You CAN find a WR anywhere from round 1-4

Hell you can find WRs in round 7 and UDFA... There are more WRs with draft eligible grades now than ever before

And the tackles with draft eligible grades are getting smaller by the year

Hindsight is always 2020

Disagree - in our situation. I would rather have had DK as a target for josh than having another OT. Josh would have been further along in his development because he would have had an option instead of playing hero ball. Basically I think he could have started to get the ball out on time with DK and would have rather have that occurring this year.

Of course, it didn't need to be one or the other; we could have used the Singletary and Knox picks to move up into the bottom of the second round to get DK. I would have been ok with shady or cj anderson at rb and whoever at te this year to make that happen. Pretty steep price to pay but would have been worth it. We would have come out of the draft with three first round talents.

Man, if there was one guy I didn't want the Bills to draft last year it was DK Metcalf.... would he ever be an asset to Josh Allen in hindsight.  Would have made a hell of a 2nd round pick

i wanted him alot and was pissed and confused about it, kind of like this playoff loss.

Maybe Beane's next QB choice after Allen was Lamar Jackson?

And he would look like Tyrod 2.0 in s Bills uniform. Greg Roman has designed an offense to develop him. He is great but needed a Roman to be successful.

Singletary is going to be one of the best backs in the league for the next few years. I would not give that pick back for anyone.

100% correct. One is a top flight wr, the other a rotational DT who was largely invisible.

I will always give you props for being correct about DK.  He's a stud and a major part of a great offense.  I still think Oliver was a solid pick, given the state of the Bills at the time of the draft.  We can agree to disagree on that; but I will easily admit that I was wrong about Metcalf.  Dude's the real deal.

I know this thread is about Metcalf but even if you assume that Beane did not see the value, it does not excuse adding more talent at the receiving position. Emmanuel Sanders was available in the middle of the season. He could be had and yet we did not try/outbid the 49ers. He would have been a great vet presence on and off the field for a young QB. There was no excuse not to get him

There was no "win now" mentality in the front office. That could be a huge mistake with the schedule next year. You never know what can happen from season to season in the NFL, so I don't understand the lack of urgency to take advantage of the weakest schedule in years.

That's like saying he's the prettiest girl in the ugly chick sorority.

HEes still pretty ugly from a play perspective.

Please prove that statement.

He had two really good games, and the rest of the year did next to nothing.

Could he become a good rotational DT? Sure. Is that worth a #9 pick? I doubt it.

It’s worth mentioning that people were arguing whether to take Metcalf with our 9th overall pick.  That was nuts.  Many of us who didn’t want to see that would’ve been happy to have the Bills trade up into the back of the second round to grab him.
