Bills host OG Quinton Spain from Titans***Update...SIGNED***

Recommended Posts

Don't read too much into FA follows on Social Media. Remember when LeVeon Bell started following Shady and Gore a couple weeks back amidst "rumors"?

It's generally them trying to get another team to think they might go elsewhere. Or perhaps in Spain's situation, maybe he met some people in his visits that have him wanting to keep in touch going forward.

Seems like everytime this happens - it's meaningless.

Agent ploy.  Pretty sure the Jets were the only team in on Bell and at that point they were competing against themselves.

The reason I believe Quinton Spain prefers the rams and California are because of the story when a woman slipped him a micky and robbed him of 20% of his salary for a year.  Giving me the feeling he's a flashy guy and not a small market guy

Deep thoughts ? into another’s psyche ?interesting

I picture that as a pretty good comedy routine where the Jets call his agent and make their offer, then call back to say in interested party just made an offer (referring to the jets offer) where the Jets then make a counter. His agent calls back and says that the interested team upped their offer and the Jets up theirs again until finally they say it's too much, then his agent calls back and says good news, the other team is out and he will sign with the Jets.....

I am not sure that isn't exactly how it went.  He and his agent had a pretty good routine going for two or three days until the Jets said sign or we are out of it.   He was trying hard to get the money he lost last year.  Still think he was getting terrible advice.

If I were to hazard a guess, I don't think he's getting signed before the draft.

My guess is that the reason he isn't signed yet is that he's asking for more money than anyone wants to pay him right now.   But that could change a lot after the draft.  If someone needs a guard and doesn't draft one high, they might be willing to pay his demands.

Of course the risk for him is that enough of the desperate teams fill their slots with a newly drafted guard and therefore won't pony up the high end money for him.

A game of chicken while gambling for contract money.

News flash:. The BuffaloBills have signed ten free agents this off season, many of which had other options.  Sources say that it appears That's No Moon's geographic preferences will have no impact on Spain's decision.

Jesus Christ, did you even read the post I was responding to?  The person I was responding to was speculating that Spain would prefer Buffalo because of his background.  All I did was point out that his background doesn't necessarily have anything to do with where he wants to play now. ?

I think you have this backward.  He will get more before the draft.  The risk he runs is that some team interested in him drafts a good guard and drops out of bidding.  As fewer teams are interested, the price teams are willing to pay will go down.

He isn't signed yet because no one needs a guard as badly as he would like to think.  He has to recognize that people aren't going to pay as much as he wants.

Just pay him a little extra and get it done.......you do this and your OL is set for starters going into the season and we can gamble on a project OL later in the draft because of it.

What’s a little extra?  For all we know, he’s looking for 7-9 mill a year.  No ty.

And then there are OTA and training camp injuries to think about.  You never really know how someone’s value will fluctuate over the off season

I think as a general rule, the more time that goes by, the more your value goes down.  Yes, it's true that injuries occasionally may make a guy more valuable, but I think even that is unusual.

A guy like Beane decides how much a guy is worth, and he doesn't pay more.  In Spain's case, for example, Beane has a price he's willing to pay.   One reason Spain hasn't signed, perhaps, is he doesn't like the money.  A second is that he doesn't like the competition. He's a afraid that the money that Beane is offering isn't real, because there's some chance he gets cut and never makes even what Beane is offering.  When a guard in Buffalo gets hurt, Beane doesn't think Spain is more valuable, but Buffalo just became more attractive to Spain, because he's closer to a guaranteed spot on the roster.

You have to remember that as far as Beane is concerned, free agents are stopgaps.  They are guys he hires to fill a spot until he drafts a guy who will be the guy he wants.  So Beane is not going to overspend.   Now, when Beane thinks he may be going to the Super Bowl and he desperately needs a guard, yeah, then he might overpay Spain to get to the Super Bowl.  But Beane isn't in that position, so I doubt he's overspending.

Obviously there is a cap on the "little extra" lol

Nsekhe says himself that he is less effective on the right side. Dawkins has shown himself as such. I'm wondering if they don't move Dawkins in to LG (which, I believe, was his position at the draft), and Nsekhe at LT? Could we see Nsekhe, Dawkins, Morse, Spain, Waddle/TBD?

Also, I'm not sure we can assume Nsekhe or Long offer a whole lot of versatility. Long was apparently a train wreck at center.

injured thumb or something ?

I had no idea what you were talking about but what a crazy story!  https://www.google.com/amp/s/syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/2691105-titans-ol-quinton-spain-allegedly-drugged-robbed-by-woman-met-at-orlando-club.amp.html

it happened in Orlando, so it wasn’t exactly a big place.  But maybe LA might be a little too much for him.

L.A. Proved too much for the man
(Too much for the man, he couldn't make it)

So he’s joining the OLine in Buffalo, oohhh
(He said he's goin')

Makin’ holes for running backs to find
(Running backs to find)
Ooh ooh ooh, what's left of McCoy
The moves he left behind
Not so long ago

Spain’s goin' back to find
(Goin' back to find)
Ooh, a simpler place in time
(Whenever he takes that ride) ooh
(Guess who's gonna be right by his side) (Mitch Morse?)
