Shady McCoy on ESPN First Take

Recommended Posts

“I’m a Buffalo Bill, you know I can’t pick the patriots.  I want the rams to win”.

They grilled him twice on the beatdown accusations.  He didn’t seemed worried about it all.  Wasn’t as animated as I thought he’d have been regarding that situation.  Didn’t really talk about the bills too much.

He bet on adrian Broner vs manny.  Lol.  Broner is an idiot.

Gave McCoy the opportunity to tell his side of the story on the off field stuff.  Discussed if he was worried it would impact his career, which he isn’t and said team was behind him.

Discussed a little about his year and McCoy cited the significance of losing their “best lineman” in Incognito, and also Wood and Glenn.  Also mentioned how tough it is to have 4 QBs in 16 games due to injuries, especially to their “star rookie”.  But said he’s confident in Beane and McD to get the right pieces and expects to be in playoffs as he doesn’t feel we are that far off.

Then they discussed if penalties should be challengeable, McCoy and Stephen A both said no they shouldn’t be while Max said yes.

Then discussed if Rams can pressure and get to Brady.  McCoy said if Rams blitz Brady he will make them pay.

Said he’s a Buffalo Bill and picks Rams, but needs to get pressure up middle, not from blitzing or Brady will make them pay.

McCoy was then asked about Wentz and Foles and he was very complimentary of both QBs.  They put him on spot who he would want if he was on Eagles and in playoff game, admits he is biased because Foles is his friend so he would take Foles but was very complimentary on Wentz still and said he’s a baller.

Airing now. Not sure what they’re talking about but just saw it come across one of the TVs at work. Anyone tuning in?

Why?  McCoy tuned out after week 10...

I'm guessing that's why McD had had enough of him dogging it when he benched him for the bus tardiness.

Need someone a LOT hungrier as the Bills feature back.

Why do you say he was dogging it?

The benching doesn't seem like a big deal. McCoy's never been the most disciplined guy, but he's a super competitor. The coach holds everyone accountable to the same rules, regardless.

haha. Spose it's better to give no effort and show up on time than be late.

Sadly that life lesson holds up a little too often. Preferably give effort and be on time. But put some emphasis on the effort part of life..

When did you say this season: "man, McCoy's really hustling out there, but just can't get it done"?  What superstar RB would sit around as he was given 18 carries over the final 3 games of the season?  He was kicking back, waiting for next season.

And along those lines....It would be uncommon, particularly for McD, to take the most significant vet on the team and schoolboy him like that in front of the whole team  unless there was a LOT more to McCoy's behavior or attitude.

I'm sure McCoy dogged it especially at the end. Sure there's more to it since coaches give preferential treatment to vets.

Bet there's something more to it.. like being late several times on top of dogging it and generally giving up on the year (which again, can definitely see a vet like McCoy wondering what's the point when he's been around so much. Nevertheless a bad example on a young team)

Favre being the laziest veteran for over 10 years on the Packers was one of the NFL's best kept secrets.. unless it wasn't as much of a secret as I had thought.. idk. His biography, Gunslinger, was pretty enlightening to me and really hilarious at how many POS stories he got away with for being the top dog in Green Bay for so long.

The Falcons chapter was epic. Nobody ever seems to remember he was the OG Johnny Manziel in Atlanta.

No.  He missed the team bus.  McD doesn't care who you are, you make it to the bus on time.

No he didn't. Stayed up all night on Vicodin binges and playing Sega, puking the next morning, napping during film study everyday.. then proceeded to crush it in practice and have an MVP campaign.

An American hero. Ty Detmer had to poke him awake during film study and tell him what to say when Holmgren asked him a question.

Pretty sure McDermott wouldn't have liked the cut of his jib

Missing the bus at this point of his career after this kind of year on the last game....that’s a big FU from McCoy to McD.

There’s obviously more to it doc.  And it’s not difficult to figure out

Well, he was called out by the coach publically, had his snaps dramatically reduced, and was cut.  Seems like a pretty strong message to me.  ?

You should write cliff notes or movie summaries bro. Good stuff.

Favre's rep as some upstanding citizen with the CASUAL fans is really outrageous. Dude always had some drama going on. Great quarterback though. I just always find it annoying when the media tries to paint someone as something they're not.

He is a grade A jack***. Probably the most undeserved reputation of the  good ole boy Quarterback. Man had his demons.

But he's so fun. He's essentially a waaaay worse version of Cam Newton (on the field, they're not even close in character at their respective ages off the field) but.. you know why Favre's the great American hero and Cam isn't hahaha.

Favre is Johnny Manziel with a SB and 3 MVPs

Well Favre never wore unique hats. I'm sure that's the reason for the disparate national perception.?

I want some of those Copperfits though!

I'm sure you'd like there to be more.  But it wasn't the last game of the year (it was against the Cheaters, not the Dols) and his big punishment was...missing just the 1st play of the game.

My bad.  Next to last game.

But why would he miss that bus?  And why wouldn't McD let it slide?  Vets get a break on every team.

Missed just the first play, you say?

He had 6 carries for 9 yards doc.  He missed the whole game.

I don't know why he'd miss that bus.  Let me guess: he was planning his next ex-girlfriend beatdown?

He missed the bus, he had to be penalized.  Maybe the "vet break" was just missing a single play?

And Shady doesn't call the plays/determine the number of carries he gets.

I mean, he already voiced his frustrations multiple times and indirectly blamed his o-line (deservedly so).

You're expecting him to publicly voice displeasure with the coaches, I guess?

There's consequences if you're late to the bus. I would expect McDermott to hold every player to the same standards, regardless of vet/superstar status. Why do you think the coach wouldn't do that? "Schoolboy him" was an odd choice of words.

Fixing the O-line will help everyone.  And with 3 starters from last year hitting UFA and likely not to be back in anything other than a backup role, shots can be taken at the O-line as a whole.

Pretty sure all franchises, all in sports, have internal housekeeping rules of this nature.

If they didn't, pro athletes would do whatever the hell they feel like with regularity, and chaos would ensue.

I can totally understand why they need to strictly enforce rules of this type with these guys.

Why did he pick that game, in his whole career, to miss a bus?

And no, he doesn't call the plays.  That's left to the guy(s) who feel the plays they call with the personal they call them with will have a chance to succeed.  Hence....6 carries.

The bus seems to have left without "Shady" alright...

No I think the coaches had reached their limit with his crying.  "Missing" the bus was the last straw.

Other backs on both teams without the best O-lines still go out there and grind it out.

Possibly.  And when they didn't trade him, he checked out.  And McD wasn't having it.

I think it is a mistake keeping McCoy. Even catching passes he made no one miss and looked like he just wanted to run out of bounds most of the time. The Bills o line sucked and needs a lot of help but Mccoy looked like a shell of himself.

Regale me with your speculations WEO.  Why do you think he chose that game to miss the bus?

And he missed the previous week because he was injured.  So him playing probably wasn't the best move.

I've already stated why.  So I'll ask you again why he would choose that game in his career to miss a bus to a game.
