JAX vs. MIA Game Recap

RECAP: Dolphins Lose Final Home Game To Jaguars

JAX vs. MIA Game Book PDF

Jaguars vs. Dolphins Game Center

1. If the Miami Miracle was the Dolphins' high-water point of the season, the last two weeks have been a waterfall -- or a massive drain. Miami has fallen flat in two straight weeks, first getting blown out by the Vikings in Minneapolis, and then failing to muster anything more than seven points against a very beatable Jaguars team. How beatable are the Jags? Jacksonville found itself in the red zone on a possession Sunday and ended up punting three downs later, on fourth and 46. Those kinds of errors are excellent in their rarity, yet Miami didn't take advantage of any of them. And worst of all, when tied 7-7 midway through the fourth, the Dolphins collectively crumbled, capped by Telvin Smith's pick-six of Ryan Tannehill, which followed Jacksonville's go-ahead field goal. The Dolphins lost to a Jaguars team so befuddled offensively, it turned to Blake Bortles when it became clear a banged-up Cody Kesslercouldn't lead them to a win.

2. It will be interesting to see how these last two weeks affect Adam Gase's future as head coach of the Dolphins. His tenure has been filled with tumult, but also promise. They had the look of a team that might have been capable of a playoff appearance, but fell short. On one hand, you have a coach who managed to keep his team competitive despite losing his starting quarterback and being forced to replace him with Brock Osweiler. But the other hand includes these last two games, which have been awful displays from a team in playoff contention. He and GM Mike Tannenbaum will be the focus of discussions entering January.

3. This is the Jaguars defense we expected to see for most of the season. Fresh off a 16-13 loss to a Josh Johnson-led Washington team, the Jaguars stood tall and did much of what led them to an AFC South crown last year: They pressured the quarterback (six sacks as a team), kept the opponent out of the red zone (one trip) and completed the trifecta with the ever-important defensive score. We're teetering on the Jaguars potentially blowing it up after this season, but this could be a win that prevents them from doing so, instead addressing their offense while keeping most of the defense -- which can still do its job, as evidenced Sunday (and twice against the Colts) -- intact.

NFL Week 16 Grades: Dolphins get an 'F'

Dolphins: F

Someone must have forgotten to tell the Dolphins' offense that Miami's season was on the line, because they choked big time against Jacksonville. After scoring a touchdown on their opening drive, the Dolphins offense didn't do anything for the rest of the game. As a matter of fact, here's how their final nine possessions went: Punt, punt, missed field goal, punt, lost fumble, punt, punt interception, punt. The interception was especially ugly because it was an ugly pick-six thrown by Tannehill in the fourth quarter that iced the win for Jacksonville. With 183 yards, the Dolphins were held to under 200 yards of offense for the third time in four games. The Dolphins lost despite an impressive performance from a Miami defense that racked up six sacks and held Jacksonville's offense to just 10 points.

Cameron Wolfe ESPN Staff Writer

Ryan Tannehill will start Sunday for Dolphins, not planning to sit starters. Adam Gase cites injuries as a key role in missing playoffs, and he said he doesn't need to lobby to keep his job. He said if Stephen Ross wants to make a change, he'll let him know.

The Dolphins' home finale was embarrassing on many fronts, and the next couple of weeks could be the start of an overhaul in Miami.

Tyrod never made plays in the 4th quarter, especially not on 4th down. Fake News!

And something about Bacarri Rambo in that shot made me think about how much these fringe roster guys move around. Not sure why that caught my eye.

Sigh.  Last game of the year and we have to listen to Beth friggin Mowins.  Ehhhhhhhhhh

She's got that Syracuse taught "woman with a manly sports journalist voice" down. Beurelin sucks too. May be one of those muted games for me.

Another meaningless week 17 Bills game.?

True, and the first for this regime.  Fortunately all the others were under the guys you wish were still here.  ?

Put the radio on GR55 and listen to Murph and watch on TV with the volume down.

Looks like I will go and watch this one live.

Besides beating the Phins Sunday will start a Happy New Year celebration :)

We tend to win games against mediocre opponents when it can hurt our draft position so guys, I'm doing it; I'm betting 5k on the Bills.

And props to the poster who quoted Mowins using "yarrrrrrrds." Excellent use of words to describe that accent/voice. I hear it in my nightmares, but could never figure out a way to translate it to letters. Pahcked Howse at the Carrrrrier Doohme!

...have they charged that poster's wife yet with his "disappearance"?.....I'd start with the back yard for shallow graves..............

Haha. My hunch is that he never made such a bet, but all we can do is speculate.
