Shady is a team Captain who is helping Allen get acclimated. He’s not just an aging RB. The Eagles should appreciate this team dynamic, irrespective to what they hope to receive from Shady. As as for any signal that the Bills “gave up” on the season, the players should realize that a team is not an individual. We have other decent RBs. That said, to help ease any perceived pain, they should send us a player back that we need. It will then be seen as addressing a need, rather than jettisoning our best RB. dezertbill Posted October 9, 2018 Share Posted October 9, 2018 (edited) Ivory has had some good games for Buffalo, including the one McCoy sat. I also like Murphy who has looked great at times. If we can get a 2nd and 3rd for McCoy I'd say do it. As much as I love Shady, he's more of a east-west guy, and at 30 he doesn't have many years left in him. Those 2nd and 3rd rounders could be starters for our team for years to come. Beane has done well in the draft after the 1st round so I'm all for it. I also read that Tevin Coleman might be available from Falcons. He would give us some added value as a receiver out of the backfield and can line up as WR as well as RB. IF we could swing him for a 6th I'd be all for that. I think with McCoy gone, and having a backfield of Ivory, Murphy and Coleman that would give Josh ample weapons in the backfield to be successful. Is he upset that the Bills would even entertain the idea? Is he thinking that it’s just business? Is he thinking he needs to be on a better team for HoF consideration? If Tyrod or a respectable vet QB was starting and Allen wasn't going to be thrown in until the last 5-6 games of the season I would not hesitate to trade Shady for a 3rd straight up. But if the long term game is to develop Allen then taking away his best offensive weapon (When he is already surrounded by such little talent) for a 3rd round pick gives me pause. Now if it was a 2nd round pick straight up I wouldn't hesitate to make the move because that return on Shady is too good to pass up despite the hurt that it could cause short term. I wouldn't hate Shady for a 3rd as I get that is a good return for an older player on a big contract (I would love to get Warmack as a throw in even if it meant kicking back a 6th or a 5th.) I get what your saying and Allen’s development is the only reason I’d hesitate to take just a 3rd.....but I think Allen’s development is bolstered more by an OL/WR/TE/RB that will grow with him over the next 5-10 years as opposed to shady for 1 or 2.
