The Draft Network's Jon Ledyard Eviscerates Allen’s Week 2 Performance

You can just tell the bias on these though, the one with the guy hitting him at the throw is "fairly accurate", the one where he leaves the pocket he refers to as panicking, the Ivory play, he has a guy who hasnt cleared the other defender and then a guy is in his face, so he runs. He references him being a 3rd round grade even in his commentary, but then says its because he is competitive? that doesnt add up either, felt like just a reason to get that in there

Is he this hard on all the QBs?

It sure seems with his language that he's convinced Allen is not what we believe he is.  But maybe he's this hard on everyone.

He isn't just an analytics guy the way he is breaking down plays.  a typical analytics guy is only looking at stats/numbers....

At the end of the day - I really don't care what the opinion is of these folks.  If Allen is getting wins - and improving, then he is what I want him to be.  If he's not getting wins but still improving I'll also be happy....  Regardless of these op-ed pieces.

I don't think he's being too hard. He clearly gives Allen kudos for the improvements he made. I have no issues with these guys analyzing the film and expecting more from a young guy over time. Grade the film for Allen the same as you would Brady. These are unbiased analytics guys.

I think he's saying that his draft analytics have him as even worse than a 3rd round grade, but he bumped him up to that spot because of his competitiveness.  He basically thinks JA has Nathan Peterman potential.  lol.

I'm an analytics guy - data science is very helpful.

One thing though - it's only as helpful as what you put into it.  Sports analytics is still a relatively young field and there are a LOT of variables unaccounted for.

So - it is a bit annoying that this guy does not seem to acknowledge his grade could be wrong...  It would be a fascinating case study if these people were to run the same analytics over the data on some HOF QBs against their college careers.  I suspect what they'd find out is that analytics isn't the whole story and they need to tweak their models to get better at it.  If all other talent/opponents college QBs faced were equal - you could focus on the measurable from only the QB.  But in reality, surrounding talent/coaching/opponents are vastly wide ranging - and that has a huge impact on the QB's measureables.

It's OK to be wrong John Ledyard.  Stop throwing crap like "this is why I had him as a 3rd round pick" in your weekly breakdown.  Critique him on the evidence before you, sans your prior judgement.

This guy is a class A asshat. After two and a half games of experience, Allen is still looking for consistency? Genius, in-depth insight and analysis there.

I’m interested to see his “grades” for the other QBs in the clsss.

This dudes needs to be trolled hard.....he is a pompous ****head....I don’t mind being critical or skeptical about a player but he gets off on Allen being bad

Well, he has an entrenched position. AFAIK, he is the only “pundit” who gave Allen a 3rd round grade. His very credibility as a talent evaluator is on the line every time Allen shows promise and contradicts that position.

I have to wonder how much these self professed "analytics guys" actually have any education on the matter. it wouldn't take much to know that the statistics they have available don't support the conclusions they draw from them. yes data science is helpful but only if you know how to do science properly.
