What if Allen isn't good tommorow?

Part of me almost wants to see him throw a pick. To see how he handles himself. The thing about Allen is the arm strength is to the point where he’ll never be able to doubt whether or not he can “make that throw” which I feel is what leads to gunshy damaged QBs and compounding errors... late throws due to indecisiveness throw at 70 mph still have a shot to get there...much better than late lame ducks.

Plus...you know Daboll gonna dial up a play action bomb after INT #1.

As long as his mechanics keep going the way they are going...I will be more than happy to accept the risky homerun seeking turnovers I think we’ll see from Allen.

If he isn't good then he isn't good.

for a game.

it's one game.

just like he's only played less than 1 full game and played well, we shouldn't anoint him king of all QBs ever just yet.

it's one game.

QBs have good games, they have bad games.

there is zero verdict on him for a very long time.

I'm as excited as the next guy for Allen to win the starting job. I'm also a Peterman advocate, and am 100% comfortable with him starting if need be.

If Allen fails tomorrow though, are we back at square one with McCarron, Peterman and Allen? I'd like to think no, but listening to media this week, there seems to be this narrative that it's Allen's job to lose and I'm not so sure.

I spelled tomorrow wrong. Oops

If Allen doesnt check the box that needed to be checked then he continues his development

Seriously, he's going to have to exhibit a Peterman-esque type of performance with 4 or 5 picks in order for me to think that, yeah, maybe he needs to ride the bench for a bit. Other than that happening, I'm good with Josh Allen as our starter.

If he looks poised in his preseason debut as the number 1 QB, we can rest assured that we’ve found our franchise guy. Just like the last time:

Even more so if he performs reasonably well in the real season opener:

...know it well...LOL....deja vu circa 2017, right?.....when your passing game is LESS impotent than OTAG, forfeit....I did.............

OT, not talking about a season's worth or even a full game.  Just a little more than a half. It is Darnold's job in NY, with two other good qbs, and he was 8-16 for 1 td in the third game.

If he does poorly it means he has room to grow before taking the starting job. Once he starts he needs to stay in, the worst thing we could do is the start him, bench him yo-yo approach.  So I'd rather know that he's not ready tomorrow as opposed to during the regular season.

I also don't want him to start if he is going to be pressured on 95% of drop backs.  We don't need to get him hurt, or turn him into Carr.  I still remember Trent Edwards before he was murdered by the Cards, he was a real QB but after that he was Trentative. Don't need to risk Allen learning to play afraid, although he doesn't seem to be the type to become a fearful fearing player.

Or on the flip side, him being the most mobile of the 3 QBs, may give us the best shot with this (possibly) crappy OL.   Additionally, the fact that he can keep defense honest by throwing deep may give enough breathing room for Shady.

When Manuel was the starting QB, the DB's dared him to throw by crowding the LoS and stopping the run.  Manuel failed.   Will Allen deliver on that promise.    While our philosophy (overall) may be the run setting up the pass (and protecting the confidence of the rookie),  Allen would have to threaten with the deep pass so as to allow the run game to flourish.

and how do you know " dog " is not allegorical . #itsGugny for gosh sakes !

but he has a dislocated pinky.

maybe comes cheap ?

I do not think anyone here has access to the sacred documents that detail

 The Process.
 Good question though.

The Process needs to have a talk with the OP @Steptide regarding BBFS.

I still don't even know what the process is. I also know this thread will get bumped the second Allen makes a big play. I'm rooting for him. I'm just curious as to what the coaching staff does if he is bad today

There have been verdicts on him since high school.  Among his recent verdicts were being considered good enough to be the 7th pick overall in the draft. Another recent verdict is being named starter for the dress rehearsal preseason game. Next verdict will be whether the people he works for think he qualified to start the first regular season game.

If Josh fails today it's one game...or half a game. Don't panic. He won't though so it's a moot point.
