Hard Knocks 2018: The Cleveland Browns

Why are people talking about distractions? The Browns are 1-31 the past two seasons.  They can't get any worse.

Because for whatever reason people on this board have manufactured this false narrative that Hard Knocks is some how some massive distraction that hurts the team but really that's just a total myth.  Its actually quite interesting to the degree its exaggerated here.

I actually like Baker Mayfield ?. I was referring to the fact he already has his own reality show called “Beyond Baker.”

I don't even blame him...nobody has believed in him except himself for a big part of his life.

Do you believe that McDermott would want to participate in such a fake reality show? Of course he and his staff would want no part of that foolishness. Few people would categorize it as a major distraction. That's your exaggerated characterization. The reality is that many if not most organizations don't want to participate in this silly charade. Participation is not voluntary---it is imposed by the league.

This show is designed for self-promoters like Rex who relish acting before the cameras. It favors coaches who have a manufactured stage to showcase their schtick. It  is not an activity that serious minded coaches and organizations want to be involved with.

I'm not saying that the concept of Hard Knocks is a good thing or bad thing. However, I am saying that it is a stupid and inauthentic show that has no appeal to me or most people.

Except most of what you just said isnt true and are nothing more than your general "assumptions" and "opinions" of the show.  I have close friends who make this show and can assure you just about everything you just said its totally false.  And they are the assumptions of many, not just you.

But the show is not a fake and scripted reality show like many others are.  Its fine if you dont personally like it, just saying the argument you are making against isn't really very accurate.

PS:  A couple of those people I know on the show are also now working on one for College Basketball too.  Can't disclose the team, but its a big one and will be out I think next year.

If you believe that McDermott is interested in having his team showcased you are deluding yourself. If you believe that Belichick is interested in having the cameras intruding into his training camp then you are out of touch. If you find the Hard Knock experience entertaining then so be it. My point is that it doesn't do anything positive for the team that is being highlighted.

You don't think that the cameras won't gravitate to a coach chewing out a player? Or the cameras focusing on a fight between players that get involved in a fight or skirmish? What does that accomplish for the team or players?

The Bills have a lot of catching up to do to build a contending team. They still got a long way to go. Having the cameras rolling for public consumption is an unnecessary distraction for a team that doesn't need it. If the Bills, and most teams, exclude the press for much of the training camp then why would they voluntarily be receptive to a Hard Knock crew? The simple truth is that they are not interested in it. They are forced to do it. What does that tell you?

I don’t understand what you are talking about here. Nothing you are arguing is anything I have discussed?  I haven’t mentioned one single word about the Bills or McD, so maybe you should go back and read what you are replying too because you’re discussing things with me that I have not once mentioned.

The point that you missed is obvious. Most teams have no interest in participating in this act because they see nothing positive coming from their participation. If you find these episodes entertaining or enlightening then watch the shows. I have no interest in them. It's as simple as that.

Except everything you think you know behind the scenes is wrong.  So there’s that too.

..if Hugh goes from 1-31 to 6-42, he definitely deserves COY......even Stormy Warren can't top those "hard knocks"....

Again, you missed the point. I'm not interested what is in front or behind the scenes. If you enjoy the series enjoy it. I have no interest in it.

Appreciate the insight. Can you ask your friends what percentage of the video shot ends up on the editing room floor?

Then could have just simply said that like 5 times now.  But you didn’t, you spewed false facts and all this other stuff I wasn’t even discussing with you about McD, fake reality, other coaches, etc.

Lmao.

A Lot, they shoot for a week and condense it down to one hour essentially.  And there are multiple camera crews shooting all the time during that week.  So it’s an immense amount of content.

They probably have at least 50+ hours of footage they cut down to 1 hour each week.

Thanks again. I was in the same ballpark as your estimates.

I like the series for what it is; a surface level view of some of what goes on in a training camp. And while I realize it’s not “scripted” like other reality television, I am mindful that it is heavily shaped to support certain selected emerging narratives as they arise. It is  also predetermined what players will be the initial focus and for good reason as that mirrors fan (audience) interest initially.

As much as I enjoy it each season, I hope we are never the subject of it. It is a major distraction and the less of those a team has going into a season, the better.

Right. Never understood bashing old players when they left on good terms.

Wish them the best until they play vs us.

I personally like this series and the one that was on amazon prime (forget the name). I feel theyre as real as a reality show gets on tv.

A football team isnt going to manufacture drama for the sake of ratings. The browns dont care about the show’s ratings. Whatever drama is present will be real. When you put 100 men together in a high-stakes environment the drama comes naturally.

Im rooting for the Browns to do well. Their fans have suffered enough.

Let the elite of the AFC turnover for the next 15yrs from the Steelers and Pats to the Browns and Bills.

99.72% The ratio of footage they keep is about 360:1, that is, it takes 6 hours of footage for every minute that airs. The average 5-week season approaches 2,000 hours shot. The logistics of it are impressive.
