RUMOR--The Bills called the Falcons about Julio Jones?

Recommended Posts

Anyone else hear this?

The morning show on WGR said there is a new "hot rumor" that the Bills have called the Falcons about Julio Jones.

Apparently Julio has taken down all Falcons related stuff from his social media and is unhappy about not having a new deal

Beane:  Thomas, how you doing?

Dimitroff:  Brandon, doing great.  You surviving the 9 months of winter?

Beane:  Yeah buddy, its different than Carolina...Heard Julio was dissatisfied with his deal.  We'd be more than happy to take him off your hands.

Dimitroff:  This year's 22 and next years #1?

Beane:  Jeez, I think I'll call Gettleman about OBJ again...

Dimitroff:  Julio's don't grow on trees.

It was debunked immediately. It was from IC Bob or someone like that. He said that the Bills were offering a 2019 1st.

Just because the draft is over does not mean it still can’t happen. Bills trade first and 3rd in 2019

for him. Also Beane hinted in his Interview on WGR

about adding a WR. Plus the falcons took a WR Ridley of Alabama with their first round pick this year. Just start adding up all the stuff. Why would a team that has plenty of good Wide Receivers draft one in the first round.  Maybe they don’t want to pay him and make him the highest paid WR In football. Then there is this article about the Falcons not being happy about their Receivers.

Why doesn’t it make sense? Teams don’t trade top 2 receivers when they are a playoff team. The Falcons are 15 months removes from a 25 point Super Bowl lead. Established superstars don’t get dealt. They especially don’t get traded from good teams. This rumor is absurd and should be treated as such.

Yeah it has, mainly because the original source is incarcerated bob. Therefore, it never had any real merit to begin with.

The original source was Incarcerated Bob and the guy that "debunked" it is Benjamin Allbright; neither of which are super reliable.

That was a totally different situation. Chip Kelly wanted his guys and his guys only. These guys traded up to draft Julio and then gave him a giant extension. It is apples and oranges.

I get that there's almost no chance of this happening, for a variety of reasons, but I can't help but get a little excited at the thought of Julio Jones tracking down bombs from Josh Allen.

Ugh..

Let me try this again....

WGR said nothing about this rumor being debunked on the show this morning when they brought it up.

They called it a "hot new rumor"

If I had known this was debunked already, I wouldn't have created this thread.

Sorry

Your words were established stars dont get traded, I said we traded for Shady. Now you throw in different variables around a broad statement.

Moreover, you can throw in whatever various reasons why but guys like

Dickerson

Bettis

Faulk

Montana

Portis/Bailey

All pretty big names to be traded

I could see this happening.

From the Bills perspective:

I am sure McD and Beane worship Jones having had to play him for years and the formula with young QB's is give them stud veteran WR's to elevate their play.     The WR in the draft next year should be better than this past class but there isn't a freak on the list that is a lock to be great.    FA WR will be slim pickings.    And what WR is going to choose playing in Buffalo if they can avoid it?   Makes a ton of sense for Bills.

Falcons perspective:

They are kinda' cap tight and just drafted a WR in round 1 to an already deep core.........Dimitroff is from the Belichick tree and this would be a very BB move..........Matt Ryan was less productive than Tyrod Taylor last year despite a 1400 yard receiver in Jones,  so maybe they figure having a cast of WR's that won't get upset if they don't get 10 targets per game is a better fit for Ryan.    And lastly Julio is 29 and has had injury issues.......perhaps they feel he's on the decline and want to get high value before the bigger dropoff.

The first Bills pick next year is going to be among the top two picks in the draft at either Tackle or WR.

I wouldn't do it and I would stay the course.

I would trust the thing they say we are doing, but which name escapes me right now.

EDIT:  Oh, oh, oh...miscommunication I mean the top 2 at those positions (maybe 10-13?).  I'm sorry if I wrote it to mean top two picks in the entire draft.

Yes they do....

Bills have 18.8 mil. in cap space, that comes down some after rookie contracts, I believe. Jones cap hit is lower than I realized at 12.9 mil.

So you're right, they probably could squeeze his 2018 salary in. But would be near barren to sign other players to replace injuries if needed.

Why not?

Because the faceless talking heads at WGR, exceptTasker, are as clueless as anyone in here commenting on the NFL.

.....especially "beat reporters" Sal Cappacio and Paul Hamilton.

I see in this thread that people continue to say the Bills will be terrible in 2018.

I heard the same unsubstantiated crap last year.

The Bills made the playoffs with a more flawed roster last year and STILL got the QB they wanted since McDermott took over in this draft.

I am not guaranteeing anything, but to just say the Bills will be bad in 2018 is a lie as of now.

19M in space this year as of now.

I have heard Bills are going to explore possible trade options for a WR after the draft.  One team I did hear that they would look at is Denver with Denver taking multiple WRs in the draft.

Forget everything thing.

Do you really want to give up a high draft choice for a 29 year old WR that has been banged up a lot recently?

If the Falcons wanna move on from Jones, the Bills would be better off waiting out the process and get him on the cheap (compensation wise).

If Allen is jaw-dropping from the start, it might completely change the narrative, but as of now, the Bills should wait it out.

I’d take him for a 3rd.  He’s a great player but is always dinged up and disappears for games at a time.  If we trade more for him, I’d still be excited.....I mean we landed Julio Jones, but I’d rather go for a younger less banged up WR.

I agree, this is more than just a rumor, but anything more than a third is way overpriced.

I love that.  I love that.  I'll go with you.

I don't know how anyone looks at this D, which I believe is better than it was on January 7th, and think this is a 4-12, 5-11 team.

I wouldn't be giving up picks right now. It's not a good time for that. I wouldn't want to be in pick debt. Beane popped his ammo. I know a WR would help but nothing is established so I roll with scrubs and set the system in place.

Id give up a 2nd and a 4th. Our 1st round pick is gonna be top 10 next year and we need a top end ER.

A 2nd a 4th and a player on our roster. If we add Julio Jones to this roster we would be scary.

While our D has taken a step forward, we lost Ritchie, Wood, TT and Thompson.  4 big contributors last year.  I like teller, but he’s no ritchie yet.  Bodine isn’t as good as Wood.  People can hate on TT all they want but I doubt AJ mccarron led last year’s team to the playoffs.  Another downgrade.  Thompson was invaluable last year and made plays that directly led to us making the playoffs.    The reason people believe this team could win 4-5 games is because of the offense.  Not saying I agree with 4-5 wins, but I see why people would think so.  The OL and WRs could bring the entire team down.  Imagine if Dawkins and KB go down with injury?  We’d have zero good WRs and zero good OLmen. We’ll fill those holes in 2019, but that may be too late to save our offense in 2018 unless Daboll is the truth and Allen is readier than expected

how can our defense not be better... we lost BRown and Gaines and acquired Edmunds, Davis, Phillips  and we need better years from Lawson and Hughes
