My thoughts exactly. He was just god awful. At one point his exact quote "Tyrod is most dangerous when he drops back" ..what????

Mowins was at least competent, not great, not awful..Feely was terrible

I mentioned it above but the camera crew was bad as well. And the graphic tags of Landry were bad when there was one tag roughly aligned over 3 WRs in the bunch formation. And the time they tagged all 5 WRs as Landry was worse. She was working with the Keystone Cops of CBS. Even with all that, who cares? The announcers just escort you through the game. Occasionally one of them is so good that I enjoy it. Rarely do they make any difference in my level of enjoyment.

People are here to complain because she was a woman. Plain and simple.

Was she great? No. Was she adequate. Of course.

Well, they BOTH made my ears bleed. Does that make it ok? Shesh you all thinking people attack other women because she is a woman, men are attacking her because she sounds like an ex-wife, yada, yada. How about they BOTH SUCKED!?  Not everything is policial, sexist, misandrist, misogynist, racist, or whatever other -ist or -ism you want to attach to a subject. Sometimes, black, white, pink or green, male, female or other - someone(s) simply does not do a good job.  Period.

I actually thought Jay Freely was worse, but so many mistakes by Beth Mowins. So, so, SO many mistakes. The announcers get worse and worse every year it seems.

Where is the 15 page thread dedicated to Jay Feely? Who kept referring to a Bills zone blocking scheme that the Bills haven't run in the last 6 weeks.

People are on her because she's a woman. Announcers screw up all the time. Hers were about par for the course for the C level announcers, which is exactly what she and her team were.

You are completely wrong.  YOU'RE in this thread because "she's a woman".  Sorry that the fact that people had a problem with the announcing bothers you.

I'll say it again: her knowledge was fine. Her pitch and tone was annoying.

There's nothing sexist about it, it just IS.

i didn't realize people care so much about who the announcers are. most of them don't add much to the game. Beth was fine.

Along with threads informing members who the officiating crew is there are also typically threads about who the announcers will be for each game.  Pretty much every week for years.

i'm not referring to the thread title, but rather the heated debate within the thread.

Again, there are frequently threads about the announcers.  People do care, there is a search function and there is a feature that allows you to go back and look at older threads.

Even though you used a very compelling combination of bold and caps, I don't agree that she made so, so, so many mistakes. She accidentally called Taylor McCoy once or twice. That was the only thing I caught. Announcers do things like that all the time. Happens in almost every single game.

I was watching the CBS post game, and Bill Cowher made the same mistake (accidentally calling the quarterback the receivers' name) while doing the recap of a game. Can't remember who followed Cowher (Boomer or someone), but they totally missed their queue and botched the whole highlight clip. Instead of getting things back on track, everyone in the studio started yelling at once incoherently for about 10 seconds.

My point is that it happens all the time to most announcers. I thought Mowins was exceptionally knowledgeable about the Bills and really did a good job talking about aspects of the team that most announcers don't care enough about to do their homework on.

I laughed my ass off when he said that. I was thinking, "Yeah, and Shady is most dangerous when he has the ball."

I'd hate to imagine what giving the microphone to someone like us for 3 hours would end up as.  Only PTR has the ability, that I know of, to do this.

Ever see "Drunk History"? Picture that, but with fans announcing football.

The best way to assess Mowins' performance during CBS' coverage of the Buffalo Bills' 24-16 victory over the Miami Dolphins Sunday is to use the same criteria as assessing the men who have worked Bills game.

That means assessing her voice, her knowledge, her ability to quickly identify players, her excitement level and her ability to ask her analyst, former NFL kicker Jay Feely, the right questions that elicit interesting comments.

Overall, she earned more than a passing grade working her second CBS game this season and third regular NFL game overall. She also worked a Monday Night Football game opener alongside former Bills Coach Rex Ryan.

I don't love her voice. But I also don’t love Feely's voice.

Feely contradicted himself at times and didn't offer any more original thinking than Ryan did on his MNF game debut. Feely seemed obsessed with statistics to the point you wondered if he was auditioning for a job in analytics.

The bottom line is I'd be more willing to hear more from Mowins than Feely and would be especially interested if she worked another game and was given a stronger partner than Feely or Ryan.

As long as it's not a Bills game I'm more than fine with her doing more games.

It was nothing remarkable, but in my opinion she demonstrated good knowledge of things that have happened with the team this year with the trades and the front office, the ups and downs with Taylor, how good Tre White has been... things of that nature. Again, not insight that I was blown away with, but I've certainly listened to many Bills games where I was positive the play by play and/or color guy hadn't watched a game all year, hadn't bothered to read whatever memo they're handed the week before the game, and offered just completely wrong takes on various things about the Bills. I didn't get that from Mowins' commentary.

I will say, as some others have mentioned, she does have a little bit of that Marv/Kenny Albert type inflection which I don't really care for. To me, she's not as annoying as those two, but I see where folks are coming from in terms of personal annunciation taste.

Let's split this idea.  We can make this happen. First up as announcers are rex and Rob. Let's get them drunk and call a game

Apart from calling Taylor McCoy a few times I thought she did a good job. That said, I was disappointed we didn't get any comedy segments from Sergio Dipp.

I agree........at least they weren't sucking up to one team. They called all the miss calls which I thought was great as announcers.

Even better - a double-blind experiment. Get one of them drunk. Then the fans get to guess which one it is.

I've posted my ugly mug a bunch. Heck, I've had it posted a few times by others.  I have no shame. Neither should she, she's in the public eye and I'm just a maroon.

Btw. I have a video of just jack standing there with the Miss America filter on Snapchat. And a other of him as a monkey. One day, they'll be posted.

For me, Greg Gumble asking with 15 seconds before the two minute warning if the team doesn't get out of bounds should they use a timeout (their last for good measure) is so much worse than missing on a name or two a few times.

Missing names is a communication issue with her spotter that gets resolved with team building. Gumble asking that earlier in the season shows a complete lack of knowledge of strategy and understanding of the sport he is announcing. Where was the 9 page in a day thread slamming Gumble?

Also, Romo gets things wrong all the time, and it's part of the charm (obviously not strategy stuff). Again, as I mentioned earlier, I think people have a problem with her not because she is a woman per se, but because the way she does it is in a stereotypically male way, and it rubs people biases the wrong way. Romo does it in an aw shucks dude next door way that is endearing, Julie Foudie does it in a much more sterotypically feminie way, but Mowins sounds stereotypically male, and that is messing with people's heads...that isn't a her issue though, stop being a sheep that is triggered into a predefined response by the queen of hearts, and think for yourselves.

Some good advice for you to take. ;)

Some of us had issues w/ Mowins AND Feeley.  They both were bad & considering that 1 team was in a playoff spot & the other was a mere single game back (& a team that typically gets lots of night games) 'twas surprising that CBS chose such an underwhelming announcing team.

"Politically correct" is so overused. It's really just a matter of respecting other people. The phrase itself was coined by bigots who complained that they weren't allowed to hate [insert hated group] because it's not politically correct.

You're allowed to hate anyone you want. Likewise, others are allowed to call you out on it if you're exhibiting bigotry.

It's not sexist (or "politically incorrect," if you prefer) to criticize her performance.

It IS sexist to say that a woman shouldn't be announcing a football game. It's sexist BY DEFINITION.

There's been some of both in this thread.

Feely wasn't great. He repeats himself a lot and seemed to pick really mundane plays/moments in the game to highlight as crucial or important.

Mowins is OK. I'm not a huge fan of her voice but she does a good job. She might work better with a different commentator than Feely.

Next week is Nantz and Romo. I quickly grew tired of those two. Nantz used to be tolerable when he had Phil Seems next to him but I suppose anyone sounds good next to Seems. And how he ended up with the main anchor job in the studio is beyond me. Dude constantly trailed off mid-sentence, said incoherent things, said "talked about" 52 times a game, etc. And as for Romo, I got a kick out of his first few games when he was sitting there calling out what the plays were gonna be. His insight as a former QB is fantastic but he gets a little annoying when he tries too hard to make something sound exciting.

I dig Gus Johnson the most, probably. But he's been on Fox since 2011 and Buffalo plays on Fox only once or twice a year.

But it's NOT sexist to find her voice grating.

To insist otherwise is patently ridiculous. My position's been her knowledge was as good as any other bad announcer, but her voice annoyed me.

It's funny how the people complaining about how many pages this thread is are the same people that made this thread as long as it is.  Extremely ironic.  If Mowin was a man this would have been a 3 page thread at best.  Again, ironic.  To all of you snowflakes, criticism of one's performance is not protected by gender or race, in fact, it's that criticism that makes us all equal.

To all of the "men" in this thread defending a poor performance simply because the announcer is a female, go take out the trash...and look for your man balls while you are at it.  No one has had a problem with other females criticizing Mowin's performance.  Enough already, Mowin has an annoying voice, many of us agreed.  Now, the PC police are telling us that we are wrong for not liking her voice because "she's a female".  Give me a break!

I agree. I find some voices annoying as hell, and that's not dependent on the speaker's gender. I didn't find hers all that bad, but to each his own.

I also cringe at certain announcers' pronunciations, like Wilcots (Buffalo Beals), Gannon (Owfense), and Gruden (Nickle Roby).
