What the guy says does not make sense. According to this guy Marrone was concerned about a football czar - in other words, Bill Polian. This is the same Bill Polian who had been quoted saying that Marrone had done a good job. This is the same Bill Polian with whom Marrone felt comfortable enough calling to trash the organization etc.

"Obviously," this guy would love Marrone to get a job with the Jets so that he can get a job with that staff.

Is this surprising? Isn't the ST coach (Crossman) one of Marrone's buddies? Stands to reason Crossman knows he is likely on the way out and his assistants are trying to cozy up to Saint Doug.

if Schwartz is named HC i wonder if he retains Crossman - didn't he fire him in Detroit? Will look it up later.

Another nonsensical statement in the article. The guy says that Marrone fired Cusillo for not treating people well. This is the same Saint Doug whom we all know from stories we have heard/read who treats people rather sh%#y.

after his historically bad season in detroit, we were lucky enough to be granted permission to interview him instead of detroit having to fire him.

theres no way he could have gone back there though. all the return tds allowed, the kick returner kneeling at the 4, the personal fouls, the mixups with their signals (the returners signal for blockers to be careful was too close to the fair catch signal and cost them wide open punt returns).....

Cusillo, just like this guy, need to be weighed for what they are - one has reason to be very upset, the other reason to be very loyal. truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

It is entirely likely that Marrone saw that Brandon's influence on the organization was going to go down drastically. So the same guy who influenced his hire and was probably being his fairy godmother within the Bills organization was on his way to being neutered. Which only meant the guy in charge would be the one guy Marrone had a rift with - Whaley. Marrone bailed before that could happen.

This. NFL coaching is too incestuous to burn any bridges if you are still trying to make it in the league.

Yup. One of the main things I've noticed throughout this debacle is the unwillingness of any ex-coach/GM to publicly criticize Marrone.

Manish Mehta was on Michael Kay's ESPN radio show a couple of days back and the divide among opinions was clearly media vs. ex-personnel men/coaches. Now Manish has been vehemently against Doug since day 1, but Kay's counter arguments rested upon "well Bill Polian and Charley Casserly love the guy."

We've always known the NFL is a big old fraternity, this process has just brought it more to light for a peon like myself.

To each his own. At least John Anselmo cares more about Marrone than Marrone cared about leaving his assistants in limbo. What type of individual abandons ship with a mere text and leaves people in a jam like that?

Marrone didn't opt out until 12/31. The players were long gone. What was he supposed to do? Call a team meeting and have everyone come back to Buffalo from the 4 corners? Think!

Ever hear of conference calls, Doug?
