  1. Is this Plan B if we don't trade for DHop? How are we going to pay for guys like this? They may settle for less than what they've been making, but Beane said we only had $9 million left and he doesn't want to mortgage the future. Campbell and DHop still have something left in the tank. I guess I'll just wait and see.
  2. If DHop agrees to a price we can afford, I'd a scenario similar to this: 1. Dawand Jones, 2. Best MLB available, 3. Edge, etc.
  3. I've changed my mind about this signing after doing a little research. He only played in 4 games last year, so that's a big red flag. He's pretty average, but maybe a tick above and as an above average G, he'd be the best G on our roster by a long shot. Add a big road grader at RT in round 1 and if Brown develops, move him inside. All of a sudden, our OL looks 100% better. I'm not saying any of this is guaranteed, but if it does and we get a decent ILB in round 2, I'll be happy. It also looks like the DHop talk is serious, if unlikely. A fella can dream, can't he? I don't know how we pay DHop, but the ceiling is high. The floor, however, is still too low. We need things to go our way.
  4. 4 hours ago, HappyDays said: I think if we trade for DeAndre Hopkins, Jack Campbell becomes the favorite for our 1st round pick. His fit with us makes too much sense. No one should complain if that happens. We'll have spent the entire free agency period up to that point upgrading the offense. We've signed zero defensive players. ___________________ Sorry, but no. We haven't upgraded the offense or the defense for that matter. We've added depth players other than Poyer and Harris, but Poyer was already with us and Harris is no better than Singletary. So even with those 2 signings, it's a wash. With the possible exception of Harty, the rest are castoffs, backups. Beane has missed on too many high (Day 1 & 2) picks and now we're paying for it -- Basham, Brown, Ford, Oliver, Cook, Bernard, Epenesa, Moss, Singletary, Harrison Phillips. All of these guys are bad, underperforming or no longer on the roster. Cook has a chance to be good, but only in a limited role. Brown has yet to develop, if he ever will. Beane can't possibly fix that in 1 draft weekend. That bill has come due and restructuring more contracts just adds to future salary cap problems. It will take another offseason or 2 to fix this and that assumes that Beane gets red hot and makes all the right moves.
  5. Another backup OL? We have more backup OL than any other team, including the ones we give starting jobs to. I guess with our salary cap situation and the other holes on our roster, we'll have to wait until at least 2024 to get this OL up to speed. I think having a former DC as HC has given OBD the attitude that you can win a SB with a bad OL if your QB is good at running for his life. I just wonder how much better Josh would look if we had a good OL and run game. I just think this 'not the very worst is good enough' attitude is going to hold us back.
  6. They even sell them here in Manila, but some horrible people call them New York Style and their restaurant walls are replete with pictures of NYC landmarks. Back in the suburbs of Dallas, they opened a new Duffs a few years back, so I go there once in a while.
  7. We brought in warm bodies. Harris isn't better than Singletary, just different. He's a better fit, but I don't see him having any more impact than Singletary did. The rest of the guys we signed, I honestly hope don't see the field much because they just aren't good. I assume Sherfield and Hasty will be big on ST though. I am truly disappointed that McGovern is eating up over $7 million of our cap space, thus preventing any upgrades from being brought in. To me, the only impactful FA signing other than McGovern's negative impact is bringing Poyer back. I hope we can sign at least an average ILB so we aren't tempted to waste a 1st round pick on a LB. A big upgrade and preferably 2 or 3 on the OL would have a huge impact on Josh and the entire offense. Obviously, several upgrades on the OL is extremely unlikely, so I worry that the team could slip backwards in 2023.
  8. I always liked Singletary. I hope he fares well and stays healthy.
  9. In terms of overall quality, Harris and Singletary are pretty even. Singletary has better tackle shedding ability, change of direction and vision. Harris is both bigger and faster. It would seem that Harris is a better fit, but I do worry about the run game still because of a weak OL.
  10. 2 hours ago, GunnerBill said: So am I but I still don't think we have seen Spencer Brown's best football. It is ahead of him IMO. I am not against an OT at #27, and if that guy beats out Brown, so be it. But I wouldn't just throw Brown to the curb yet. There is still talent in there. I'd love to see us get a big upgrade at RT as well, but you're right about Brown's potential. I see that he's struggling with "foot quickness" so wouldn't it make sense to move him inside where his biggest flaw is mitigated? He might just make one heck of a G and a rookie RT comes much more affordable than a 26 year old probowler. Just wondering also if his height might actually be an issue at G, but they had Doyle taking snaps at G last year, so I guess it could work.
  11. I don't get why people are so afraid to admit it. Brown is an amazing athlete with just one major flaw - He can't block. I would be ecstatic if we drafted Dawand Jones, assuming that he has a solid work ethic. This kid just buries DE's. If Brown suddenly comes to life, great. Someone at OT slides over to G and our entire OL starts looking a lot better. Beane has not been terrible at drafting lately, but our overall roster quality has suffered as some high picks have not matched expectations while the Dolphins and Jets, in particular, have fared much better recently. Beane really needs to nail this draft or we could slide backwards a bit in 2023. Our OT, G, MLB, WR, S and TE groups need a major facelift -- We could really use better starters at those first 4 positions and depth at S and TE. I'm not sure what we're going to do at DT. Asking any GM to nail 4 quality starters in a single draft with just the usual draft capital is asking for a miracle. The Jets had the OROY and DROY last year, but that won't happen again any time soon for them. We need help and there's little money in the till. Beane is right to say he can't keep renegotiating contracts because that bill will come due in the future. He created this situation. Let's see if he can recover. I sure hope so.
  12. I like Jones a lot, but I doubt they exercise Oliver's 5th year option, so I suspect they'll be looking for a 3-Tech in the draft. Unfortunately, our OL is a mess and we need help at WR. There's also a big hole in the middle of this defense. All of these shortcomings outweigh the immediate need for a DT. Maybe we draft DT and DE on day 3 this year. What we do in 2024 besides wave goodbye to Oliver when some team overpays him is anyone's guess.
  13. If we can land a solid WR in FA, I'd like that, but I'm hoping there's good OT value for our 1st pick and ILB value for tye 2nd.
  14. Like the majority of our OL, solid depth guy.
  15. 9 minutes ago, John from Riverside said: This guy sucks That guy sucks We’re gonna suck Everybody should be fired Am I doing this right? Cover one was talking about him before free agency even started they did a thing on him So what would you have us about guys that suck? And yes. Harris is above average and bringing Poyer back was great. See how this works? Those guys don't suck so we don't say that they do. The rest of the guys we've signed suck, so we say that they do. Pretty straight forward.
  16. He's even worse than the Guards we have now. Maybe if he can get healthy???
  17. I'm OK with this. I hope we have our first 1,000 yard Rusher in years. I know Josh will still run a lot because the OL is so bad, but I still hope he dors not run nearly as much. Too much risk of injury and too many fumbles.
  18. Isaiah Wynn and the other, better Conner McGovern are both still available and would be upgrades, if just average. But that's all it takes to be an upgrade on our OL. Just be average. I don't see any other OL left in FA that I'd want to take up a roster spot or cap space. Unfortunately, we're stuck with the lesser McGovern for a while unless we were smart enough to give an easy out before his contract runs out. He's totally incompetent as a run blocker.
  19. Brandon Shell is terrible! Just the kind of OL Beane covets. It's a lock. Seriously, we need to raise the bar here. If all we do to repair this OL is sign Shell and McGovern and then wait until day 3 to address the OL, I will assume that the folks at OBD aren't capable of taking this team to the SB much less win it. Blocking matters.
  20. We could conceivably be the 3rd to 7th best team in the AFC in 2023 depending on how well Beane drafts. His draft weekend misses are starting to catch up with him. This draft is crucial.
  21. If WR and OT are the deepest positions that bodes well for us. I'd say that signing an average MLB in FA would be our smartest move and select best available in the top 2 rounds. If there's a run on OT's or WR's, you go there first. Great post Virgil. Good info. Let's be honest. This is not a very strong roster overall. We have some very good players, but then the talent level drops way off.
  22. 1 hour ago, nosejob said: Cook/Hines (sp?) drew a blank, and a big bruising back at the end of the draft. They have Gilliam and for the number of runs per game, why shell out any more money to a FA? Or for that matter, why shell out money for a RB when your OL is so bad? Spend the money or high draft picks on the OL first and then worry about RB's. We really do need to run more anyway and we need our WR group upgraded. We have a big hole at MLB too. I'd prefer to focus on the OL 1st and maybe draft a LB and WR on day 2. This is a very deep draft for RB's, so get 1 on day 3. I suspect Bean is just going to resign our own from here on in. Poyer has been the only significant signing so far and I think that's it.
