In terms of overall quality, Harris and Singletary are pretty even. Singletary has better tackle shedding ability, change of direction and vision. Harris is both bigger and faster. It would seem that Harris is a better fit, but I do worry about the run game still because of a weak OL.

2 hours ago, GunnerBill said: So am I but I still don't think we have seen Spencer Brown's best football. It is ahead of him IMO. I am not against an OT at #27, and if that guy beats out Brown, so be it. But I wouldn't just throw Brown to the curb yet. There is still talent in there. I'd love to see us get a big upgrade at RT as well, but you're right about Brown's potential. I see that he's struggling with "foot quickness" so wouldn't it make sense to move him inside where his biggest flaw is mitigated? He might just make one heck of a G and a rookie RT comes much more affordable than a 26 year old probowler. Just wondering also if his height might actually be an issue at G, but they had Doyle taking snaps at G last year, so I guess it could work.

I don't get why people are so afraid to admit it. Brown is an amazing athlete with just one major flaw - He can't block. I would be ecstatic if we drafted Dawand Jones, assuming that he has a solid work ethic. This kid just buries DE's. If Brown suddenly comes to life, great. Someone at OT slides over to G and our entire OL starts looking a lot better. Beane has not been terrible at drafting lately, but our overall roster quality has suffered as some high picks have not matched expectations while the Dolphins and Jets, in particular, have fared much better recently. Beane really needs to nail this draft or we could slide backwards a bit in 2023. Our OT, G, MLB, WR, S and TE groups need a major facelift -- We could really use better starters at those first 4 positions and depth at S and TE. I'm not sure what we're going to do at DT. Asking any GM to nail 4 quality starters in a single draft with just the usual draft capital is asking for a miracle. The Jets had the OROY and DROY last year, but that won't happen again any time soon for them. We need help and there's little money in the till. Beane is right to say he can't keep renegotiating contracts because that bill will come due in the future. He created this situation. Let's see if he can recover. I sure hope so.

I like Jones a lot, but I doubt they exercise Oliver's 5th year option, so I suspect they'll be looking for a 3-Tech in the draft. Unfortunately, our OL is a mess and we need help at WR. There's also a big hole in the middle of this defense. All of these shortcomings outweigh the immediate need for a DT. Maybe we draft DT and DE on day 3 this year. What we do in 2024 besides wave goodbye to Oliver when some team overpays him is anyone's guess.

If we can land a solid WR in FA, I'd like that, but I'm hoping there's good OT value for our 1st pick and ILB value for tye 2nd.

Like the majority of our OL, solid depth guy.

Bills hosting/hosted David Edwards on visit

9 minutes ago, John from Riverside said: This guy sucks That guy sucks We’re gonna suck Everybody should be fired Am I doing this right? Cover one was talking about him before free agency even started they did a thing on him So what would you have us about guys that suck? And yes. Harris is above average and bringing Poyer back was great. See how this works? Those guys don't suck so we don't say that they do. The rest of the guys we've signed suck, so we say that they do. Pretty straight forward. -

He's even worse than the Guards we have now. Maybe if he can get healthy??? -
I'm OK with this. I hope we have our first 1,000 yard Rusher in years. I know Josh will still run a lot because the OL is so bad, but I still hope he dors not run nearly as much. Too much risk of injury and too many fumbles.

Connor McGovern
-
Zzzzzzzzzz...
-
Isaiah Wynn and the other, better Conner McGovern are both still available and would be upgrades, if just average. But that's all it takes to be an upgrade on our OL. Just be average. I don't see any other OL left in FA that I'd want to take up a roster spot or cap space. Unfortunately, we're stuck with the lesser McGovern for a while unless we were smart enough to give an easy out before his contract runs out. He's totally incompetent as a run blocker.
-
Brandon Shell is terrible! Just the kind of OL Beane covets. It's a lock. Seriously, we need to raise the bar here. If all we do to repair this OL is sign Shell and McGovern and then wait until day 3 to address the OL, I will assume that the folks at OBD aren't capable of taking this team to the SB much less win it. Blocking matters.

The Cincy game & its affect on how we view the team
GreggTX replied to Success's topic in The Stadium Wall
We could conceivably be the 3rd to 7th best team in the AFC in 2023 depending on how well Beane drafts. His draft weekend misses are starting to catch up with him. This draft is crucial. -
If WR and OT are the deepest positions that bodes well for us. I'd say that signing an average MLB in FA would be our smartest move and select best available in the top 2 rounds. If there's a run on OT's or WR's, you go there first. Great post Virgil. Good info. Let's be honest. This is not a very strong roster overall. We have some very good players, but then the talent level drops way off.

1 hour ago, nosejob said: Cook/Hines (sp?) drew a blank, and a big bruising back at the end of the draft. They have Gilliam and for the number of runs per game, why shell out any more money to a FA? Or for that matter, why shell out money for a RB when your OL is so bad? Spend the money or high draft picks on the OL first and then worry about RB's. We really do need to run more anyway and we need our WR group upgraded. We have a big hole at MLB too. I'd prefer to focus on the OL 1st and maybe draft a LB and WR on day 2. This is a very deep draft for RB's, so get 1 on day 3. I suspect Bean is just going to resign our own from here on in. Poyer has been the only significant signing so far and I think that's it.

Long list of Bills free agents -- who will they keep?
GreggTX replied to BillsDad51's topic in The Stadium Wall
I thought Crowder played reasonably well for the Jets and for us before he got hurt. Harty certainly isn't much of a receiver. His real value will be returning punts which he does well. Since we need help at both WR2 and the slot, resigning Crowder makes sense if he's healthy. I wouldn't mind having Singletary back since a better RB would be out of our price range. I like Phillips too, but he's always hurt. Shaq is OK as a backup and knows the system. Marlowe fills a need as depth at S. Klein and Quessenberry are solid depth. Kumerow is good on ST. That gives us 2 WR's, Kumerow and Harty, that you don't really want taking offensive snaps if possible, but are very good on ST. -
Isaac Seumalo, G, **Update - Signed by Steelers
GreggTX replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall
He's basically Connor McGovern with much better (average) run blocking ability. His pass blocking, like McGovern, is average too so he could play either side. I'm not sure what he's asking, but cost conscious team wouldn't pay him much more than $7 million/yr. Again, he's better than any G on our roster currently and would be a slight upgrade. We need a real beast on our OL. I still believe many if not most games are won in the trenches. -
I'd like a decent blocking TE and an average #2 that won't outrun, but a fair run blocker and good hands so you can throw to him once in a while to keep defenses honest.

Anyone up for adding an edge rusher before the draft?
GreggTX replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't expect or want a big $ solution unless it's an elite talent under age 27. I'm still hoping for a big upgrade on the OL in FA. Also, Devon Levi signs with the Sabres! Super excited to see him play. I don't know if he'll excel right away, but I think his future is very bright. He's exactly what we need. -
One less headache to worry about. He's not the best, but he's consistently good. Between him and Bass, our kicking game is solid.

Beane still looking to add big bodied RB to roster
GreggTX replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall
Jamal Williams or Leonard Fournette, but FA RB's aren't likely to view Buffalo as a preferred destination until we give our OL a face lift, so to speak. I pray McGovern, Bates and Brown show huge improvement this year. -
Average at best, but he'd be the best G on our roster and better than Spencer Brown by a pretty fair margin. If Brown finally lives up to his athletic abilities, he'd be a monster and I'd put Williams at G. He's a better pass protector than run blocker, but not by much. He could play on either side. Unfortunately, it sounds like he only wants to play LT and Dawkins is clearly better than him. He's not in a good position to be making demands as he could be fairly easily replaced.

2 hours ago, BuffaloBillsGospel2014 said: I'd love to be a a fly in the office hearing names , if I'm giving out names I'd contact the Minnesota Vikings and see if we can't work a Deal for RT Brian O'Neil, They're over the cap and after next season Darrisaw will be commanding a huge contract. The Vikings are sellers right now and I think we can swing something, he's 27 and signed until 2026. He's had maybe sackwise his worst season with 6 sacks but with statue Cousins back there I'm not holding it aginst him but he has excellent blocking grades. I'd be ecstatic if we landed O'Neil! Let Brown be a swing tackle or move inside and compete for a starting job. That would really send a positive message to the locker room -- especially to Josh.

A MAJOR upgrade on the OL. We were a bottom 5 unit last year. That just not gonna get us a Lombardi Trophy. Signing McGovern doesn't significantly change that ranking. We need to do MUCH more either in FA or the draft. If we don't pick OL in round 1, I'm writing off any realistic chance to leapfrog KC and Cincinnati. In fact, we may drop below 3rd best team in the AFC. If that happens, it will have a very negative affect on this team's morale in the future. That pummeling by the Bengals already took its toll on how this team is perceived.
