  1. Isaiah Wynn and the other, better Conner McGovern are both still available and would be upgrades, if just average. But that's all it takes to be an upgrade on our OL. Just be average. I don't see any other OL left in FA that I'd want to take up a roster spot or cap space. Unfortunately, we're stuck with the lesser McGovern for a while unless we were smart enough to give an easy out before his contract runs out. He's totally incompetent as a run blocker.
  2. Brandon Shell is terrible! Just the kind of OL Beane covets. It's a lock. Seriously, we need to raise the bar here. If all we do to repair this OL is sign Shell and McGovern and then wait until day 3 to address the OL, I will assume that the folks at OBD aren't capable of taking this team to the SB much less win it. Blocking matters.
  3. We could conceivably be the 3rd to 7th best team in the AFC in 2023 depending on how well Beane drafts. His draft weekend misses are starting to catch up with him. This draft is crucial.
  4. If WR and OT are the deepest positions that bodes well for us. I'd say that signing an average MLB in FA would be our smartest move and select best available in the top 2 rounds. If there's a run on OT's or WR's, you go there first. Great post Virgil. Good info. Let's be honest. This is not a very strong roster overall. We have some very good players, but then the talent level drops way off.
  5. 1 hour ago, nosejob said: Cook/Hines (sp?) drew a blank, and a big bruising back at the end of the draft. They have Gilliam and for the number of runs per game, why shell out any more money to a FA? Or for that matter, why shell out money for a RB when your OL is so bad? Spend the money or high draft picks on the OL first and then worry about RB's. We really do need to run more anyway and we need our WR group upgraded. We have a big hole at MLB too. I'd prefer to focus on the OL 1st and maybe draft a LB and WR on day 2. This is a very deep draft for RB's, so get 1 on day 3. I suspect Bean is just going to resign our own from here on in. Poyer has been the only significant signing so far and I think that's it.
  6. I thought Crowder played reasonably well for the Jets and for us before he got hurt. Harty certainly isn't much of a receiver. His real value will be returning punts which he does well. Since we need help at both WR2 and the slot, resigning Crowder makes sense if he's healthy. I wouldn't mind having Singletary back since a better RB would be out of our price range. I like Phillips too, but he's always hurt. Shaq is OK as a backup and knows the system. Marlowe fills a need as depth at S. Klein and Quessenberry are solid depth. Kumerow is good on ST. That gives us 2 WR's, Kumerow and Harty, that you don't really want taking offensive snaps if possible, but are very good on ST.
  7. He's basically Connor McGovern with much better (average) run blocking ability. His pass blocking, like McGovern, is average too so he could play either side. I'm not sure what he's asking, but cost conscious team wouldn't pay him much more than $7 million/yr. Again, he's better than any G on our roster currently and would be a slight upgrade. We need a real beast on our OL. I still believe many if not most games are won in the trenches.
  8. I'd like a decent blocking TE and an average #2 that won't outrun, but a fair run blocker and good hands so you can throw to him once in a while to keep defenses honest.
  9. I don't expect or want a big $ solution unless it's an elite talent under age 27. I'm still hoping for a big upgrade on the OL in FA. Also, Devon Levi signs with the Sabres! Super excited to see him play. I don't know if he'll excel right away, but I think his future is very bright. He's exactly what we need.
  10. One less headache to worry about. He's not the best, but he's consistently good. Between him and Bass, our kicking game is solid.
  11. Jamal Williams or Leonard Fournette, but FA RB's aren't likely to view Buffalo as a preferred destination until we give our OL a face lift, so to speak. I pray McGovern, Bates and Brown show huge improvement this year.
  12. Average at best, but he'd be the best G on our roster and better than Spencer Brown by a pretty fair margin. If Brown finally lives up to his athletic abilities, he'd be a monster and I'd put Williams at G. He's a better pass protector than run blocker, but not by much. He could play on either side. Unfortunately, it sounds like he only wants to play LT and Dawkins is clearly better than him. He's not in a good position to be making demands as he could be fairly easily replaced.

The Vikings are sellers right now and I think we can swing something, he's 27 and signed until 2026. He's had maybe sackwise his worst season with 6 sacks but with statue Cousins back there I'm not holding it aginst him but he has excellent blocking grades. I'd be ecstatic if we landed O'Neil! Let Brown be a swing tackle or move inside and compete for a starting job. That would really send a positive message to the locker room -- especially to Josh.
  14. A MAJOR upgrade on the OL. We were a bottom 5 unit last year. That just not gonna get us a Lombardi Trophy. Signing McGovern doesn't significantly change that ranking. We need to do MUCH more either in FA or the draft. If we don't pick OL in round 1, I'm writing off any realistic chance to leapfrog KC and Cincinnati. In fact, we may drop below 3rd best team in the AFC. If that happens, it will have a very negative affect on this team's morale in the future. That pummeling by the Bengals already took its toll on how this team is perceived.
  15. I agree that Motor is above average. He's very shifty, has good vision and balance, but his receiving skills and speed hold him back. If he could run a 4.4 and had bigger, softer hands, he'd be elite. I'd like either him, J Williams or B Robinson. The problem with our run game has long been the OL. McGovern is an average pass protector, but a very poor run blocker. I fear the rest of the OL will remain unchanged. If I were a FA RB, I don't think Buffalo would be a team I'd target in FA. I hope Cook improves in year 2, but he'll never be a workhorse type or a between the Tackles runner. I don't honestly see much of a role for Hines outside KR and I expect Hasty to win the PR job. I think that McDermott's relatively little experience working with offense as a former S and DC is the main reason that he and Beane continually sell the OL short of talent. Most other top teams have significantly better blocking and running, especially KC and Cincinnati. I think it's holding us back and placing too much pressure on Josh to carry the offense. This, in turn, has been one reason why he's turned the ball over so much.
  16. He's not very good. Sounds like the kind of player Beane is after this offseason. We'll pay him twice what he's worth and lock him up long term.
  17. I'd prefer a bigger workhorse RB, but I'd be OK with this. I'd also like OL in the 1st and 2nd. TE can wait.
  18. Looks like they're serious about winning a SB. They recognize the value of a good OL. We don't. We just shuffle in backups and say "good enough."
  19. Who's this "solid starter at G" you speak of? McGovern? Seriously? 3 hours ago, Allen2Moulds said: Unfortunately I can't say we've improved. We signed another meh guard, and now have a huge hole at MLB. I'm starting to lose a little bit of confidence with Beane in the draft. We are now faced with the following holes. Beane needs to hit the draft out of the park, or we will start to regress. Top draft needs 1. MLB 2. WR2, with WR1 upside to replace Diggs in a few years. 3. Interior lineman (upgrade G position with potential to replace Mitch in 2-3 years) 4. Safety (Hyde coming back from major injury, and Poyat battled injury all year. They are both getting up there in age) 5. DT to replace Oliver, as this is his last year as a Bill. Not expecting us to sign Wagner, but it would be a huge get. As it stands now, we go into the draft with a desperate need. Hard to stick with BPA. If we do go LB early, let's please go for a guy with elite instincts over elite athleticism. Upgrading the IOL and RT remains the biggest need by far.
  20. If I were a FA RB, I'd want to play for a team with a good OL. We do not have that.
  21. We've done nothing to improve one of the worst OL's in the NFL so far. Any quality OL would be huge at this point. We're desperate. 41 minutes ago, Buffalo Junction said: IIRC, Collins can also bump inside to guard if Brown beats him out at RT or if Morse gets injured and Bates needs to move to center. There's no way Brown could beat him out unless Collins gets injured or dies.
  22. Connor McGovern will have the most impact if, as I fear, he starts. Unfortunately, his impact won't be positive. He's also overpaid and taking up a roster spot. I'm still hoping we sign a quality OL and Harty can do a good job on punt returns so I voted for him.
  23. McGovern? Harty? Nope. Nothing to see here. There's still time, but there's precious little OL upgrade talent available and rookie OL might take years to develop. I'm getting anxious. Maybe Beane is going to have to trade to help the OL.
