Yea

AWESOME news... from scouts in on Piso:

Grade: 66 | Key

Alert: None

Comment: He plays with very good lateral quickness and can change directions quickly. He has speed to the sideline with burst to close. He lacks overall strength to play stout, but can be aggressive on entry into blocks. He will stay stuck too long at times and lose ground working to escape. He still enters into some lead block contact with his shoulder first. He has good balance, but will get bounced. He is quick enough to sidestep or elude contact on his path to the ball. He has range and can close quickly from the backside to make plays. He usually provides good wrap on tackles and has some pop to him when he squares up. In coverage, he has good awareness. He'll stay on the field when the Rams go to nickel personnel. He is aggressive with his reads and will bite occasionally on play-action. He moves well in space, changes direction quickly and can recover from false steps. His overall reactions are adequate. He can close quickly after making reads. He is a productive player with good speed and range, when healthy.

from scouts inc on Ellison:

Grade: 57 | Key

Alert: None

Comment: Ellison is an undersized athletic linebacker who is coming off his second season in the league. He is a backup who is used in sub packages and to give depth to a young linebacking corps. He is most productive when covered up and able to run free. He has good straight-line speed and shows effective range sideline to sideline. He can get engulfed when engaging lineman and is best when slipping blockers to get to the pile. He can play out of control at times and needs to come to balance better in space. He has improved his coverage techniques from his rookie season, but needs to read route progressions better in combination man and zone schemes. Ellison is a finesse player who can contribute when used in long-yardage situations and on special teams.

They've brought in several players who weren't signed. Keiaho, Winborn, and others. The knock on PT is he's not suited to play SAM, which is what Buffalo needs from a LB. Keiaho said Buffalo reverses the LB duties as opposed to a traditional T2, but it's anyone's guess how another sub 230 pound LB fits in today's NFL.

PT is 240#. I'd love this signing. Now if they could just get another stud DT...

Personally, I hope we sign him just so a bunch of people on this board will shut up already. I'm not thinking of anyone specifically, although I'm hoping Skooby will find a ding in here somewhere :-), but I never really thought that LB was a huge need for us. Sure, there was always the option for an upgrade, but the Tampa 2 usually runs with two LB's on the field, not 3 and I'm fine with Poz and Mitchell. Plus, in a perfect DJ world, we would use an extra safety on the field rather than another LB. Also, we drafted a guy who looks to be a good prospect in addition to Elimmian.

Either way, whatever

Any idea who "doggyy2080" is?

This is what he has to say in the comments section:

Bills D Coordinator coached this kid and most likely had a say in drafting him. Don't be surprised if he plays for Buffalo next year.

I'm assuming he's referring to when Fewell was the "secondary" coach with The Rams. Interesting point.

Pisa is a great lb in the league. He was a prized recruit for June Jones in college. Jones noted he was one of his best LBs hes ever coached. He had off field problems coming out of HS but hasnt had any since. He was a five star athlete in HS and was awesome in college. Defensive captain for the Rams and led team in tackles. Proven. By the way, one of the nicest people ive ever met off the field. Please Buffalo sign him!

I like the fact that the bills are looking to bring this guy in. My only hope is that this is not a jocking for position move by Pisa. I hope he is not trying to up his value to another team by using Buffalo's interest in him. While he would not be the last piece he would be a nice acquisition that would make this defense deeper and more complete.

I put the Bills needs on defense as DT, LB, and a backup DE for Schoble. Pisa fills one of those needs and there is nothing else available at the bills price to fill the other two needs so I think they should go after him.

BF'89--you really think we need another DE? Denney can flip, Spencer Johnson can play both, Ellis and Maybin all can back up Schobel....

I agree on the DT by the way--but I am willing to give McCargo a chance with new Coaching and attention from Bob Sanders.

is this another situational player move?..I don't know much about Pisa and from what some of you have said, he is a slb and not a wlb..could they be trying to put 2 slb on the field on running defense and then throwing a s/lb tweener like Harris for pass defense?...we don't have any DT's capable of Buffalo switching from 4-3 to 3-4 do they?..maybe on certain plays seeing a 3-4 with Mitchell - Harris - Poz - Pisa?

run defense = Mitchell - Poz - Pisa

pass defense = Mitchell -Poz - Harris

Nothing against Keith Ellison, I like the kid, but I'd rather not see him start at LB for the Bills next season.

So, this move would definitely work for me. Better than rolling the dice and thinking Nic Harris can make an impact as a rookie, too.

Out of curiosity, how does Pisa rank compared to Crowell, Keiaho, and June?

better than keiaho and June, probably better than Crowell coming off the injury. Crowell was more of a run stuffer. Pisa is fast and athletic.

As another poster pointed out, he is listed as 6'1", 240lbs. http://www.nfl.com/players/pisatinoisamoa/...le?id=TIN225467 That is more than big enough for an OLB. And given PT's size, age, last year's production, and familiarity with the defense, he is far and away the best OLB out there. This would be great signing, especially this late in the off-season.

I don't think anyone would disagree that Ellison shouldn't be starting. It would be great to have Ellison as a ST demon and backup LB who has starting NFL experience.

I think the notation of Crowell being a run stuffer is pretty overrated. Honestly if I had the choice of anyone of those LBs, I'd choose PT in a heartbeat.

In fairness, it was also pointed out in Tim's article he played at 220.

NFL.com has him listed as 6'1" 240 lbs...that would make him the biggest LB on the team..only by a few pounds tho...but he would be the only Lb in the 240's...my last post I wrote that maybe he plays only on run defense, but I can see him playing all downs...

I can see the LB core as:

Mitchell, Poz, Tinoisamoa, Harris, Thomas, Bowen, Costanzo

I'd be shocked to see DiGi or Ellsion get cut.

One of the beat reporters for the Rams said Pisa played last year at 220. It's hard to say what his ideal weight would be. He sure doesn't look 240.

is this another classic case of everyone just wanting the bills to sign someone to sign someone? yes it is.

nobody is concerned why the leading tackler for one of the worst teams in football is being cut? i am sure he is not a bad player, but he is not a difference maker-or this would be news somewhere other than the afc east blog on espn.com.

2 lbs in DJ's D typically. lets bring in levi for a physical and see what kind of shape he is before the bills throw money out there to make it look like they are doing something for the fans. OT and DT are FAR bigger needs than olb for this team.

sorry about being a debbie downer here, the situation sounds fishy. besides...raise your hand if you have seen(or heard of) this guy play-somewhere other than on youtube? ...silence

Yeah Schobel is an injury risk and are you confident that if he goes down we will have a good pass rush. Maybin can't anchor the pass rush and Denny, Ellis, and Johnson are nice but no way would I go with them long term they are role players. So yeah I think they need a D-end to keep us from relying on Scholbel so much. And I am not too high on Kelsay taking a step up if Schobel gets hurt.

yea but seriously..if Digi or Ellison were all that good, why would Buffalo even look at other LB's?..depth?

I could see maybe keeping Ellison over Costanzo...I can't see them outright cutting Bowens when they still don't know what he can bring...Ellison's 73 tackles and 2 pass defensed can sit on the bench or sit at home...I'm ok with either aslong as he's not starting...Digi is coming off an injury year, but he had a good year in 2007 tho...both are kinda small at 229 pounds each tho

he's a very good player. if you haven't heard of him, it's because the rams haven't garnered a lot of national attention with their terrible record.

he was released because new head coach steve spagnuolo prefers bigger linebackers in his D, not because he can't play.
