Except his career is the complete opposite with regards to success. After his rookie contract expired the packers signed S Xavier McKinney to a big FA deal.  Savage than signed with the jags 3 years 21M.  After the scheme change this year, he wasn’t a fit.  Signed with wash and they are giving the younger players on a rookie deal some play as their season is over.

 

I’m not saying he’s great by any means, but he could actually be our starting S opposite bishop is he plays like he did 2 years ago.  Is only 28.

I can agree to that 100% 

 

Not saying we're getting a pro bowl player here but I definitely think he's better at his position than what Elam is at his own position 

 

He needs to be put in the right spots but Sean understands safeties

If that's true and IF he wanted to play next year and IF some team wanted him (philly/det), we could get a 7th for him, maybe?

Worst case - he ends his career potentially earlier than he wants to because of us, since he f'ed us losing Ingram. Sit and rot bleach

My understanding is that the Bills will retain his rights indefinitely.  He either plays for the Bills, or he just sits, unless the Bills release him which they have no incentive to do, or trade him (but we're way past the trade deadline for this season).  

 

I'm convinced his retirement is due to his wife being unhappy with not moving back to Philly, where she was happy.  Asking her to move to a new city she doesn't know, at the start of another typical Buffalo winter, probably didn't sit well with her.

I think he would need a fair amount of time to contribute meaningfully as a safety in the Bills' system.  The Bills signed him to the 53 man roster, so they are planning on a near term contribution.  There are two possibilities for contributing near term.  One is the obvious special teams contribution.  He obviously has plenty of speed and athleticism.  His college profile says he's good in coverage.  Buffalo's immediate need is for depth at cornerback.  Could he play some cornerback in a pinch?

He has nickel experience and the speed for it. 

 

Jordan Hancock is also a great athlete and if needed in a playoff game he has the ability to play outside cb and nickel. He did both at Ohio St.

My buddy is a die hard Packers fan and said Savage was good for them up to 2023 before he left.

 

So no, I don't think this is like Elam at all.

Good point. Kid has talent and even though I despise McD still being our head coach he’s actually pretty good with DBs. At the very least it’s a good depth pickup. I’m cautiously optimistic about our safeties not botching things up now that Hamlin and Rapp are out for the year and we have Bishop, Poyer, Hancock and now Savage

Her and the kids I’m pretty sure still lived in Philly while he was in Pittsburgh. What difference does it make if he’s in Buffalo or Pittsburgh if she’s not moving.
