What's wrong with Josh?

I know the Bills won big today, but it wouldn't be TBD without the usual whiners like me to come by and complain. 

 

I'm a bit concerned with Allen's game right now. He hasn't looked like his usual self for the majority of the season. Missing open receivers, not being able to escape rushers, and just looking kinda flat out there emotionally compared to what were accustomed to.

 

I know the receivers don't create much separation, but it's not like they revamped the room this year. It's mostly the same guys he had last year and although he wasn't lighting it up in 2024, he was still fitting the ball into really tight windows. There isn't a lot of that this year. 

 

I know it's not popular to criticise him here, so for the record, I'm one of his biggest fans. But out of all of the problems this team has, Josh Allen's play is the most concerning for me. Not that he's been horrible, but this team has no chance if he's not far and away the best qb in the league.

He missed a couple wide open receivers today.  Maybe playing with that wedding band is affecting his throwing motion

I think the coaches have been modeling him into a game manager for a few years now, and this is what they want.

This doesnt explain him missing throws.   He hasnt been good for a month now, and that isnt a result of being a game manager.

No separation from WRs and the OL not being as good at pass blocking as they get credit for. Results in quick pressure, nobody open to throw to and as the game goes on Josh gets happy feet because he's not trusting the protection.

He leaves the pocket too early.  When he does, instead of going to right all the time, run middle of the field (there were running gaps in the middle).

It does explain it if he's trying to do something that isn't in his nature...which would include being a game manager if you ask me

 

Josh needs to be Josh. Any other version of him will not be what he's supposed to be, and it might look like he has looked these past few games

a lot to this. I really think Brady needs to figure out ways to get him into rhythm early with some easy throws, and Josh needs to take them. 
 

one of the worst throws today was that early bullet to Kincaid on the first drive. It looked so out of rhythm.

He said it himself postgame 

 

He's not trusting his feet.. a quarterback has to hit his drop and stop overthinking

 

he's overthinking... It happens to every quarterback at some points.. we've said this for years but we always go back to the all 22 and then our guys open underneath that he doesn't hit occasionally.. not saying he's missing wide open guys all game.. just he sometimes Misses guys.. but if you're only throwing 25 times every time he misses and amplified compared to 45

 

We had people here saying Josh Allen was going to retire in a couple years lol he's literally not even going to hit his peak till his 32 , he is still growing 

 

And he's already an MVP... Defensive coordinators are paid a lot of money and they're throwing everything they can to confuse Josh Allen and they know what does work after all these years 

 

You just have to keep growing.. Josh is not a finished product today still

 

There is still a better version of Josh Allen that nobody has ever seen that is still untapped

I think he is suffering mentally from having terrible outside receivers. He said before the game that they were doing well in the run and the inside-the-numbers passing game, with the obvious point being that they suck at the outside intermediate-to-deep game. Watching Troy Franklin today, I can’t help but think he’s significantly better than Keon Coleman, who was trash vs Carolina.

He has been off the mark too frequently, especially the past few games. No QB is perfect on all throws and Josh always has a few "what was that"'s? But it's been more than usual.

 

And it's coming at the worst time bc it's not like we have open pass catchers on a regular basis where we can afford to be missing them when they're there. Which sucks for him that he has to take criticism in large part due to things he can't control. But it is what it is. He's gotta stop missing the mark as much as he is.

I'm afraid Josh Allen is going to do too much and make costly mistakes against our rival the Chiefs. He knows his team is 0-4 in the playoffs against the Chiefs.

Um … Josh has done pretty well vs KC in the regular season the last few years …

He's in a slump. He gets in a slump at some point every single season.

 

Nothing new and nothing to be too concerned with. If he's still playing poorly in a couple weeks at his second home ( Miami) I'll start to worry.

3. likes throwing to speed receivers in 11 personnel.

 

We built an offence basically the exact opposite of that lol

I've noticed he takes a long while to warm up to new WRs, and he's playing like he doesn't trust anyone who isn't Kincaid or Shakir.
