BigAl2526 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago It is a no brainer that Poyer will be activated. I do agree that Poyer should be as effective as Rapp. That's a pretty low bar. I think McDermott will be looking at his options should Poyer get hurt or not be effective. The problem is the options are really limited. The best free agents still on the market are Julian Blackmon and Justin Simmons. Both have significant warts, obvious since they are still unsigned in late October. On the team right now are Cam Lewis, (undersized) Jordan Hancock (unproven rookie) and Sam Franklin Jr. (never been more than a special teamer). 1 Quote

Just a complete failure of team building at this position. Seems kiiiind of early to call Cole Bishop a complete failure. He earned a starting role in his rookie year and has flashed in his 2nd year. Did you forget about the Saints interception? These type of overreactions are all too common right now. Chill out everybody. Yes, Taylor Rapp has been a huge disappointment. Did you expect that to happen this year? Because I didn't. 1 1 1 Quote

Not a Buckeye fan but see quite a bit of them some years. He is an excellent tackler. Not a huge guy that overpowers people but more a technically proficient guy that knows how to put people on the ground and is very willing to do so. OSU ran a ton of press man and took pride in it up until Matt Patricia came on board this year and he's since incorporated a lot more zone. There's a caveat though in that Hancock wasn't just a corner for them; in addition to working at corner on both the boundary and slot, he also spent a ton of time playing safety for them, especially in his last year. He might have even spent half his snaps at FS in his senior year and the OSU defense definitely benefited from it. He's a really smart player that can do a lot of things because he understands the defense as a whole and can play multiple roles in it. I think safety is his best fit and he can eventually thrive in that role; I'd much rather see him out there learning OTJ than watch Poyer out there trying to keep up with skill players 10 years younger than him. 7 1 3 Quote

We still could have found a way to come up with a 3rd. We also could of taken D. Alexander from Toledo or Green from Marshal without all the 2nd round sacrifice. I really wanted Walker so I'm very happy there. I also wanted Jackson and believe he will turn into a Crosby. I will for sure give them props for Hancock, Strong and Hawes. Quote

I think the Bills believed the hype about them steamrolling through the season, so they signed Tre White, Gabe Davis, and Jordan Poyer to find a way to get them a ring, finally. How nice. But those spots should have been used for younger players who can help the Bills win, now. Putting White and Poyer onto the field as starting DBs is a disaster. Yes it's good the Bills have them available but they could instead have had young players who can still run, in position to fill those starting spots. 3-4 vets on marginal practice squad spots vs. marginal undrafted players aren’t the difference in this teams fortunes. Tre is the only reunion player not on a marginal PS slot and there’s legit criticism that he’s not good enough to be counted on as a starter. The rest I am not worrying too much about because PS squad guys on call ups rarely play well and aren’t changing much. Quote

Jauronimo Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago On one hand, Rapp has been terrible. But on the other hand, if we had a better option one would think he would be out there. My position is that I am cautiously terrified for our secondary. 2 1 1 Quote

Agree, coaches coach players up….or at least should. Zero defense of Rapp but putting Poyer out there being some Win for the safety position…..oy vey. Quote
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I wonder how Javon Holland is doing this year. He was the one free agent I really wanted. Quote
jaybeezee Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Didn't even know he was hurt. Can't you all see the coincidences with this team under mcdermott. They pay these washed up, never really ever been that good players and IR them when his defense gets exposed. Then he has the excuses that we were banged up on defense. Same with the offense. Last year Cooper missed like 5-6 games with a hurt wrist, now Palmer with an ankle sprain. Earlier in the year it was Oliver with a non football boo boo. Time for change with the entire coaching staff. This team needs nee leadership Quote
Mark Vader Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago 1 hour ago, HappyDays said: There was a clip going around from one of the practices this week that appeared to show Jordan Hancock on the field with Cole Bishop and getting 1 on 1 coaching from McDermott after the rep... Probably shouldn't read too much into that but maybe they'll give the rookie a shot. I do expect Poyer to be activated to the roster, we have two open spots right now. No way Poyer can be worse than what Rapp has shown so I can live with it if he ends up starting. Hancock is going to have to get some real playing time eventually. Might as well be now. 1 2 Quote

Scary thing is, the last we saw of Poyer in a Bills jersey a few years ago, he was completely washed. We were celebrating when he moved on. He’s many years removed from “All-Pro Po,” but can he be better than Rapp at this point is all that matters. I’d like to see them gamble on the rookie, Hancock, provided he knows the defense well enough. Poyer played 18 snaps in the 2nd half of the Atlanta game actually. Quote
