It was a short week.  We played a team with a coach who is about to be fired.  Tua, Hill and Co. led the league in offense not too long ago. We had two starters out on D and a few others nicked up.  We won by 10.

We won 5 straight AFC East Championships under McBeane.  We didn't make the postseason 17 straight seasons before they arrived.  How quickly some forget.

Go Bills

I think I mentioned this last night. but I am worried about Tre White.

He seems to be at the point where he is playing his own personal prevent defense: “just don’t let them get behind me”. Which gives his receiver 5-10 yards of pitch and catch each time.

Because this is how we get bounced every year. The team keeps doing the same things with the same warning signs and come January we go home. All while having not only the best QB this team has ever seen but the best in the league right now. Until proven otherwise the fan base that gets shouted down every time they dare ask can we talk about the coach or can we get a WR is going to be skeptical until they do it. This is Josh Allen's prime. RIGHT NOW, it will plateau then decline. We have to at least get to a championship game or WTF are we doing?

This was a really hard game to try to extrapolate anything from…short week and this whole ‘death of the dolphins’ thing was based on just vibes basically and nothing really schematic or personnel wise on the offensive side.  Hill/waddle is a top wr duo in the league and anyone forced into putting a depth cb on waddle is gonna struggle.  Their big gamechanging plays were pretty much just great players making great plays..that third and long catch by tyreek where tua got flushed and overthrew him by 6 feet was crazy.    achane is a beast and forces you to contain those wide runs all night.

if the chiefs trade for tyreek I think a lot of last night becomes very playoff relevant and I will join you in panic for sure haha but hill/waddle really outshine even the wr duos we’d see in an afc playoff run..  especially given I don’t think rice will be 100% this year

if the dolphins look crappy the rest of the way it’ll make me re-evaluate I’m sure but they started to flash peak dolphins offense at times in the pats game even with a few olinemen without much prep time getting forced into the lineup. Those guys have had a week+ of reps with the starters now so it’s pretty natural they’d improve a bit and no Ed def made things easier

someone may have already said this, but now that i'm thinking about it, i'm happy with a relatively 'unfavorable' win.

why?

i love playing mike mcdaniel. this non butt whipping ensures he probably stays on for the year. the team didn't quit on him.

and i prefer tyreek hill getting balls underthrown to him by Tua in September as opposed to perfectly placed and timed balls by Mahomes against us in January

That's a you problem

Me and the stat sheet guys are having the same problem I suppose.

How would you grade his performance thus far? Worth every penny? Serious question

We are so bad on third down.

I think there’s a bit of a perception issue, because in the last 6 years or so, the numbers of the Bills on third down haven’t looked nearly as bad as the way it “felt.”

But now, it looks AND feels really really terrible in back to back years.  And I know they were good last week, but Justin Fields ain’t an NFL QB and McD and co are good enough to make him look silly.

Not sure what the answer is, to be honest.

Yea agree. We have always been a decent 3rd down defence with the odd big breakdown. Until the last two years. And it doesn't look much better yet.

The fact that you want to bring a stat sheet into it is part of the you problem.

He's doing exactly what he's being asked to do and doing it very well, as per usual.

If you want to chew on McD and Babich for chaining him to the LOS, have at it.

I agreed with it the first two games and understood it to a point last night, but it's becoming excessive.

I mean it looked great against the Jets when they held them to 0-11+ for only the 2nd time in NFL history(the other time was the Bills against the Jets a few years ago), but yeah, the other games not so much. Irritating because just like last year, they get them backed up in 3rd and long regularly but teams seem to move the ball much easier in those situations than in 1st and 2nd down situations.  Just like Allen where no 3rd down is too long to convert, same concept against our D. 3rd and 20? I still expect the other team to convert somehow.

It’s almost like we were down 2 starters

Maybe 3 or 4 with those suspensions

Well I guess that's a larger discussion about the way he's being used and if that was their vision when they gave him $80M.

Can't say I'd be shelling out that kind of cash for setting the edge on a defensive system designed in part to allow some rushing success.

what is this? these are our games vs New England Patriots 2009-2016

you know what i see? a few blowouts yes. but i see a lot of close, 'winnable' losses

my point is, the last dominant team in the division didn't always look pretty. hell, they often made mistakes, but always found a way to win.

much like this bills team is doing now.

i agree but there is 1 big crucial difference between that Pats team & this BILLS one: they got to the championship games where we havent. If we were a dynasty like the Pats, the team would have earned everyone's benefit of the doubt, because they have that Lombardi to prove it. But when you're on year 9 with the same coach & you're still trying to climb up that hill, people want to see improvement in the areas that have historically been an issue. Otherwise its a bit like doing the same thing over & over again expecting a different result.
Me personally: i dont think there's much to take from last nights game. Divisional games are always tougher, but the D remains an area of concern with the D-Line play & secondary. If we're not better there come playoff time, it will be an issue once again that ends our season & its on to year 10.

The bar is pretty low, so it’s easy to expect too much. Yet here we are.

People seem to be in denial about how close they were to losing that game. And they also seem to not particularly care that we haven't made any adjustments to the defense in years despite consistently having the same issues, or that that the coaching staff's offensive gameplan is centered around taking the ball out of our best player's hands.

Hey, but you're supposed to enjoy the ride and just pretend it's bad luck when they lose in the playoffs yet again after the same fatal flaws creep up.

People just spew BS sometimes...

We're playing more man than ever. We are blitzing more than ever. We are running more 4-3 than ever.

But sure, they haven't made any adjustments in years. What nonsense.

It's just not a SB Defense right now. Maybe as players return we'll see much better results.  Oliver, Hoecht, Milano and Hairston should supply ample juice. As long as Sean breathes, he will continue to run his zone scheme.  That will never change. But unless our pass rush picks it up, we'll be relying on Josh to spin 30 every week.

No one accepts a win quite like Bills fans 🤣

All fans are like this. I have a friend who is a 49ers fan and he seems pissed when they win...

They are doing nothing different. Still targeting undersized players who end up injury-prone. Still can't get to the QB. Still cant get off the field on 3rd down. Still giving gigantic cushions to receivers. Still completely reactive. The defense is actually worse this year than in previous seasons.
