Poyer is on the PS to help the Safeties as an extra coach AND if we suffer injuries.  Not a big deal and if that is his role, its a solid move.  Bishop can use his experience in this defense

I also agree here... mentorship will also be important.

I think Forrest was supposed to have been that in the off-season. I think we all hopped that blindly..

If that's the case, I'd rather have Poyer than Forrest as he's proven to know McD's system.

This signing may more likely be about him helping with the development of the two young safeties.  Sixteen PS positions create more than enough opportunities to develop young players and provide injury replacements.  This may turn out to be a smart move, even if there is never any intention of having Poyer see game action.

I think so, and I'm glad they're doing it at the start of the season instead of just before the playoffs.

WRT Hyde's effect last year:  https://www.si.com/nfl/bills/news/bills-cole-bishop-taylor-rapp-afc-championship-game-injury-report

https://www.syracuse.com/buffalo-bills/2025/01/how-bills-micah-hyde-is-helping-cole-bishop-prep-for-chiefs-with-taylor-rapp-out.html

“He played in this defense for a long time,” Bishop said. “So things the coaches might coach, a player, you see it a little bit different on the field. He’s been able to help with that. Been trying to pick his brain about everything.”

“It’s easy to do the classroom stuff,” Bishop said. “I can sit in there, ask a bunch of questions (and teammates will) answer them. But being actually out there getting reps definitely changes things. So been fortunate to get a lot of reps and I’m feeling more comfortable.”

The Bills emphasized Hyde’s potential impact on Bishop when they reached out to bring him back to the team. The two spend time together in the film room so the former All-Pro could get to know Bishop. Hyde’s been impressed with Bishop’s size, speed, and knowledge for the game at just 22.

“Since I’ve even been here, he’s taken great strides and not letting the same mistakes happen twice. That’s a big thing," Hyde said. “That’s something that I was always taught as a young guy: learn from your mistakes. ... I think that the sky’s the limit for him, for sure.”

Glad to see McD being more proactive this year.👍

Disagree. This is very much like the classic "Patriot Way" of the 00s.

Once your high-priced vet ages out, let him walk. And if he wants to come back a couple years later on the cheap as a role player, welcome him back.

It used to be that guys were just waiting for their contract to expire so they could flee Buffalo and never look back. Now, we are the ones looking to move on, while the players beg to come back.

I dont want Poyer actually playing a single down, but this signing is a + for the organization, not a negative.

A plus IMO is having multiple starting level DBs on your secondary squad, maybe even a pro bowler.

Signing a guy that this very board has threads on dedicated to throwing him under the bus…..meh

I have no idea how much Micah Hyde helped? I mean, I watched the games and saw no uptick in safety play. That’s what we do as fans. Watch the games and form an opinion. If not, none of our opinions matter about anything.

The rest? I really don’t care as you seem to not handle things well when someone has a different opinion than you do.

Cheers.

This poast says it all.  Thanks

I billieve the team's message of "we need to change things on defense" gets lost when we continue to bring back the same players after busting on draft picks and free agent signings. Is it really worth keeping Poyer on the PS to teach a system that doesn't work in the playoffs instead of investing in the development of a new player?

Yes, a plus is having pro-bowlers at every position. But...

My takeaway from a lot of posts on this forum in the last few days is that many fans here do not understand how practice squad rules have changed.

This is a fantastic PS signing that gives the Bills all of the benefits of Poyer's experience without having to invest a roster spot or any real resources to have him around.  And if three safeties go down we have a body that can hold down the fort for a couple of weeks.

Seems similar to the Micah Hyde situation last season. Maybe in certain situations you can play Poyer. Obviously he knows the system and all that.

Fret not, Bills fans...for I have found my helmet and uniform (made by Franklin, we all had one) and I am ready to get out there and embarrass myself so youse guys don't have to.

"And that's your journeyman's favorite journeyman, blacklabel coming in at safety. And now the snap, Lamar Jackson pitches to Derrick Henry and....wow, Henry was nowhere near the secondary and blacklabel has engaged in a full on sprint for the locker room! Our own Sal C reports hearing 'I want my mama!' as he ran by. And that'll be a career for ol' blacklabel."

Sorry guys. I tried.

“Hey Mable, Black Label.”

Want to see how old you are.

Maybe I'm the minority, but I really like the team signing a washed up lifer or two to the practice squad. Next to no chance they see the field, they can help re-enforce the culture to the newbies.

I originally figured Tre would be a P-Squader this year.

White might end up there in a game or two as well.
