It has to be for the PS. I'm just surprised Poyer is willing to take that role at this point in his career.

Well he did play at a similar level to the Bills practice squad last year...as a starter for the Dolphins, lol

Pretty harsh IMHO.

Maybe. I certainly hope I'm wrong. I think Rapp is just about serviceable. I worry about Bishop's mental processing speed. Hamlin knows the playbook but is so athletically limited. I have hope for Hancock long term but he is a 5th round rookie.

All this he’s here to mentor. How about our staff can’t ***** evaluate and are struggling to coach guys up. Keep bringing back so many guys that you had plans to fill the roll but can’t. Something ain’t ***** working

This coaching staff averages 11 wins a year and was just in the AFC Championship game.  I'd say its working pretty well.

McDermott needs players he can trust in the locker room. White and Poyer will always support McDermott, while the younger players may take Buffalo's success for granted. The issue is that the veterans are aging and can only serve as practice squad players rather than making a significant impact on the field.

It's a similar crutch to try and understand why the team does things. It seems that the coaching staff does not trust Bishop and probably the rest of the safety room enough. Why else would he be here? There's been a whole off season for mentoring/learning. Not saying it's it's a death knell for Bishop but it's not ideal. We need him this year.

They have a guy on the practice squad now who knows the D, and could jump in should there be injuries.  And can help mentor.  You are making this way more complicated than it needs to be.  And Bishop I think will be better than we think.

Could be, just seems like Rapp and Hamlin should know the defense well enough to mentor the younger players. Not that they're athletically the best or the best players but they should be able to mentor. I get that the PS allows this type of move but it signifies some smoke from some type of issue for me.

Agree but it could be as simple as Rapp and Hamlin just aren't as good as Poyer at mentoring.  Plus, neither has shown the ability to anticipate as well as Poyer and Hyde did, though Rapp has improved at it.  Supposedly Bishop's understanding and performance accelerated notably with Hyde's tutelage, indirectly indicting Rapp and Hamlin's mentoring abilities.  With Hancock being a raw but promising rookie, having a totally focused mentor in Poyer makes a lot of sense.  Hopefully, Bishop just needs for playing experience.  We shall see!

Player coach?  If he's on the PS, he's probably not going to be on the field very often.  But he'll be in the safety room in meetings and film watching and will be able to point things out to the younger players.  A youngster like Jordan Hancock could really benefit from the opportunity to interact with a veteran like Poyer.

least he cant cheapshot our receivers now right?  im fine with bringing Po back as a teacher to the safeties.  zero way he should get on the field.

Oddly enough the biggest thing I take out of this non-event is that it suggests that Poyer is still sober.

And that makes me happy.

Why? (Asking honestly - is there an issue with those two?)

Poyer was teh one that blew him up and sidetracked his rookie season last year

Without Allen where would they be though. Dudes been carrying Beane and McD on his shoulders for years

Well since George Saimes passed 12 years ago, we called Hagood Clarke and Tony Greene to come back but they deferred.

Seriously, this is a solid move to help Bishop and Hancock get up to speed in practice setting.  Hancock's draft status and college playing experience really mirror that of Poyer's too.

One thing is abundantly clear about McDermott:  He will take decision-making over athleticism every time. Every time.

McDermott wants the guy who reads and reacts correctly on every play. If he's a half-step late getting to where he needs to be, McDermott will live with it.

It hasn't worked though. His defense has let us down for 6 straight postseasons.

I think that's part of the frustration here, it seems like he's out of ideas. Athleticism has been part of the problem.

Very simplistic take. How many of those seasons were we forced to bring in players off the couch due to injury? You also ignore all the dropped passes, bad penalties and bad spots by officials that also contributed to our lack of success on offense.
