Competitive advantage! You don't want Tampa to know if Tre is playing or not tomorrow.

I don't know that its blissful ignorance - i'm a fan of the team.  I root for their success.  I go on a site like this because there's at least a higher percentage of level-headed discussion vs. something like twitter where its just everyones hot takes arguing.  I don't think saying you have concerns about depth or something is inherently pessimistic - but basing your concerns about cornerback depth for example - because we didn't do well in a preseason game isn't fair to the players and coaching staff.  I have no idea what Dorian strong is capable of, and i don't know that i got more insight based off of that preseason game.

The 24 hour news cycle, and the NFL's insistence on daily news amplifies the importance of practice games that truly don't match the game-planning process, or the physical intensity of actual NFL football.  Every year "the game slows down" for all the QBs in the 1st round, followed by them playing actual games and it speeding back up and punching them in the mouth.  The player you are today isn't the player you will be come september, october, november, all the way to february.  Just my 2 cents in trying to try and be a bit level-headed with player criticism, and expectations.

Bingo.  Id like to have seen a better performance, but I always look back to a moment I learned something about pre-season, and the veil was lifted.

I remember a young Ronald Darby as a rookie, getting absolutely TOASTEDDDDDD during a pre-season game.  The sky was falling for me and the homies.... and then I learned that not only is there no game-planning for these games.... but that Rex had intentionally fed him to the wolves.  Not just being asked to matchup against WR's clearly above his paygrade, but Rex had game planned to roll safety help AWAY from the rookie, intentionally leaving him out on an island.

Intentionally putting a player in a worst case scenario, to see how he reacts/holds up.  Mightve been some humbling going on too.  I wont say I know much more about pre-season 'strategy', but that made a boatload of sense to me.  For every one thing the average fan knows about behind the scenes, there are 10 more we dont.

I think we all know about the crazy amount of time that goes into prepping for an opponent during the week.  We also know about the CBA deal squashing 2 a days, and total camp days, and hours practicing per day.  Camp is to get your players up to speed with the playbook, get them an overall feel for his role.  There just isnt enough time in the world to do both these things at the same time as game-plan the way they do during regular season, especially not under the CBA Agreement the players are under.

Dorian Strong or Zy Alexander for CB2

Sean would rather play Dane Jackson and Damar.  We'll be absolutely destroyed.   25th in Pass D or worse

I hate to 2nd guess an NFL coach - because no matter what, they see more than I do, and they know way more than I do.  But it seems like McDermott prefers experience & 'knowing the system' over talent a bit TOO much.

I'd love to see them give Strong a shot.

Beane watched the Eagles DL pummel Mahomes, and just dominate the whole game.  Beane took notes that is how you beat the Chiefs.  Beane has built one of the top Offensive Lines in the NFL, its deep and nasty,  Adding Bosa, Hoecht, Sanders, Walker and Jackson(game is starting to slow down for Landon), to Roos, Oliver,AJ, Solomon- the DLine is getting deep and nasty.  Games are won at the line of scrimmage.

GO BILLS!

I totally agree and all that is true and good...

The Bills were 9th in the NFL in QB Pressures in 2024.

I'm as big an x's and o's football junkie as anyone. I love Cover 1...lol... But we can all just turn that stuff off and tap into our common sense when it comes to the Bills and how teams are going to continue to attack this Defense until they prove they can stop it... The ball is coming out fast on plays designed to exploit our zones and drops in the short passing game, and we are going to continue to see a ton of misdirection and screen plays...

I think with the additions there should be no question the Bills are better upfront. But until they can solve what teams started figuring out about them in 2023, and got a little better at in 2024, this Defense will not improve like folks think it will. They have to tighten up the coverage vs the short and intermediate passing game to give those D-Linemen that extra second or two to get to the QB. A heathy Milano and Bernard for 17 games is a BIG key... But it's going to take that whole back 7... B-)

Based off all the other beat reporter tweets Sal's seems to be more accurate.

Good one.  😅

I can't think a Sal that I personally know anywhere else but in Buffalo.

Zy Alexander for cb2?  Cmon man.   Mcd is a smart man if he starts Dane over him.  Dane is very likely a much better cornerback for this defense right now….

but who knows.

Yeah. I wonder about Beane & if he prefers culture over talent a bit too much. It was just a random thought i had while thinking about some of our drafting issues. I wonder if we've passed on some players who can just flat out play because their testing scores were too low or they weren't perceived to be 'great culture' guys. Whatever the reason might be that's not solely about what they can do on the field. We could be limiting our talent pool to pick from if that were the case.

Like i said, random thoughts, not well thought out haha.

Too tight lipped sometimes. Maybe that's good though, but as a fan can be frustrating.

I must not be watching the same DL you are.

The Bills have absolutely nothing to gain by disclosing Tre‘s status. Zero. On the other hand, they can sit back and see if any communication leaks spring out, so that’s certainly a benefit to the team.

I hope he doesn’t find piloting aircraft to be too nerve-racking because we all know how he sweats…

so after your two preseason games, you pretty much got their defensive line figured out?

Zy Alexander? He's an Undrafted Rookie that was cut by his original team and has been with us for a total of 2 days. He's still reading the playbook. Plug and play is barely a thing for tried and true veterans in this Defense.

If Strong looked like he has the Defense down and has impressed the coaches during the off-season, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a shot. But Dane Jackson and Ja'Marcus Ingram would and should be the next men up before Alexander.

Even with Hairston out and White potentially being out, Alexander is unlikely to make the 53. He's just a body brought in to play in the last Pre-Season game. His ceiling is the Practice Squad.

25th!?  No way… I’m gonna say we’ll be 38th in Pass D. Best case scenario.

I’m a little confused why they even want anyone to suit up and play this season.

With such great foresight, you must be killing it with Vegas.

There is so much arguing on so many things not Tre in this thread - can someone spare me the time or reading it all just tell me if there is update on his injury yet?
