I might be a hater, but I don’t think the Bills offensive output would be that different with a combo of Ty Johnson and Ray Davis. It would definitely take a step back, but I’m not sure it would actually result in a different team record.

They need Cook. I like Ty and Ray but they don’t have Cook’s speed. Hopefully they got something done that’s a reasonable number.

I think people really underestimate how much better this offense is with a dynamic back like Cook. As other people have mentioned, the Bills haven't had a dynamic back since Shady. Davis and Ty are good backs and good at what they do, but Cook can do things either of them cannot.  When you are in a SB window, find ways to elevate your team. Dynamic players are needed to win big games

The Bills are coming off one of the best statistical seasons off all time and fans are upset about one social media post, that they are willing to blow it up

I like Cook a lot, but the Bills had a top-5 offensive line last year, and the MVP quarterback. It's hard to imagine a better situation for a RB.

Pretty sure you can make the case the mvp qb and terrific running back also made the offensive line look a little better than it is.  that is how it usually works.

Don’t you agree that he is essential to win a Lombardi

And Davis and Ty do things Cook cannot. It’s a good RB room with complimentary skill sets.

Her s my speculation on "what changed"

A. They are about to announce a deal

B. The front office told him he will start to pay fines.

There may be one other...he was informed if he doesn't play or practice til week 1, he will have limited playing time the first week or two which will impact everyone, including himself

No. Other than Josh, no one player on the Bills is essential to winning the Lombardi. Paraphrasing a Ted Lasso quote, instead of thinking he is one in a million, he needs to realize he is one of eleven.

If some reports are true, that he’d sign in the $10M-$13M range, then perhaps it’s the Bills who aren’t being fair.

That's a pretty big range, depending on the other parameters of the contract.

How much is guaranteed?  How many years?  There is a big difference between 3 years/$10 million, and 5 years/$13 million.

Most of the reports over the last couple weeks make it seem like the two sides were getting pretty close to a deal.  So it would make sense that Cook has backed-off the original asking price of $15 million per (which was always ridiculous, and something he was never going to get from any team in the NFL).

My guess is the Bills are maxing out around $11-12 million and 3-4 years.  If Cook is willing to take an extension in that range, then I think he will be sticking around for the long-haul.

That has to be laid out in the CBA and I havent heard any report of such a thing across all the various hold-ins each year.

WRT option C, it would be a very McDermott thing to put our 2nd best Offensive player on the bench for no good reason. Classic McDoghouse. I think if that were the case though, he could still hold-in another week at least before having to return to practice.

Even HoF quarterbacks with bad lines gets sacked a ton lol

Ben roethlisberger was getting sacked 40 times a year before Pittsburgh shored up their line lol

Le'Veon Bell could walk behind his line and wait for a hole to open up because they were punishing up front

Adrian Peterson wouldn't even look as special with a bad run blocking offensive line in front of him

Our offensive line is maulers there's a reason why James Cook is bursting through holes into the second level without being touched

Joe burrow is a stud and everybody knows his line is terrible and he does not make them look better lol he needs better lineman

No, I don’t agree. I think the difference between the 25th best RB and the 8th best RB is a handful of points. It’s why they aren’t paid very well (so GMs agree with me).

They can’t fine him, he’s not doing anything wrong according to the CBA

Saquon and King Henry were essential last year to their teams, and I think Cook helped us in the W column.  I think we’ll win more games with him, maybe even the Lombardi.  Go Bills!!

Maybe True…but irrelevant …it’s how important he is to the bills

Hard to imagine having a better situation for your QB than having an elite RB that can score from anywhere on the field with a top 5 OL.

Cook is a great player. Spend money on great players not below average or rarely used players like Epenesa, Samuel, and Gilliam.

Cook is far better than the 8th best RB and Davis and Johnson are probably not in the top 25. I will concede that we don't know if Davis will get better and so far he looks like a faster version of Moss. So that is good. But the talent difference between Cook and the backups is significant.
