I always qualify that game by reminding people the only time the Dolphins beat Josh was when they HARNESSED THE POWER OF THE SUN.

It took that much for them to beat us. And even then, barely.

They’ve won twice. The other was the pass Charles Clay dropped while diving on the goal line.

Charles Clay with the "pre-Kincaid."

The two plays that were uncannily similar... Josh running around forever extending the play and finally heaving a catchable but underthrown ball that most tight ends would catch... but that both Clay and Kincaid dropped.

Maybe we should call those two companion pieces, the "Kin-Clay."

Perhaps, Buffalo can bring McDaniel some happiness by allowing him to experience yet again the figurative death of yet another year of failure to become AFC East champions or beat Buffalo in the playoffs.

Tua is a good QB, and arguably very good based on the numbers (especially QBR, passer rating, and wins-losses). His sack percentage isn't bad either. The hatred of his game here is a bit laughable:

Tua is like the Bills defense...  top 10 in stats but can't get it done against the big rival (Bills for Tua; playoff Chiefs for Bills defense)

The term you're looking for is Paper Tiger.

Maybe.  I think they're a level above paper tiger.  To me the Broncos were a paper tiger last year.  Tua/Bills defense are capable of beating good teams, but it's the one big, bad Boogeyman that always gets them

Probably depends on one's exact definition of paper tiger

How is this guy even still floating around. He wasn’t even that good before his devastating injury, and he has been solidly below average ever since.

He's most likely a locker room hire. A vet voice in a QB space and someone who a lot of coaches like. If I had to guess that would be it.

Tua, and the Fish in general, have been fantastic against the also-rans of the NFL.  The knock on Tua is his durability as well as his (to this point) inability to put a team on his back and win the tough games.  It seems as though teams with well-coached defenses take away what Tua does best, and he struggles to compensate.

I don’t personally “hate on” Tua — I’m actually concerned for his long-term health and would have advised him to retire after the last round of concussions.  I think he’s a good dude and a very good QB — but not elite.

That's fair. In 2023 - his one full season - they went 10-1 against teams with losing records and 1-6 against teams with winning records (including the playoffs). That said, that playoff game was one of the coldest games ever played and they did have the number one offense in the league in yards (2nd in points): https://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/mia/2023.htm. The defense was just ok and that didn't help.

Seems so appropriate to remember these lyrics

Tua is a good dude and a good QB. He’s not a very good or great QB. He does not elevate the play of those around him which great QB’s (Josh, Mahomes) do. It’s well known what his limitations are -  off script plays, throwing deep outside the numbers, so good teams take away his first read and clog the middle. It’s not that complicated, and a lot of teams don’t have the talent to do that. If McDaniel stuck to the run a lot more and Miami invested in their O-line instead of paying bajillions to wide outs and washed up CBs they’d be a better team. McDaniel can’t help himself with the play calling and their GM is an outright disaster and must have pics of Roth with a goat because there is no reason for him to still be employed.

This is a very fair take. I think what @dave mcbride and myself were trying to say previously in this thread was, it's a bit crazy that people think he just straight up "sucks" or is even "mediocre".

I think your take on Tua is spot on
