He once voiced what I was feeling at the time when he told a ref on the way off the field in the Superbowl - "you've been bought."

I was at the game and part of that noise. I never watched the game again, but those “lowlights” look like what I remember. And why I was screaming. It was a precursor to what the Chiefs would do to us decades later.

GRRR!

I think you should take the same approach to Sean McDermott who is given his all to this community and team

And it hasn't gotten us over the hump yet but that doesn't mean he can't

I do have a soft spot for McD. And I'm sure it will be even larger when he is 99.

I just looked up his bday 2 days ago so this is so weird. Our local sports radio station does a gold jacket Thursday segment where they have a HOF on and this week it was Bill Polian. He told a phenomenal Marv levy story which prompted me to look up his age. I’m worried he will not make it like Betty white

He let his team do what they wanted with no curfew, they went out and partied all night the night b4 they played SuperBowl 25. Wasnt a slam for his bday just a comment.

Who cares even if he did ? No one partied harder than the Raiders. They won multiple times.

Marv was one of a kind.

In the summer of 1990, I just graduated from Oswego, and had one of my two summer jobs at Dock of the Bay on Hamburg Beach.  Well, the background was it was somewhat of a biker roadhouse, and the new ownership mandated us bouncers and bartenders to instill an appearance code.  The bottom line was mgmt wanted a fun summer beach club and keep the fights to a minimum.  Now I’m 5’8” and went from an accomplished wrestler, to a Powerlifter on a national level so needless to say I was built.  I was also the smallest bouncer in the group.  All the other guys were 6’3” and loaded with  steroids and GH.  Good guys, but typical meatheads.  They wanted them circulating and me with two other guys working the door.  The manager knew a college kids coming from St. Francis would be more polite, but we had to ID a person even if he was 75.

So one late afternoon around happy hour or dinner time. The Bills entourage led by Polian and Levy came to the door.  I explained to Mr. Polian the owners were just trying to make a safe, fun place so I needed his ID.  He was in a huff over it, and Coach Levy, just made a joke of it.  He said “what’s your name”.  I told him Dan, coach.  He said to the group and Levy, “Great, here you go”.  “Bill it’s a compliment.”  Well, Polian started laughing, and Coach turned it completely around.  They had I assume playbooks, etc. with them and had a private space for them.  From that Friday on, if they came in, they jokingly had their ID’s out.  My long winded point is Coach had a way of turning a little stressful thing, into a running joke.  The6 only came in maybe once or twice after that Friday, but they had their ID’s out and we made fun of the situation.  They probably don’t even remember it, but it was a memory for me.

So of all the Marvisms shared, this one was my favorite, and and true BUFFALO.

Lastly, my Dad turns 95 this August and still has it together.  He told me if Marv can do it, I probably could go a  couple more years.  Levy inspires my Dad, so for that I’m eternally grateful.

Pretty col. Marv is a cool guy and was our best coach. McD is awesome too but Marv had the swag!

I wish McDermott has the same talent on defense like Marv had...He could be winning multiple SB with Josh Allen

Currently, no NFL head coaches have lived to be 100 years old.

According to AI ^

Marv could be the 1st centurian that ever Head coached and NFL team

Something’s telling me he will lead the charge for our last game in the stadium for the championship game

it has to be this way, right?

I don't know about that given the weather in OP at that time of year. He will be 100 after all. Maybe he can lead the charge for opener against the Ravens since the weather will be comfortable or another game where the weather is still decent.

Christmas Day 1993, on the eve of what would then be the coldest game in Bills history, the team put out a call for people to come clear the stadium of snow for the next day's game.  Many showed up, for the maybe $10/hour shift. most really needing the money and many without proper winter attire.

After practice, seeing the dozens of people clearing the stadium, Marv went into the Bills locker room and rounded up coats, hats, and gloves for the many workers without.

I went to the game the next day and it was indeed a bone-chilling cold...and a hard fought division clinching win against the Jets.  While the game was indeed memorable, the biggest take-away for me was the thoughtfulness and generosity Marv exhibited the day before.

A sign that we're in a much better place now than we were a while back - not one single person has posted that we should hire Marv back because he's "a very young 100"

He's definitely leading the charge for the opener I would assume

If he is a good health and the weather isn't too bad it would be great for the last game at the Ralph also

Best Marv quote ever

”The next day out on the field, it was an extremely warm day in Buffalo…and it was a terrible practice, they couldn’t wait to get off, but I was really angry that they didn’t come back fighting better than that.  Called a meeting after practice…and told them a story, that I had learned from my own father, who had been a member of the marine corps during world war one.  Fought at the battle of Belleau Wood.

The marines were very exhausted and their commander said we are going to attack now, and the marines were unbelieving, the commander looked in their eyes and said “when it’s too tough for them, it’s just right for us”.

So I relayed that story to the players…and I said “tomorrow it’s going to be hot, and you’re going to be tired, and I’m going to be tired…but, I at least am going to go out there 100% and if you don’t…I’ll just know that when it’s too tough for you, it’s just right for me”

I met Coach Levy a couple of times.

No mortal has the ability to look into and understand every corner of another person's soul... but there's zero doubt in my mind (or really, anyone else's) that Marv is a very fine person of great character.

He once called a referee an over-officious jerk.

He saw it coming. The NFL and NBA have been absolutely ruined by over whistling. Whistles for things that have nothing to with the ball, a score, a gain.. We’ve become too accustomed to it. It’s insane. Obviously, NBA is way worse. Wild West over there with their enforcement/non-enforcement of rules.
