Just like the year they drafted Elam and Benford. One early. One late. But here we are. TBD.. as always. This convo is bumming me out a touch, so let’s hope we see the improvements during the regular season. I know the defensive stats show this team can be in the better half of the league. But I haven’t felt they’ve had THAT defense since Swartz, and I don’t know where to hang my hat since Poyer/Hyde broke up. The regular season is a different animal than the playoffs, where every team is hitting on all cylinders… but we’ll know. We will definitely know how gangster our defense is by week 10. 2 1 Quote

You only get so many chances at these critical roster positions (and nobody is going to tell me that CB isn’t a critical position). Is it Max’s fault he got hurt? Absolutely not! But you’ve gotta believe the Coaching Staff built their roster on the assumption that he’d be starting on Day One. So much so that they released Elam in the offseason. Now they’re left starting the season with no Max, no Elam, and no Rasul Douglas. As I said…..what a mess! Let’s pray Max heals quickly. Pretty sure “what a mess” and “not a damnation” you can’t connect 1 1 Quote
TFBillsfan Posted September 15 Posted September 15 (edited) Any news on how Max is doing as it’s been 3 months since his injury. Is he totally shut down right now, doing any jogging, etc? Or is more realistic he’s out until the 2nd half of the season? Edited September 15 by TFBillsfan 2 Quote

It's closer to a month and a half since the injury isn't it? 6 weeks since surgery? 1 Quote

Yes my bad, I was trying to find when he got injured and saw his initial injury in early June from mandatory mini camp. The main injury happened on July 29th so you are correct it’s been roughly six weeks. Quote
Watkins90 Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Wow. Well, leave him on IR until he is absolutely ready. Maybe that can be a good thing, fresh legs for later in the season. If we have things wrapped up, he can get some garbage time practice in to get ready for the playoffs. Quote
MasterStrategist Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Coach's comment to me is more about roster management. Max will be healthy, its the mental aspect as he said and then deciding who is cut/etc. So maybe we dont see his practice window opened up next week - depends on health of top 3 guys IMO. They dont need to rush, im sure they will let him get close to 100%. With 2 DL coming off suspensions in a few weeks as well, im sure there are tough decisions to make. 2 3 Quote

Much better to wait to ensure he is fully capable or as close to fully capable as they can guess before that happens. 2 Quote
Mat68 Posted September 24 Posted September 24 This isnt complicated or dire as some think. Same thing with White and Miller coming off more severe injury. I expect Buffalo opens Hairston practice window Monday. He will then be able to practice for I believe 14 or 21 days. They will use the entirety of the window. First part recover from injury. Based of prognosis its about that time frame. Next is getting a rookie ready to play void of training camp and pre season reps. That part will take some time too. Mcdermott is making sure the expectations are not the he is taken off IR and plays next week. 1 Quote
dorquemada Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Welp. We're not going to have him until next season, let's move on and hope that he does, in fact, recover. Who's out there at CB? 1 1 1 1 Quote
Charles Romes Posted September 24 Posted September 24 I don’t think you can leave a guy on IR if he’s physically ready but not playbook ready, which is exactly what McDermott said he is. Quote

I am with you here... if Max was a 5 year vet and knew the defense inside and out... I think we would be talking about a return much sooner... I think McD is saying I am not automatically using a roster spot on a guy who has not demonstrated that he mentally grasps the basic defense... I think when McD is comfortable that this is in place he returns... Hopefully that is this year... but he is making no guarantees. Thats my take. 1 Quote
RobbRiddick Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Im telling you, this kid will ice our playoff win over KC by intercepting Mahomes on the Chiefs final drive and retuning it for a TD. Been saying it since summer. The moving finger hath been writ 1 1 Quote

BuffaloBaumer Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Looks like a hell of a draft with 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks not doing anything this year, yikes. 1 2 1 1 3 1 Quote
