It’s not too surprising. The TE position is usually not as talent-laden as other positions. And despite the production not being great, Kincaid’s advanced metrics were improved on from his rookie year and pretty solid against his peers.

Being on the field is the main issue, health is part of it, the offense is part of it, and his blocking is part of it as he was out snapped by Knox. In addition to that, he is much better at creating separation vs zone than vs man, and we faced the highest rate of man coverage in the league last year. If our outside receivers can punish man coverage this year, Kincaid will shine more.

I want to see more Knox.  Bring Kincaid along as slowly as necessary but Knox is a baller

I want to see less Knox and more Kincaid in one tight end sets.  Even in Kincaid's nightmare season last year he had better yards after catch, yards after contact, and a lower drop percentage than Knox.

Anyone putting any stock in anything PFF has to say is pissing into the wind. .. You’re welcome

what metrics do you use to rank TEs?

All I gather from this list, is that there aren’t a lot of great TEs out there. Knox is probably better than a bunch of these guys with starter snaps.

Knox did qualify.  He had more of a snap participation rate (60%) than Kincaid (56%).  Knox's PFF grade was 57.1.  Kincaid's was 76.6.  PFF ranked Knox as 20th as a run blocker and 27th as a pass blocker.  Kincaid was ranked 9th in both.  Don't kill the messenger.

I'm on PFF right now and it says Dawson Knox does not qualify

Do you have a link to where it says he does have a qualifying grade?

Does it say how many snaps Kincaid pass blocked in?

I don’t remember many but I could be very wrong

Not sure how many were runs but Knox's snap share percentage was 60.6% and Kincaid's was 56.7%.

Never look at pff regardless if good or bad for the Bills

What do you suggest rather than just looking at the box score in US Today?

I'm not sure why people don't recall why Kincaid fell out of favor.    He was HORRIBLE in the playoffs.   Even the one long catch he was credit for in the Denver game was clearly a drop that they got away with.

What source are you using?  Pro Football Reference says Knox's drop % was 3 last year and Kincaid's was 8.  Their career yards after catch averages are exactly the same and Knox has a greater ADOT.  Rating when targeted is 102 for Knox and 92 for Kincaid.  I think Kincaid is going to be fine.  Hopefully a good TE for years to come but I feel about the same using a first round pick on him as I do paying Knox the contract we did.

Not all that surprising, considering he is a pass catching TE on an offense that:

1. Is #1 scoring offense in the NFL

2. Has has no demonstrated #1 WR

3. Is built on the principle of wide spread (everyone eats) distribution of the football.

4. Has the best QB in football.

IMHO., the fact that he’s only considered #10, is a detriment to his performance to date.
