...I am a Beane supporter overall, but am losing faith with too many moves like this, throwing good money after bad to players who do not deserve it, who could be had for much less, and who will not make the Bills better.  And now, making these moves at the expense of a player who has greatness written all over him, a vital component of the team, and entering the prime of his career.

I get it, White's not going to likely make that much etcetera, but White seems done as a quality cornerback in this league.

Maybe White will  buy Von Miller's house-- and then just sell it to the next wasted expense next off season. The Bills can buy it and call it the Money Pit.

Tre White was done as an NFL cornerback last year.  Just some strange rose colored glasses and affection for the man himself caused the Bills to make this very bad move. He can't run or move fast enough to be an NFL player anymore.  We all saw him last year and then up close this year.

Time to cut their losses, Tre White, and search every practice squad and trade option to get two cornerbacks.  This week.

Use the money they save by cutting White to sign these guys.

Then let's sell that house and never use it again.

He’s fine as your Levi Wallace/Dane Jackson/Elam replacement.  He’s not a starting caliber CB.

No he is not. Not fine at all. Not okay, not adequate, is no longer an NFL corner.

He cannot play cornerback anymore, so that means he cannot be a backuo and take meaningful snaps.

He will cost the team games as a starter, of course, and as a backup--if he plays.

A backup player must be capable of playing the position.  White cannot cover NFL wide receivers effectively or consistently.

Why pay a player who clearly cannot play?  Hope we get really really lucky and no one throws the ball near him?

Tre White is going to be the player that intercepts the ball, winning the Super Bowl for the Bills.

It'll be tipped by a DL, but he will be the guy who secures the INT, ending the Lions drive and securing the W.

Feels like we gave more than enough points away:

   - We were rolling on the drive when we had the fumble on the cutesy play, and I think that would have been at least 3.

   - Coleman's fumble handed them 3.

   - We lost at least 3 on Josh's pick (set up by a soft call from that ref crew - without that, we're likely getting a 1st down inside the 6 yard line & at least a 50/50 TD).

   - The clock should have expired at the end of the 1st half - another 3 for them.

   - No call on Shakir on that last drive - would have at least extended the drive, allowing us to chew up most of the clock, and led to a possible TD.

A cleaner, less flaggy game & it could have been a comfortable win in our favor.

There aren't 64 good boundary CBs in the entire league, let alone 32 more for good backups. It's a position with scarcity of quality players. White is probably one of the 96 best CBs out there right now. He makes a good play half the time, and gets burned the other half of the time.

Yup on your last point.  But cannot have a player at that position, period, who makes a good play HALF of the time.  After the Miami game I said basically what you are saying about that, but with the understanding that  that is why he should never again play corner for the Bills.

Just think of the repercussions at THAT position.  He is a sitting duck, as a cornerback with that lack of consistency would give one big, vital play after another--or, every other play. If you were a QB and there is an important play to make, for a third down, or to score, who would you target? I know that Tre White would be my man, and that is what we are seeing now, over and over. It will get even worse now as there is so much tape on how disarmingly poor White is now.

Can't have that, not if you hope to be a contender.

I will say it again--they need to get players right now in there who can cover NFL wide receivers consistently.  No matter what it takes, including player for player swaps, trades for draft picks, off of practice squads--need players who at least have the ability, the potential, to cover NFL wide receivers, as Tre White clearly does not. It may be a roll of the dice, but they made a mistake of rolling the dice with a player who clearly did not look like an NFL corner last year and rolled snake eyes as a result.  Now they need to take much more intelligent chances, rather then ignoring the facts, such as what was so clear to anyone watching White last year.

Praying for Max to get well

Even if he is well, I am not confident  that he will be effective…

In the little bit of practice he actually did have, Hairston looked lost.

I think the hope was that Tre returning to the Defense he was familiar with would make him at least serviceable. The issue is, not only is he not remotely the same guy anymore, but the stellar Safety play behind him he was used to isn't there to bail him out.

I don't think the plan was ever to start him and have him play 100% of the snaps as he is now. There was an outside chance Hairston would start out of the gate. But more likely he'd be splitting reps with Hairston initially, with Hairston gradually getting more as he got his sea legs under him - ultimately starting and taking over by this point or mid season. Hairston getting injured really messed those plans up.

But we had an insurance policy in Dorian Strong, like we did when we took Elam and Benford. And he showed some promise. Last night, I'm positive he'd be being cycled in for White with how bad he was playing. As he had been throughout the season.

But now Strong's on IR too. And we're just stuck with White. Relying on him 100% with no one cycling in for him, unless we want to go with Ingram.

This is absolutely nowhere to be.

The good news is i'd expect to have Hairston back after the bye or soon thereafter. The bad news is, that plan to bring him along slowly and not throw too much at him too soon will probably still happen. So I wouldn't expect them to just throw him into the fire.

Unfortunately I think that was the plan. He was getting 1st team reps from the start of camp and even before Hairston's injury he had reportedly locked down the starting job. I think they made a bad decision bringing him back and felt that way at the time. You need to be aware of your own bad habits so that you know to avoid them. They were always going to go with the culture fit veteran who knows the defense once they gave themselves that option. He had a solid training camp against what it turns out is a well below average group of outside WRs, and they used that to convince themselves he could still play. It turns out the tape from last year didn't lie - he simply is not physically capable of playing the position anymore. He'd be a nice emergency depth option since he knows the defense but it was a big mistake to enter the season with him as the starter. And now week over week it is getting worse because offenses are identifying him as an easy target.
