Booth Lusteg, Bills kicker, missed four field goals in a game, including a 22 yarder to win the game with seconds left on the clock against the San Diego Chargers in War Memorial, on October 16, 1966. It ended a 17-17 tie, and was the first Bills game I attended.

As those who have seen my posts over the decades, it is well known that right or wrong, I'm not fond of allocating our best draft resources to the secondary. That said, when Jairus Byrd came to town, he lit it up!  He was picking off passes one after the other. I thought, "maybe I'm wrong. This guy is great!" 

 

Well, at a tailgate at RWS, I mentioned my views on Byrd to @BADOLBILZ. He told me that Byrd was good but far from great. He said that many of his picks were caused by lucky deflections and not to expect this kind of production. I confess to being just a bit skeptical (if not slightly depressed) lol.

 

Well, while he was never a bad  player imo, he was far from great. His production rapidly fell off and my reluctance to drafting secondary early was fully restored. 👍🏈

Anyone remember Tommy Sweeney?  Flying home from the Bills vs Miami game on Halloween (2021?) I was seated next to his mother.  Actually one of his better games.  His mom was pumped.  Lots of BC stories and parent stories about him and his sister who I think was a swimmer or something like that.  When his father stood up and helped my wife get her over head bag down I could see where they were related.  Good people.  Kinda rooted for Sweeney while he was in Buffalo just because his parents were nice.

Butch Byrd worked as a mechanic at Great Lakes Chrysler at Hertel and Delaware.  My best friend’s dad was a salesman there.

He lived in our neighborhood and my sister would babysit his kids while we watched games at their place and I traded playing cards with his son. I exploded an egg all over that man’s suit and lived to tell the tale. Good people!

I was at the "No Punt" game in '92 in San Francisco, and I saw what had to be the longest run after catch for a touchdown by Metzelaars in his whole career. 
I couldn't believe it.

I was at the practice when Kolb slipped on the mat. People started checking Twitter on their phones because we all realized he wasn't on the field. That didn't end his career though. He got hit in the back of the head during a pre season game causing a concussion. That's what ended his career.
