Josh Allen and the Quest for 6,000 Yards

No QB in NFL History has ever had a 6,000 Total Yard season.

The record is currently held by Drew Brees with 5,562. He had 5,476 passing and 86 rushing.

Peyton Making has the most passing yards in a season with 5,477... 1 more than Brees.

Josh Allen presently has 1,980 passing and 257 rushing,  total 2,237... this is a 17 game pace for 5610+728=6330... shattering the record and on pace for first 6k season ever.

Time will tell if he can do it.  Unfortunately winter weather in Buffalo usually brings decreased offensive stats so he needs to get the numbers up early to carry him into December/January where every game will be outdoor northern winter weather (games in Buf, NE, Chi, Cin).

You mean except in last year's playoff game?

We've already had 1 awful weather game, at least 2 more are likely. That's Josh's biggest obstacle to 6,000.

And also sitting out 4th quarters and possibly the Week 18 game.

I doubt it. As others have mentioned you have bad weather games. If the Bills have the division and #1 seed locked up then they may rest him. If he does play he might only play for a couple of series in what would be a glorified preseason game.

I know records are fun but if we have home fields wrapped up I'd like to see Josh not play full games at the end of the year and risk injury. That will diminish his numbers.

I'd rather have a healthy Josh to start the playoffs rather than chasing records and getting more wear and tear on him for the playoffs.

17 games.  Should it count?

Just like 2,000 yards in 14 games season... Or perfect season of 14 games... The 1972 perfect season was easier, just as 6,000 yards in 17 will be easier...

My very first thought…..

However, 6000 will still be very hard to do and if Josh gets there he will be in rarified air for decades with only a few others joining him.
This IS an absolute Dream to be living through😍

If you projected either Mannings or Brees top 2 spots all time in total yards over 17 games, they still fall 200 yards short.  So there has never been a season in NFL history that would have equated to 6000 total yards in 17 games.  There isn't even one season by a player that comes within 100 yards of reaching 6000 yards in 17 games.

So I do not think being 17 games makes it "easier".  I would say it takes it from pretty much impossible to it could happen one day when someone puts up the single greatest season in NFL history.  In fact to do it, that person would almost certainly have to break the current NFL record within 16 games to be able to even reach 6000 in 17 games.

Add in the fact that the odds are, if a QB is having that kind of season, there is a very good chance he may not have to play much in week 17, making the achievement even potentially harder.
