Hey Bud,

I would like to suggest whenever you make a post requesting that someone takes action on, that you always address them as “Bud”. That way they know you mean business…

Hey, you listen here, Pal!

A couple questions, but will start with ticket strategy (sorry if addressed earlier in the thread):

Any suggestions on best strategy for getting tickets (we're driving from Raleigh and spending the night)?

Hoping to get two seats for me and my 5 y/o near the Bills bench (or somewhere where we could get down there near the end of the game as it empties out) and my wife and 2 y/o will sit wherever. The wherever tickets are cheap, but down by the bench, not so much ($175ish over the weekendon stubhub)...think wait till day of? I'm looking to get in there for warm-ups, so waiting until the game starts isn't an option.

You guys have no idea how obsessed my 5 y/o is with the Bills and the nfl in general, so I'm willing to pay what the seats are worth for a lifelong memory for him, but figured I'd see if people had advice.

My second question that I'm going to post separately in a bit will be more about how into the Bills he is. He has high functioning autism, and it's crazy how much he knows about football for a 5 y/o (he basically hasnt stopped watching highlights since the offseason and is getting into film breakdowns now). He knows different formations, strategy, calls out penalties before flags come out, how many scores a team would need to catch up, knows when a field goal will make it say a three score game, and the importance of that. He has to deal with so much in terms of how his brain works that so many of us take for granted, and he's trying so hard, but progress isn't always linear and he has his tough moments (not talking tough for me, but where he has a meltdown and after he calms down, you can hear in his words and his facial expressions how he's thinking "it happened again, why can't I just control it like other kids.").

I just want to do something super special for him and am OK spending money on pre-season tickets near the bench if that means he might get to see some of his heros up close.

Beane is such a refreshing interview.   You actually learn stuff.

So what's the guess on who gets a restructured contract this week?

I was just looking at that.  For guys that do not already have a restructure Dawkins is a prime candidate.

Dawkins has 2 more years on his current contract and is down to $11M in dead cap.

Beane could get up to about $5M saved with him, which would do it.

They could go with Josh, but I doubt it.

Beane said they are impressed with Sweeney.  Dorsey says Gilliam is FB and not TE.

I have to believe it could now be 3 TEs with Knox, Howard and Sweeney on the 53.

That puts pressure on the O roster and makes a good chance that 7WRs is off the table.

The only way I see 7 is if there is 26 - O and 24 - D.

Beane said restructure so I don't see any new long-term extensions this year for Edmunds, Poyer, Knox or even Singletary.

I'm down with that.  Let them all play and worry about who you are keeping next spring.

Beane's exact words (when asked if trading Ford got him where he needed to go for the 53-man cap) were "I'm going to do something probably this week" and "I'm probably going to do, Um, ah [looks down] a restructure this week"

I think we're gonna see a move this week, but I'm not sold that it's going to be a restructure.  He said first he was going to do SOMETHING, then he said "probably going to do a restructure".

Poyer has a $10.8k cap hit right now, according to Spotrac.  Just sayin'.

I was thinking if he was going to sign one of those guys, he would have done it already.

Restructure or something, something could be a trade, I guess.

I'm not one to imagine in any way I know more than the guys at OBD.  I get a kick on trying to guess what they are thinking.

Sounds like you do too.

Can you imagine this place with a similar situation to the Lawyer Milloy trade (think he was similar age and contact status too right?) and losing in a blow out week 1?!

Damn. That's a real bargain for a player of his quality.

Yeah, I like to try to read the tea leaves

I wouldn't rule out an extension.

Buried in the publicized 53-man roster cut deadline of August 30, is the quiet actual expiration of the 51 man salary cap (vs 53 man plus practice squad having to fit under the cap).  This year that will be 12 am September 8, with 4 pm September 7th being a deadline to file any contract changes

As far as would have done it already, Beane has previously signed players to new contracts in the week between roster cutdown and this quiet, less publicized deadline.  For example, Tre' White was signed on September 5th 2020.

If a player and agent are playing hardball, they may not want to reach an agreement too soon, but there's an additional impetus for the players to sign before the season actually starts, especially if the new contract has fully guaranteed salary for the next season and/or injury guarantees and they're in their last year.

Avert, but you don't need to be a tea-leaf reader to know that a player who suffers a season-ending injury during his last year under contract, is likely going to take a big hit on a new contract especially if he won't be available at the start of the following season.  So a player may be willing to negotiate a little bit more to get 'er done.  I don't see Knox being "into" contract negotiations right now, and I think Beane has made it clear that he's gonna "wait and see" on Edmunds.

Poyer I think could happen.

It puts him like 14th for safeties overall in AAV, so yeah.

The other side, though, is that only a couple of those guys were pushing or over 30 when they signed.

I think he deserves to get Paid so I hope they can work something out.  Pay Poyer!

By my count, it makes him the lowest paid safety in the league in AAV.

Beane really is a wizard.

My thought when I saw Ike was PUPed today was Pau'u had to be relieved..

I think Pau'u is a prime candidate for the practice squad.

There have been good things said about him in camp, and he was a good receiver at Brigham Young. Very good potential.

I'll take that season outcome. Milloy wasn't a trade though. New England released him and we signed him.

Moving arguably your best defensive player right before the season sends the wrong message to everyone on the team.  I suspect our team is a lot closer off the field than the Patriots were.

Well, this is probably his last year in a Bills uniform so I think a lot of it depends on what or who you are getting back.

It does?

The Bengals just went to the SB after going 4-11-1 in 2020… The Bucs won the SB the year before after finishing 7-9 in 2019.

What are you talking about?

So that means the Chargers are automatically going to do it? Bucs got Brady so only 1 time and they got lucky. You are Scottlaw so it isn't surprising.

Just looked at the line for this game and I know most will probably sit, but the Bills are plus 6 points right now.

Take the Bills and the points.  Our backups will wipe the carpet with theirs in the 2nd half.

Any player suggestions?  Trevon Diggs and move him to safety hahaha?

It wouldn't be safety for safety more than likely. It would likely be for a future asset if it were to happen because I don't see another team trading us a player with more controlled years for a 31 year old safety who wants big money when he hits 32.  To be clear, I don't think it will happen at all. However, if it were to happen I wouldn't be shocked. Jaquan Johnson can play, they drafted Demar Hamlin and Josh Thomas is also pretty decent as depth. Ultimately I don't think anyone will offer up a package that would be more valuable than Poyer is to the Bills this year.
