[Edit] The Obligatory Edmunds Thread (was: Edmunds name-only title)

this has been Edmunds' MO the entire time hes here.   he's terrible between the tackles.   hes very good in zone coverage sideline to sideline.   so when u go against a team that will pound the rock hes gonna show baaaaad.    against passing teams with weaker run games he looks servicable.

also.   most of those runs last night made Epenesa look like he shouldnt be playing football.    same play over and over,  and he cant figure out whats happening to him.  totally out of the play....every friggen play he was in for.

As a courtesy to the other board members, please use more descriptive topic titles. A single name if far too vague to post as a title and provides little insight into what specifically the post is talking about. The topic starter can edit the topic title line to make it more appropriate.

Thank you.

Just add sucks after the name, summarize him quite well.

Klein is a MLB but was "unavailable". I wonder if they would have done anything differently if he played.

This is a good point.  I need to wait for the snap counts, but to my eyes we were playing Base D more often last night, using Tyrel Dodson instead of Klein

Several times when I saw a big hole open for the run, it was Dodson being swung aside like a Saloon door.

Epenesa is the poster boy for this organization.  Lose 25 pounds to be better against the pass regardless of the effects against the run.

It was understandable when -as a teenager,  he was thrust into a starting role because he’s an absolute physical freak. But now that he can buy rounds of cocktails while his unawareness remains staggering prevalent, his future here must be re-evaluated. To those crying we shouldn’t have added the 5th year option on the 1st Rounder, it was a shrewd option to see if he would finally grow into the role at the veteran age of 22 (Ha!). He hasn’t and the team can now opt to let him test FA after next season unrestricted by a ton of dead money for years after.

No, it was a stupid move because you could have tagged him if he finally showed up, instead you have a huge contract on the books for a replacement level player and you can’t do anything about it.

Klein wasnt available last night,  but when he is,  id much rather have him in on possible run plays.   let Edmunds be the coverage guy on passing downs.

Klein is also a much better pass rusher than Edmunds imo

You want to have 20 Million tied up in one position and have 2 players that both suck at 50% of the game?  Klein is the better player overall, Edmunds is an absolute liability.

The opposition runs the ball 46 times-

I didn’t see our MLB make one play.

he apparently had 2 solo tackles and 4 assists.

harrison Phillips had 5 solo tackles and 2 assists…..while playing 1/2 the snaps and playing nose tackle

MUCH better.  Edmunds is quite possible the worst pass rushing LB in league history

I don't really care about next year but for the rest of this year they really need to start subbing Edmunds. Play him vs pass happy teams and on obvious passing downs. When you're playing a team everybody knows is going to run every down like last night he can't be on the field

You mean like the Colts game? Last night and this season for that matter are on the coaches and schemes, not the players.

Playing the nickle when there was zero chance of a pass was definitely 12th dimensional chess. Cheers to Frazier.  Next week his plan is to play defensive backfield players, 0-0-11.  Tampa wont be expecting it!

Completely agree.  It’s obvious what they saw in him, but there is zero reason to keep waiting for him to “get it” at this point.  There are LBers every year that are being drafted in the first two days that have shown themselves to be much more capable than Edmunds.  Kansas City took Willie Gay last year at the bottom of the second round.  He was every bit as raw coming out as Edmunds was, and he looked every bit as lost in his rookie season.  The light came on this year, and he’s a monster.

Tre has now started 56 games.  That’s longer than the average NFL player’s career.  I don’t see how you can possibly pay this guy in hopes that he will suddenly become something he’s never been, especially at such a replaceable position.  Let him walk after next year and hope someone signs him to a contract that factors into the comp formula.  Better yet, see if someone will give you a bag of footballs for him after this season and let them eat the $13,000,000 he’s due.

Showing your ignorance in fantastic fashion earns you style points. Glaring lack of understanding, not so much.

Go back and watch every single big play NE made on the ground... you'll notice 49 either completely washed out of the play, or fail to get off a block.

Looks like tarzan, plays like jane. It's not going to improve. Let miami overpay him next year.

It’s wouldn’t hurt my feelings to get rid of everyone Except the young guys we drafted last year. A.J would be gone too this is his 2 year and he dose nothing. And for god sake please get rid of jerry huges and Addison there done.

There was a play last night (actually probably many) where the broadcast showed the replay and the Pats linemen litterally just pushed Edmunds to the side with little effort, running back runs by and gets a decent gain. Edmunds is just not that good. He's not terrible, but he's not a star. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because he's still pretty young, but he needs to step up

I’m shocked that none of the usual Edmunds defenders are around in this thread. Never thought I’d see the day where they were silenced. It’s been said over and over, doesn’t matter who’s playing up front to “help” him, he simply lacks the instincts to play the position. I don’t even want to revisit his stats regarding impact plays, or lack thereof, but when an offense runs the ball over 40 times and your starting MLB doesn’t have at least ONE tackle for loss, there’s a problem. Trade him after this year and see what you can get, if Beane is a shrewd GM he’ll do just that. If Edmunds goes into next year without someone else on the roster to challenge his position, this franchise deserves to dwell in mediocrity, and that’s unfair to us fans.

Colin...ton of talent? At what? Over running plays. Getting blown up 10yds. downfield? No more excuses... he's young, he's fast blah blah blah...

lol, you said it.  he's huge, super fast, athletic, moves around well.  he looks like an all pro like half the time, and he makes just plain old errors the other half.
