So, all you doorknobs who want socialism in the USA - how many more countries do we need to see it fail to be convinced. Yet we have idiots like Alzheimer Biden, Sanders, and the Squad crying out for it.  I guess starvation appeals to these brainless dolts.    What a mess.

I would trade 1000 tibs for one Cuban protester.

Joe Biden finally woke up from his nap and has issued a statement on the protests that are happening in Cuba. This is about their fourth attempt at this, but his statement still has a couple of glaring issues.

“We stand with the Cuban people and their clarion call for freedom and relief from the tragic grip of the pandemic and from the decades of repression and economic suffering to which they have been subjected by Cuba’s authoritarian regime,” Biden said in a statement.

“The Cuban people are bravely asserting fundamental and universal rights. Those rights, including the right of peaceful protest and the right to freely determine their own future, must be respected,” Biden said.

“The United States calls on the Cuban regime to hear their people and serve their needs at this vital moment rather than enriching themselves.”

Now I like the term “clarion call for freedom” terminology and saying they stand with the Cuban people. But it isn’t a “clarion call for freedom from the tragic grip of the pandemic” that they’re talking about in the streets. It’s the clarion call for freedom from the Communist dictatorship.

They really want to make everything about the pandemic, don’t they?

The people aren’t chanting “Give us more medicine!” They’re chanting, “Libertad! (Freedom!).” They’re chanting, “Enough.”

Where is Biden calling out Communism anywhere in that statement? Or is that too hard for anyone on the left to do? Where is there any admonition not to attack the people and the condemning of what the government has already done?

This isn’t about the pandemic at its base. It’s about the government truly being of the people, not the Communists.

Cuba does not have democracy. Socialism imposed by dictators is different than the people elected a government and making decisions.

Can you understand that?

Castro was a part of the Cuban revolution and was a key to the overthrow of Batista…. He then became Prime Minister and took the country to socialism (schooling and healthcare) before aligning with the Soviets under communism.  Afterwards, he focused on Chile, Nicaragua and Granada where the socialist ideas were spread under his influence (save for Soviet Union).  It’s literally the socialist playbook.  Come to power, divide the country, increase power through division, destroy dissent and most importantly…. Do everything not to lose power, by any means.  I know you think what you say is funny, but as someone who speaks with a jovial authority, you should have much more historical understanding to back up your understanding of it.  What’s happening is textbook and I say this having voted for President Biden.  Im at a complete loss at what I’m seeing, as are most Americans that have chosen to turn off the news and find facts beyond what Facebook tells them.

FDR / Eisenhower style socialism, dummies. You know, what made America the strongest nation on earth in the 20th century.

"Make America Great Again!" You know, like the good old days of the 1950's and early 60's, until the socialist hippy scum ruined everything!

So I guess that means that Venezuela is your model?

Good Lord.. the gross, abject acknowledgement on the failure of socialist economic institutions is astounding.

How many generations need to pay that price?

Somebody is "Libyaing" in Cuba.  This "homegrown", "organic" protest feels awfully similar to those we saw in Libya and Syria.

They might as well chant "CIA" to the heavens.

I usually just laugh at your posts but this one takes the cake.   Educate me.  How is socialism different when it is implemented by elected officials vs dictators?  This ought to be a doosey.  What a mess.

Our friend fails to inform us that ultimately even "elected" socialist systems degenerate into the dictatorship model.  The reality that the most productive members of society will choose to exit such a situation must be dealt with by forcing them to stay.  And as democratic societies work they generally do not share this characteristic.  So government force and coercion becomes a necessity.

But the fatal flaw of socialism and communism is they ultimately descend into the equal distribution of nothing.  Poverty for everyone but the political elite.   If you want a firsthand assessment find somebody like my acquaintances that grew up under the Soviet system and watched it fall prior to emigrating the US.  They think the lefties here are at best naive idiots and at worst a danger to freedom and democracy to desire such a system.

The irony of this thread (and forum) is nobody is in true disagreement of how awful socialism and communism are.  There’s just 2-3 posters (and their many sub accounts) that spend day in and out pretending they welcome it, just to get a rise out of people.

Maduro was elected, was he not?  That is, until he wasn't.  But surely a government can't gain so much power as to make elections moot!

Don't you know socialism is good if implemented by the duly elected and not dictators?  Ask Tiberius.   What a mess.

I am pleased that you call me an idiot.

I have spent many, many of days in Venezuela and watched what has happened first hand.

I am well aware of their political system.

I am well aware of Jimmy Carter going down there to judge their elections, elections that were "democratically" conducted, as he endorsed them.

Otherwise, he would not have gone.

Want to tell Jimmy that it is not a "democracy?"

He went down there to endorse a dictatorship?

I would prefer to not insult posters here, but you sir, are absolutely ignorant.
