Apparently not interested in the other two openings

Great news!   If Daboll's endgame is HC, I'm glad he's waiting for the right opportunity and not just jumping at the chance anywhere.    Also, the longer Daboll is here, the more t

When asked why he wants to stay he replied "Unfinished business.  I want to go an entire season without calling a single running play before I go"

Wonder if Frazier sees the Texans the same way. Stay and be successful, or potentially walk into a gigantic mess

He is at the end of his career at about 62 I think.   Give him a four or 5 year  contract at $5 or 6 million a year, and he can get out after, whether he gets fired during the

term of the contract or not.   Rex R had a 5 year $5mil per year contract, and he collected every penny even though he was let go after less than two years.  So, imho, he would have to go if he got the offer.  He probabily makes 2+ mil with the Bills I am guessing, but don't know.

I'd bet a month paycheck on defense being the first pick... we need more LB's. and dlineman... (pass rushing End / and a HUGE SPACE EATER) Offense a monster guard would be nice and it would not surprise me to see them go after a center either.  we are pretty set at everything else on Offense (Williams might be the physical runner we are looking for next year).  Defense needs some work and some personal tweaking.

I like that long tall safety at ND......reminded me of John Pitts.  You younger guys need to look him up.

That would be 3 premium picks used on RBs in 3 years, for a passing offense.  Would be borderline insane.  Tight end on the other hand, you help the running game, the short passing game, opens up the offense, etc.

Looking at this team and being objective we dont have any glaring holes, other than TE and maybe a pass rusher. Even then im willing to give Knox one more season. A quality pass rushing DE is prob the biggest need.

We may have the best pass blocking Oline in the nfl. Where can we upgrade at Oline? We need to resign williams at all costs.  If we are able to keep the same Oline and just add another depth player that would be awesome.

Above all else I think this team needs a pass rusher. Hughes is getting up there in age at 31 and Addison i think is 33. However where we’ll be drafting we are going to be hard pressed to find a day 1 starter on the DL. Will Epenesa be ready to emerge?  DL has the most questions to me out of our entire team and unfortunately its the highest paid unit i think.

secondary is solid.

LB id pay Milano and with Edmunds and Milano we would be set for years. Or we can use our first round pick for a LB and drop milano $$ on another rotational DL free agent

wr we are set

rb we are set with singletary, moss and williams pushing them both

The Bills are a close knit team, to include the coaches and players.

I wonder if the players are going to be a little pissed their boy got overlooked for a HC job and take it a little personal?

Wouldn't surprise me one bit.

You have to wonder if Daboll and Bienieme are poor interviews.

I also wonder (please comment if you know) if Biebieme actually calls the plays for KC.

I've always found Daboll to be very articulate and well-spoken.

I thought he’d be a great fit with the Chargers to develop that young QB. Instead, they roll with a defensive minded coach. I don’t know if I agree with that move.

that said, at the end of the day I’m happy he’s still in Buffalo.

I wouldn't be surprised if Daboll pulled out himself. Basically, the reports that he was the front runner came out, that made it much more real, he slept on it and decided it didn't feel right.

Hopefully Dorsey can be patient and they give him a big raise and keep grooming him, because him leaving this year would almost be worse than Daboll leaving for the long term.

I think he's seen close up what an involved, but not meddling owner open to a rebuild, a gm who is exactly on the same page and a perfect fit personality type wise and a really solid fanbase can do (yeah we can be negative as fans, but not really...we want to tinker and think we know better, but just because we care. It's part of what makes us such an awesome fanbase...that we can recognize the oline in a store by name).

The chargers for sure do not have the owner or fans, and who knows on the gm...yeah they played together in high school, but I've played sports with plenty of people who I would not want to work that closely with, or them with me, and they might be a super close friend, just not a good match to work with in a crazy high pressure environment.

No idea if that's the case, but Daboll is looking to win super bowls as a head coach, at least he damn better be with his resume, and that takes those three things being in place...just like a good foundation is needed to develop a player, it's needed to develop a coach, team and culture.

Is Star + a healthier Horrible Harry that far gone that we need another space eater?  To quote Joni Mitchell "Ya don't know what ya got til it's gone".

Eh star is ANOTHER year older and hasn't played in a year....  not a gamble Im willing to bet on. Harry WILL be much better next year...you can see a huge difference from the beginning of the year... just take time to recover from the knee

The back-to-back superbowl wins for Daboll will look great on his resume 😎

I could see that going two ways for Star:  being off a year might completely heal him from any nagging injuries he had and completely reenergize him; or if he didnt stay in shape it will probably accelerate his decline. We’ll see.

Star is a McBeane guy.  They brought him here.  Treated him well when he opted out [his ancestry doesn't do well with rare diseases].  Uncommon stout size.  Changes a lot of game plans. Hope he returns close to his former self.

Weis said this morning, and he and Reid go way back that Reid called the Henne 3rd and 4th down plays, including the pass on 4th and 2.

Hopefully he learns how to scheme run plays in the offseason.

Hate to break it to people, but its not the players that are the issue in the run game, its the boring schemes.  Can't remember the last time I seen a lineman pull, and that is the easiest way to create a mismatch in the run game.  Richie's pancake specialty while with Roman/Lynn.  Would love to bring in Lynn as a run game specialist, but I'm sure he will have better offers.  Lots of times the O line coach will work on scheming run plays, but unfortunately our O line coach looks like his background is in passing too.

I don't know, maybe I'm wrong, but I have to say, I'm not exactly sure why so many posters are overly-concerned with the run game. Or think that Daboll can't scheme a run game. We have been a pass-happy team all year and we are 15-3 (a hail Mary away from 16-2). Whatever they have been doing, has been working. And at least during the regular season, when they called on it (the first New England game, the 4-minute drive to close out, was it the Chargers game?, the Denver game) the run game has shown up. And in games where the going may have been tough early on---specifically when we have played good defenses: Pitt, Indy, Balt---well, I think Daboll had confidence in his ability to make adjustments, and he trusts his players to get it done. We went into those games with passing game plans. If you all of a sudden scrap your game plan for a run-heavy offense, well you didn't practice all of those plays all week, so what will the execution be like? Better to be patient, stick to your game plan, but make the necessary adjustments (as they have done).

In general, the run is there to keep the defense honest. It is not the engine of this machine, the passing game is. Think about where Daboll came from. How many years were the Patriots considered a good running team? Maybe 2 or 3 seasons over their 20-year championship run. Brady and the passing game were more efficient than a run game.

I'm not saying to ignore the run game altogether, of course, balance is important, but that just isn't who this team is. It's not because they couldn't do it if they focused on doing it. It's just the passing game is how they are built and what they are best at.

And as far as Daboll not being able to scheme a run game, well in 2019, the Bills were 8th in rushing yards and tied for 13th in yards/carry at 4.4; and in 2018, the Bills were 9th in rushing yards and tied for 7th with 4.2 yards/carry (of course that includes Josh running). But, it's not like he can't scheme a decent run game.

Yes, there have been times this season when it would have been nice if the run game produced more, but whoever was back there, it was always going to be a compliment to the passing game, not a focus.

And at 15-3 and a berth in the AFC Championship Game, I'm just not so sure that the mediocre run game is that big of a concern. We ain't beating the Chiefs or Packers with a run game.

YEAH

Good to hear from you Deep Voice. Absolutely one of my favorite posters on this board! Your posts are always so timely that they crack me up.

And selfishly I'm glad that Daboll is staying and that Josh will have one more year with him. Hopefully the perfect position will open up for him in the future. But right now, he is right where he should be. I mean the guy was born in Ontario, Canada, grew up and went to high school in the Buffalo area, and went to college in Rochester. And he's doing a hell of a job for his hometown team.

Only time they had good running game IMO was Antowain Smith who ironically was drafted by Bills.
