Actually with the golden parachute Marroon got, I think he should be sending the Pegulas a really nice fruit basket every Christmas.

He got a nice check, but if he stayed and was successful, he would have got an extension. The real money is made by being a coach for a decade plus. His next job will not be an NFL head coach and he will forever have the “re-tread” label moving forward.

Hard to be successful with Doug “Pornhub” Whaley as your GM

Some desperate SEC or Big 12 school will over pay for him.

I was happy he decided to quit, he stunk, I never liked that hire or the process the Bills took in interviewing.

We were promised a “no stone unturned” search, and what we got was 5-days in Arizona from Bills brass interviewing: Whisenhunt (fired), Lovie Smith (fired), Mike McCoy, Chip Kelly (courtesy interview) and Doug Marrone.

He was trumpeted as a fellow New Yorker (Bronx vs Buffalo) and instead punted from the Pittsburgh 36-yard line down by 2-scores in the 4th quarter with a 3-5 record. Obsessed with punting and playing field position.

Like it or not Marrone is a solid coach. He was a play away from taking the Jags to the Super Bowl with freakin Bortles.

That's because that defense was stacked.  Then it fell apart.

Did we ever get a legitimate reason why he opted out? Was it just for the money or did he have issues with the front office?

pretty sure he had a contentious relationship with Whaley. Can’t really blame him for that either.

His team almost made the Super Bowl because it had a good defense? Is that supposed to discredit him as a coach?

I wonder how Marrone would be viewed if the Andy Dalton miracle had happened in 2014 and his 9-7 Bills squad snuck into the playoffs to end the drought instead of Mcdermott's 9-7 Bills team in 2017.

St. Doug is still a punk for quitting on the Bills like he did, but people in this thread going on and on about him being a terrible coach are just wrong.

Well, since he's an offensive coach...

Same with me, but I was on the fence about Marrone.  There was a narrative in the media that his game management and conservative nature was killing the team.  Looking back it’s hard to dispute that.

Still a winning record at 9-7, even though it meant losing to a 2-12 Raider team that killed their chance at the playoffs, seemed like a huge accomplishment.

I thought we had traded up when they hired Rex a few days later🙄🙄🙄

Kinda makes you question his judgment. Doug didn’t realize he was gonna be working for the best owners in the NFL. 😎

He wasn’t a terrible coach and was easily the best coach of The Drought (not saying much). I’d say he was pretty mediocre.

The biggest thing that continues to plague his success is his conservative nature.  We saw this in Buffalo when he elected to punt close to FG range.  You can argue he cost JAX a super bowl appearance
