Week 8: Patriots at Bills

YoloinOhio

Recommended Posts

I put this in another thread, but it seems appropriate here:

Here's the fear, on paper, yes, this game should be all Bills. BUT, remember the last time the Bills were set up for an easy win? Against the team that had not practiced in 10 days, was missing several starters to COVID, the team being questioned by everyone in the league. Yeah, the Bills were being picked by everyone to walk all over them. Oh yeah, that was just three weeks ago. . . . NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, take a game or an NFL team for granted.

Same with the home Eagles game last year.  Philly was getting bashed in the media, poor coaching, poor QB play, bad defense, losing record ...and they come in to a crappy weather game in Orchard Park (like tomorrow) and whoop the Bills.  This is a game that Allen and McDermott need to shine.

Your last sentence is as true as can be. However, the similarities between the TEN and NE games end there. You can make the argument about injuries, CoVID and all that jazz but in reality: one team has talent and success on both sides of the ball this season while the other does not.

They must NOT take this game lightly, because those NE players aren’t high schoolers and their coach isn’t a rookie. It is always a threat.

That being said, a loss to NE would be crushing, where as the TEN loss was but a speed bump.

Yes, if I had to pick one, I guess to me it’s more important Allen shine.

If the Bills lose to a well coached team with under preforming players, opt outs, injuries, and a change at QB this year it will sure bring a lot of people back to same old Bills.

Josh Allen needs  the Buffalo Bills need to show up.

FIFY.  There are 11 guys on each side of the ball.  Allen has shown he WILL try to do it all if he must, but that usually ends kind poorly.

The thing that will be especially excruciating with this game is if we play terribly and give new life to the Cheaters and they turn around their season.  We have a chance to really stick a dagger into them as it relates to their season prospects

I like the fix-it’s pretty crazy how the narrative of Josh needing to show up has changed so quickly. His bad games this year (Tennessee and KC) would have been considered fine last year. To me this game is more about the other guys on the field-offense, defense (especially the defense), and special teams. I’m actually not too concerned about Josh, I think he will be fine

People are underestimating the Bills Culture. People are underestimating this Bills team. Yes, we know they will until we claim it....and that starts Sunday. I know we didn't look great in the last 3 weeks, but this team has changed. I'm confident in them, confident in the players, the coaches...confident in the focus and preparation. I know we all think the Pats focused media coverage is ok, because its the norm, we're used to it...used to disappointment, and used to these Pats putting us back in our place. Not this goddamn year.

I agree this is a huge game for the Bills.

There's been a lot about Cam Newton this week. His foppish Zooms and pressers, his pouting on the sideline, etc. I'm a Gator fan, and I can't stress how much I've always disliked Cam. He's an anti-patriot, and the Pats culture is in complete disarray.  There's not much about our QB. Not much about Josh's work ethic, or how the team loves him, how he exudes our own growing culture, and how both he and this team fight till the end.

This game is about putting a bully in his place and putting down someone who has beat on us for years. The Pats are not our "Big Brother"... I hate that damn analogy. No, the Pats are a bully who've bossed us around and kept us in our place at the bottom for years and years. This is our time. The notion that this is a bigger game for the Pats because their lousy team, bereft of talent,  (we have better players at nearly every slot) is more desperate than us is an insult. I hope this makes the Bills even madder, and focused.

Go get them Bills...go take your rightful place as the best team in the division. We already are that, now go show it to these jerks.

Go show everyone the Pats and Bills don't belong in the same sentence together. Because in 2020 ... they don't.

Go get 'em boys. WIsh we could be there.

Will he take what the defense give him?  If he sets his mind to do that, Yes, I agree.

I love Josh.  I do worry he gets caught up a bit in the Media Hype Train at times - "ooooooh how does it feel to be playing against PATRICK MAHOMES the WORLD CHAMPION and actually have the conversation about how you BELONG there?"   (similar with Brady last year)  I mean, Jeebus, he's not playing the other team's damned QB.

Sometimes I wish Josh would bite the reporters - just a LEETLE bit.  A little nip of sarcasm.  Tell 'em he plans to hand off or check down on every down.  Tell 'em he's focused on the KC defense which is excellent and he's not going to take any questions about the offense.

Hope you're right but I fear their coaches more than ours to game plan. I think we're the better team but weather may neutralize that and their coach is a master at game planning against the other teams weaknesses.

I agree with you Ha but we know that the defense is sadly. I hope they keep working and figure it out. My main point is that the team needs JA to lead the offense to TDs and not Tyler Bass attempts. There is no Brady & co. anymore but until we stick it to that franchise it feels like the same game from the last 20 years.

Agreed.

Josh is the least of our worries

He can’t throw and catch the ball downfield now can he?

If a ball hits a WR on the hands he’s supposed to catch it.

When wide open for a sure TD, don’t stumble and fall.

I think it feels that way to the fans, but hopefully the players have more sense of perspective.  On paper and trying to be objective and take the BBFS "oooooh, the Patriots!" out of it, it's a matchup in which it looks as though our offensive strength may be neutralized by weather, and the other team's strengths may match up against our weakness (and vice versa).

We need JA to take what the D gives him - nothing more, nothing less.  JA can't "lead the team to TDs" if the Turf Monster trips the TE who has a clear shot at the goal line or the TD pass he throws is called back for "illegal formation", or penalties shove us into a down-and-distance hole.

Allen can continue to improve at identifying opportunities - finding the open man (he had some shots he didn't take) and of course, try to hang onto the rock better when sacked (though that has to be tough)
