Magic how this account is always a few minutes slow.

They know nothing.

I would have given Ebron that $$ and cut Kroft and "False start"

yeah I have a feeling Big Ben wont be the same this year...

He wasn't the same last year, BEFORE he destroyed his arm. He looked pathetic in his brief few quarters

IMO people talking about this guy like he'll be capable of anything are purely leaning on his name

Wasn’t expecting much at TE.... they seem fine with the lackluster crew they got now.

Love the Diggs trade, but really hope they do more.....

Ebron for 2/12 million should have been a chip shot.  Instead:   "let's see what (6 year veteran) Kroft's got".

My favorite tight end out there is Nick Vannett. He can block, he’s huge, and he has some pass catching skills. I think there is some potential still there as a former third rounder.

All he would be doing is upgrading depth. He isn’t looking for starters at those positions.

So maybe he brings in a Greg Van Roten or a Nick Vannett, but those guys would be coming in to compete. There are no upgrades to our starters at those positions out there in my opinion.

Pittsburgh just traded for Womley too.

Big Ben redid his contract to free up money.

He has a 41 million cap hit next year.

Pitt is all in with Ben for 1 more year!

Pittsburgh has restructured multiple contracts in the last week or so - it's what they do to keep the band together. Been doing it for years. They never really replaced Jesse James so I guess this is the answer for them. Ben has recently said his arm feels better now that he's started throwing again than it has for the last few years, but we'll see how it goes in the fall. I think they will be in the mix for a playoff spot but I don't think they will get the first or second seed in the playoffs in 2020.

Not starters at RT or TE?

Why?

I just think they believe in Ford and Knox. I think those guys are their starters and if anything they would look for competition. I think the Olsen thing was a special case and he would have replaced Kroft. They believe in their draft picks, which they should.

15 minutes ago, Artem Lipatov said:

There were Bulaga, Conklin and so on at OL this free agency

Ebron is upgrage of Kroft, isn't he?

I suppose they could have pursued those guys, and maybe they did. Those guys are clearly better than Ford right now, but i just don’t think it ever makes sense to dump a boatload of cash into the RT position. Its debatable whether or not any guys left on the market are better than Ford.

On the tight end situation, it really depends on what you are looking for. If you want a complete in line tight end who can do a lot of things Kroft is better. If you want a receiving tight end who is an athletic freak, then Ebron is better. For what we do offensively and the fact that we have Knox, Kroft is better in my opinion.

Did you really wanna see us overpay for someone like the jets did with George Fant? I see us addressing offense in the draft

I guess... Knox has potential but Jesus Christ, dude had a 20% drop rate. That’s ridiculous to rely on him as a starter.

I hear that. I just think Knox is super raw as a receiver and blocker, but he definitely has upside. He needs a strong offseason (current status in the world isn’t helping) but I think his drops were mostly a kid trying to do too much and being amped up. He tried to turn and run with the ball way too often.

Knox was a high school quarterback who was hurt his senior year and sat out. Then walked on at Ole Miss, redshirted and only played in 18 college games. He is a true work in progress. He needs to take a big step up and find consistency, but I do think he is already better than a good number of tight ends in the league.

I thought we're in win now mode. Window with rookie QB contract bla bla. Give Allen best OL and weapons you can now. Waiting when/if Ford and Knox develop to be good starters is losing this season.

I am not a specialist in assesing OL talent. But all last season guys here told  Spain is weak link of our OL. But he gets renewal.

Can we find some real OL upgrade in late picks of 2nd and 3rd round of draft?

I’m sure they’re will be upgrades in the draft. Overpaying for someone like Fant is how you lose in the season. O line in free agency this year wasn’t that good. Better to get young at the position

The site I saw said 12%.  The same site said Ebron was at 9.6% last year.

It just isn’t that easy. Offensive linemen are so hard to find and there is a huge fail rate. Free agency is littered with failed first rounders like Germaine Ifedi each year. There are no dream team situations, unless you want to wind up like the Rams. The Bills are doing this the right way, a good mix of solid veterans, game breaking young players, and developing players. There is a good chance that Conklin gets hurt again with the Browns. There is always risk.

He had 10 drops on 50 targets.... that’s ridiculously bad.

Ebron wasn't much better.  We'll see how this year pans out.  If Knox still has trouble catching the ball, he'll be out of the rotation.

That is a problem that could have been easily solved.

They weren't signing Ebron or any TE for that matter.  It will be the same group as last year, ideally with everyone not named Lee Smith taking a big step foward.

Which compounds this problem....

You can believe in Knox.....and have another guy who will start immediately who will at least as good as Knox right away.    It's allowed to have 2 quality starters at TE on the roster.

Not a big problem.  He dropped 1 pass every 2.7 games. And Ebron isn't the solution to it anyway.

How is doing nothing the solution to a problem?

Drops per game isn't a stat....for a reason.

Knox was a rookie so I'll give him at least this year to see if he improves.  And there are also Kroft and Sweeney.  How is adding a guy with drop problems throughout his career like Ebron a solution?

Point taken. I’m pretty sure Kroft is that guy for them. They signed him to be their starter last year, over a guy like Ebron who was available at the time. Then Kroft got hurt. He was okay when he came back, but aside from Austin Hooper, Kroft is still probably better than any other guys available in free agency. I think Olsen could have been that guy, but obviously he chose another team.

I do really like Cole Kmet and he’s on my short list in the second round, though I don’t think he makes it there.

With Luck in 2018, he caught 13 TDs, doc. He had 9 drops on 110 targets.  You don't think Allen would like a guy like that PLUS whatever becomes of Knox ( a guy who really hasn't been a receiver of passes since high school)?

Ebron is a solid vet, and would immediately be the best TE on this roster in years.  Why argue with that for the cost?  While you're "waiting to see if Knox improves" why wouldn't you also want Ebron there?  It's a strange argument.

No, Kroft got hurt in Cincy, went on IR (after one single career season that rose to adequate/mediocre when he was healthy).  Then he came to Buffalo and immediately re-injured the foot.  Back on IR.

In my business, we call that predictable error.  It is to be avoided.

Outside of that one really good season, he's been an average (what you would call "solid") TE, and really, a disappointment for where he was drafted.  And even during that season he had an 8.2% drop rate.  If you were to take the number of targets he had divided by the number of targets for Knox and multiply that by Knox's receptions and yards, they'd come out similar, except for TD's.  And even last year, on the same number of targets, their numbers were similar.  I don't see the point in adding him and stunting his or Sweeney's growth.

People argued the same thing about the recievers last offseason.... how we were fine at the position.

A lot like to just blindly go with whatever the regime is doing at a certain position....

After making the playoffs twice in their first 3 season, they get the benefit of the doubt.  And I'd say we're fine at the WR position now, wouldn't you?

We are shallow at TE. We don't have any dependable talent that can help carry a game. If wishes and buts were candy and nuts...

Not proven, and not a good situation for a young QB. Sorry but this is a fail.

Hooper should have been our guy.

Is Hooper a TE who can carry a game?  He's a fine player and would have been a good get but his rookie stats were similar to Knox's.  Again, give Knox some time.

1 minute ago, ScottLaw said:

Yes now although I'd argue they need more depth.... but many thought we were fine a year ago.... including McBeane.

Playoffs twice in their first 3 seasons is great. ... still no playoff wins and bad offenses. They get the benefit of the doubt with the defense, with the offense not really.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a team with more depth at WR than the Bills have now.  As for being fine last year, they were...to make the playoffs.  They're addressing the offense.

Knox's drops are not to be trusted.

I said "helped" carry a game. He's a dependable outlet to a young QB on a rookie contract. Knox is unknown and certainly not dependable at this minute.
