Would Cam Newton be a good backup to Josh?

Recommended Posts

It has been mentioned a number of time this off season that the Bills need to upgrade our backup quarterback position.  Would cam Newton be an upgrade?   He and Josh have similar skill sets so the offense does not have to change style of play if Josh gets injured?  Thoughts?

He will want to start and he should get an opportunity. He won't need to settle for a backup position with a small salary.

I mean technically yeah but I don't see him coming here to be a backup or at a price we'd like.

Do you see the bills going strong to upgrade the backup QB this off season?  If so, who would be a good fit?

Seriously?   Do people put any thought whatsoever into topics?

Yes, sign me up for a moody malcontent who thinks he's still a star but is just a mediocre passer who is too old to run because.....uh.....he was the #1 pick in the draft a lifetime ago and played in a Super Bowl once upon a time.

Why does this cancer 💩 come from? His teammates love him.

and there’s no way Newton would ever be a backup to Allen anyways.

He’s still a million times better than Barkley.

I bet they bring competition for Barkley but I doubt they break the bank. Also have to see what shakes loose with this crazy QB carousel this year.

Jameis.  The chairs are filling up.  It looks like he might have to be a back-up somewhere for a year or two.

You’re obviously convinced you’re right and everybody is wrong, as is your modus operandi. For the rest of us unenlightened, it’s useless to engage you in conversation.

Happy hunting.

You might not understand what this team seems to want in a back up.

The role is all about helping Josh Monday through Saturday in the qb room, preparing, watching film, teaching, supporting. Preparing as if playing even though almost never will.

for that role I’d say Cam may be a worse fit.

1) Cam has no interest in being a backup at this point.  If he's healthy, he's earned a shot to start.  If he isn't, he shouldn't be a backup

2) The ego pressure in that QB room would be so intense that Ken Dorsey would have to be rushed to the hypobaric chamber to prevent a bad case of the "Bends"

FIFY.  Oh, wait, you weren't speaking French?  You meant the QB last name Winston?
Seriously - since "taking care of the football" is such a huge deal for McDermott, why does anyone think he'd want Mr Picksomatic waiting in the wings?

Most back up QB's have issues.  That's why they're back ups. Jameis would have more talent than most of them.  Mr. Picksomatic is also Mr. TD Thrower.  He can give a team a chance to win if the starter is out because of his arm talent.   That's all one can ask out of a backup; most backups are a short ride to a loss.  Jameis is also a guy that could potentially be moved down the line whether he plays or not because a QB with starting talent will eventually be needed somewhere in the league.

You’ve heard Cam Newton speak before yes? Or read any of his social media postings in the last 5 years, yes? I get the basic premise of what you’re saying but no. Cam would not accept a backup job to Allen this year. He still considers himself a starter and there are a few starting options still open out there.

To quote Cam Newton himself, " Is you dumb?"

Don't want him anywhere near my QB.

No. All Cam does is talk trash non stop. What could he possibly bring to the table as a backup? He'd be terrible for this team.

Plus, some desperate team is going to kick the tires and make him a starter this year.

Newton has had plenty of teammates and former teammates say bad things about him.

Did you not see how he conducted himself last season during joint practices with the Bills? Dude stands on the sidelines and chirps and chirps and chirps nonstop, talking trash to anyone who will give him a glance. He's so full of himself it's stupid. Wouldn't want him on my team in his prime.

Whenever I think of Newton this play comes to mind.  Not a fan and I wouldn't mind him going to the Patriots.

Is that nickname in reference to his passing abilities, or his shopping abilities?

What are you trying to say? Cam has taken a beating that no other QB would have. Some of it is his fault but there is a bias against him. I don’t even think it is intentional. I liken it to Shaquille O’Neil. They are both so physically dominating it is difficult to officiate fouls against them as they so often are the initiators of the contact. Cam has been a warrior.
