The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

I know it was the weekend and reporting is always down on the weekend but yesterday there wasn’t a single state that reported triple digit Covid deaths. I think that’s the first time I’ve seen that. And 50% of the states reported ZERO deaths on Sunday. It’ll be interesting to see what the numbers look like tomorrow.

I'll go out on a limb and predict that this will not lead to a large uptick in serious cases.

Yep, the age demographic of these people stand about a 1 in 1000 chance of dying even if they did contract it.

I'm gonna be THAT guy and point out another obvious. The streets also would not have been empty if people were not on lockdown during these protests/riots. Stores and restaurants would also have been staffed.

ALL of this; lockdown, shutdowns, crashing the economy, unemployment; will all prove to have been unnecessary if we don't see a huge spike following the last few days.

We are under attack by enemies foreign and domestic. Right after the impeachment collapse, all hell broke loose...starting off the most consequential election year in our lifetimes.

Coronavirus seems so less important now.

Anyway, this seems relevant.

Quote

ROME (Reuters) - The new coronavirus is losing its potency and has become much less lethal, a senior Italian doctor said on Sunday.

“In reality, the virus clinically no longer exists in Italy,” said Alberto Zangrillo, the head of the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan in the northern region of Lombardy, which has borne the brunt of Italy’s coronavirus contagion.

“The swabs that were performed over the last 10 days showed a viral load in quantitative terms that was absolutely infinitesimal compared to the ones carried out a month or two months ago,” he told RAI television.

-snip-

Zangrillo said some experts were too alarmist about the prospect of a second wave of infections and politicians needed to take into account the new reality.

“We’ve got to get back to being a normal country,” he said. “Someone has to take responsibility for terrorizing the country.”

-snip-

A second doctor from northern Italy told the national ANSA news agency that he was also seeing the coronavirus weaken.

“The strength the virus had two months ago is not the same strength it has today,” said Matteo Bassetti, head of the infectious diseases clinic at the San Martino hospital in the city of Genoa.

“It is clear that today the COVID-19 disease is different.”

Absolutely not. He neither contracted nor was cured of or died from the Wuhan virus.
Furthermore he has not yet filed for double blind clinical trials which wouldn’t be completed for three to four years. Clearly he’s jumped the gun on this.

He doesn't count because he's a data scientist and not a health expert :)

He's my patron saint of this pandemic, and I'd like to rekindle the debate that @TPS and I started way back in March on who would ultimately be proven right - Leavitt/Ginn or Pueyo?

Meanwhile....if we're adding 22k new cases a day and it's a 2-3 week disease, doesn't that mean there should be around 400k or so active cases?

Seems like we're missing close to a million people somewhere...

Well we apparently found the cure for Covid 19....rioting and looting! Yesterday, only one state reached the triple digit mark in Covid deaths: Massachusetts. 30 states reported less than 10 deaths, and of those, 10 states reported ZERO deaths. The nationwide death toll was under 1,000 (730) for the first time since I’ve been reporting the daily totals. This story is over!

The timing is just so perfect. Amazing!

It’s a huge strategic mistake by the Left. The virus was a story they had some chance of sticking to Trump. The rioting on the other hand will be forgotten in a week or two and is universally considered a local squabble with local police.

If the lefties lose in November, they are done for years. They will escalate out of desperation for months to come. They have way to much money invested and too much criminal culpability to back off now. Imagine all of this under Hillary Clinton.

I’ll go one more round with you, but I don’t want this to detract from the Covid thread...the American Left has dug their foxholes and loaded their armies on the two coasts. They are unopposed there with essentially one-party rule. Their next strategic move is to march towards the middle of the country and meet there to squeeze the life out of ‘fly over’ country. We’ll have to pray the line can be held!

I am 100% confident that it will hold.

Really?

So it’s ok to get COVID if you are protesting for social justice?

Man, even the health experts are racist.

Yes. You may ignore the orders to wear masks and social distance to fight racism!!  But to have a beer at your local pub?  Hell no!!!

Leveling lately before many of the big cities reopen.

The cities look open to me. All the stores are open too. Hell, some of them don't even have doors or windows anymore. Social distancing is over. It looks like people can even have camp fires in the middle of the street. It looks like a great big celebration that the pandemic is over.

It makes perfect sense. Wearing masks and social distancing supports racism. The whole quarantine was racist and based on white privilege.
