CBSSports: Pats* Miss Playoffs! Bills take AFC East!

As we all know, this is the game that if the Bills win, we're in.  With that said, does that mean we can't do worse than the #5 seed?  If the Pats win this week, then winning the division will be even more difficult.  Obviously we would need to win out and the Pats would have to lose out in order for us to claim that division title, but that may be a pipe dream.  As much as I would love for us to beat the Pats in their own backyard, I think it would be smarter to limit our starters for the final two weeks to provide a little extra rest and provide somewhat of a bye week for the starters.  I see both sides of the spectrum though.  Sometimes, that first round bye is beneficial for obvious reasons with resting the entire team and getting extra time studying your opponent (in our case it wouldn't be a bye but something similar to a bye with resting starters).  But in other situations, I know that building momentum during the final weeks of the season is usually a good recipe for making a strong push into the playoffs.  I know some of you will say "take it one week at a time, let's focus on this game first." Shoot I'm usually one of those guys that says that, but I just want to gauge where everyone's thoughts are on this potential scenario and what you would do as the Coach of this team during the final two weeks if us and the Pats win this week.

[I'm sorry, I know it's not identical, but we had 2 playoff scenario threads started at the same time, so I did merge]

I dont care if they miss the playoffs like this article details, I just want them to lose to either bengals or dolphins and us win out...take the friggin division and get a home playoff game!!!

You have a better chance of seeing the New Jersey Devils win the Stanley Cup this season than you do in seeing the Pats lose the Bengals and Fins.

we cant afford to rest starters on offense. they need all the practice they can get.

Allen is not going to learn anything week 17. If we play starters we should handle them easily, he won't have to do much. You don't risk him getting hurt.

I dont get your reference because I dont care about the new jersey devils

however, while I dont think the Patriots will lose to either the bengals or the dolphins, its any given sunday in the NFL and I wouldnt at all be surprised. The Patriots offense sucks, crazy things happen. I can dream that the division dream isnt dead.

Allen has started less than two full seasons, and is on an offense with 9 new starters. He learns every single week.

I agree we should handle the Jets with our starters in, and injury risk is minimal because he wont have to do much. So you play him, and all the other offensive starters. At least for a half if there is nothing on the line.

Well, it isn't dead. And is still certainly a possibility. Bills have not lost 2 in a row and I don't see it happening now. They rebound really well and IMO it will come down to Bills @ Pats. I think they Bills will beat the Jets week 17.

Also usually losing a wideout or rb won't kill a teams chances, but with what little talent we have at those positions if we lost brown or singletary we would be toast. There is no way you play starters last game if it doesn't matter.

Again it's the Jets, who cares?

NJD are one of the worst teams in hockey. I think only the Red Wings have less points. Bottom line NE isn't losing to  **** teams like the Bengals and Fins. Maybe in 2020 the Bills win the division.

agreed.  All it takes is one douchebag on the Jets’ defense taking out Singletary or Brown’s knees and we’re pretty much screwed.

I think we go to Gilette and beat down the Patriots. But we still need help to win the division, need the Pats to lose to the Bengals or Dolphins still for the dream to come true.

Oh, I thought the Bills would get it as long as they win out with conference wins? Maybe I was wrong then.

If the bills win this week and lose to the pats you rest starters week 17. Otherwise you play them until the end. Simple as that.

Don't forget, the Pats knocked out JA during the first meeting.  Not saying that'll happen again, but we should use caution when playing cheaters.

they should handle cincy especially after a little extra tape on them but fitz and the fins could surprise and beat them?

It's just possible that Cincy gets an extra "Mad" on them, works overtime to change up their signals, and plays with some fire in their belly to handle the Pats.

Andy Dalton must have a boulder-size chip on his shoulder at this point.

We absolutely should.  Allen must be prepared for this.

Oh, well damn. Alright, well yeah maybe Fitz can pull one of his ass for us then.  Anyways, it's still a possibility so that's what I'm hoping for as well.

I'm quite certain Fitzy and the Fins would like nothing more.

Who knows.  I think Fitz would love nothing more than to play a part in de-throning the Pats as AFC East champs.

Remember Fitz, we gave you your first big contract.  Please help us out.  You need to be our Dalton this year.

I honestly think there is a higher probability that the Pats lose two of the next three than we all think. The Pats are weakening as the season goes along. Every team in the league wants to beat the Pats,  product of them winning so many games for so long.

If the Bills win out, they win the division. That’s my prediction.

I just can't understand people talking about the Pats game....Pittsburgh is no joke and we play them on the road.

I agree.  I am trying (and succeeding) to keep my hands off, but all these playoff threads make me incredibly uncomfortable as a fan.

One game at a time.  Just freakin' beat Pittsburgh.

The following is a  really pessimistic outlook but given the Bills' history I don't think we can say its totally impossible. I think even if the Bills lose to the steelers and pats they probably still beat the jets.

So my question as a life long disappointed Bills' fan is can the Bills still make the playoffs if they lose the next 3? Just curious as I think that happening has to be less than my chances of winning Mega Millions.

I'm with you.  That's why I said in my opening thread that i'm usually saying take it one game at a time.  But sometimes it's hard not to look ahead.  As a fan, our minds are always on "what if" mode.

It all boils down to 3 teams.  Steelers, Texans, and Titans.  Texans or Titans will win their division.  We hold the tie-breaker over the Titans, but they could still finish with 10 wins, so it won't matter.  If Titans win their division and we tie with the Texans, i'm not sure who gets in.  I'm not looking it up.

try looking in the thread  -  2019 Playoff Scenarios. Buffalo #5 Seed, 95% to make it, 1 more win will clinch. AFCE Crown is still in play

It's been detailed there

The chances of it happening are SLIM to NONE

they were talking about this in sirius nfl this morning.  if the bills win out, and the pats win out other than the loss to the bills, the pats still win the east.  apparently is has to do with the loss to the eagles.
