RD 5, Pick 154: Siran Neal S - Jacksonville state

Recommended Posts

We're not going to be just a good defense, we are going to be intimidating to play. Thank God we have a head coach/DC who understand that aggressive tackling is the most important part of playing defense. It's the difference between being bad and good or between good and great.

Nice pick...after watching his highlights: good tackler, hard hitter, can play gunner on teams, but what I liked the most is that it looks like he has football smarts.

He dissects plays really quickly, which more than makes up for any lack of speed. He beats blocks to the spot, covers the right man, runs the interior routes for the WRs.

I know they are only highlights, but looks good to me!

If he put on 14-15lbs though he could start alongside Milano and Edmunds. Maybe they keep him at safety, I don't know but he is such a punishing tackler that I could see him making the switch to linebacker.

What about 13 or 16? How exact is this science?!? ?

Interesting Hybrid type player. They are trying to stack the D.

Couldn't be happier. Lots of cash for offensive free agents next year, plus all of our draft picks. I don't like us for 2019, but we'll be a force in 2020.

Agree. I hope 2019 will be our year. There is going to be so much cash on hand for FA next year no doubt, sky is the limit. I expect great things next year and can't wait to watch the team chemistry develop this year on.

my 2nd least favorite pick this draft at a gut level. Who? What is his position? What does he bring? Doesn't seem to have a position.

Then I thought about B Scott, and Coy Wire and Kam Chancellor. Versatile DB/LB hybrids.

Then I watched highlights, now I get it. This is a chess piece that loves to knock people's blocks off.

He can be a 3rd DB in a dime, or a 2nd LB in a nickel with Edmunds. A luxury pick if you will.

Haven't seen that in a while. Last big hitters among the DBs I recall were S Leanord Johnson, Winfield, Whitner and A Will.

Has the versatility of Wire/Scott with the nasty of Johnson and such.

Cool to bring the nasty. With Star/Phillips/Edmunds/Poyer and Neal the middle will be a place other teams will not want to test.

I think that 3 game stretch centered with New Orleans gave McDermott nightmares. He wanted hitters and to stiffen the middle of the defense.

I get the pick now. Specialist and a nasty attitude chess piece. I like it.

Every good Defense needs a few technicians, a few psychopaths and a few filler guys in the right positions. This is a Psycopath, so is Poyer, while Hyde and Tre are technicians. I get it.
