So if I hit on 18 in blackjack against a dealer 6, and I pull a 3, was it the right decision?

Of course not. That's why McDermott punted.   ? But on a personal note, I've been at tables with guys who do that crap and it makes me insane.

Seriously though, if that's the analogy, this is a 16 against a face card.  I think it was the right call and so did McDermott.  Does it look bad if the Bills lose?  Of course.  Does it look bad if Tolbert slips and loses 3 yards on 4th and 1?  Sure.  No clear cut decision but I'm willing to bet the math was pretty close to 50/50 there.

TOP 5 GRADES:

RB LeSean McCoy88.9 overall grade

LB Preston Brown83.4 overall grade

Jordan Poyer82.4 overall grade

LB Matt Milano81.2 overall grade

Micah Hyde80.4 overall grade

PERFORMANCES OF NOTE:

RB LESEAN MCCOY88.9 OVERALL GRADE

McCoy took over the game towards the end of the second quarter and became a one-man offense for the Bills against the Colts. His offensive line struggled to move defenders around in the snow as he averaged just 0.56 yards before contact. However, McCoy averaged 4.31 yards after contact and broke eight tackles on his 32 carries, including one forced missed tackle on his game-winning touchdown in overtime.

QB NATHAN PETERMAN75.7 OVERALL GRADE

Despite the conditions, Peterman had a solid game before exiting the contest with an apparent injury. While he attempted just nine passes, the Buffalo quarterback was on target with all of his attempts only to see his receivers drop three passes in the snowy weather and the Colts defenders break up a fourth one. Peterman also showed poise and good accuracy on the last drive of the first half, which ended in an eight-yard touchdown pass to Kelvin Benjamin.

LB PRESTON BROWN83.4 OVERALL GRADE

Over the course of the game, we saw offensive linemen struggle to stay on their feet at the second level, which isn’t overly surprising given the conditions. This left linebackers free to make plays, and that’s exactly what Brown did. He racked up six tackles, all of them resulting in a defensive stop on the play.

JORDAN POYER82.4 OVERALL GRADE

Poyer is enjoying a career year in Buffalo, and that continued with another solid performance today. Obviously with the snow making life difficult for the opposing offense, not much was asked of him in coverage, but he still made an imapct there and against the run, with all three of his tackles resulting in a defensive stop.

The rest of your post is moot because it hinges on what is left to be determined.

TOP 3 THINGS WE LEARNED FROM BILLS-COLTS

Buffalo 13-7 (OT) over Indianapolis

IND.png Colts: C

The fact that the Colts scored any points in this game was basically a miracle considering the blizzard-like conditions. Even though the Colts lost in Buffalo, Frank Gore should probably win some sort of award this week for what he was asked to do on Sunday. Gore, 34, carried the ball 36 times for 130 yards, which has never been done before by a player his age. Since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970, no player 34 or older had ever carried he ball more than 33 times in a game.

LeSean McCoy must be part eskimo because he had no problem running through the blizzard that was falling in Buffalo. With Nathan Peterman under center, the Bills did the smart thing and decided to have McCoy carry the ball as often as possible in this game, which translated to 32 carries for 156 yards and a touchdown for McCoy. Shady's biggest run came in overtime when he scored the game-winning touchdown from 21 yards out. The 32 carries for McCoy was a career-high for the veteran, who's been in the NFL since 2009.

I wish I knew how to do that haze effect.  I use photoshop/gimp like once a year so I always forget the simple things.

I stole that from the FB post from Buffalo Bills official.  I bet they got the idea from you.

yeah, scoreboard - woo hoo! We beat the Colts! In a mostly meangingless game. If McD had gone for it, and the Bills didn't get the first down, I'd actually be happier than I am now. It would tell me we had a keeper. A coach who knows when to go for it and win the damn game. And I'll be looking forward to next year.

How do you think that same situation would go against the Pats or the Steelers or the Seahawks?

One rule of thumb in football is this: if the opposing team is about to do something that makes you feel relieved, then it's the wrong decision. What do you think Colts fans were thinking when McD chose to punt? "Holy crap! He's giving us a chance to win without going for it! Yay punt!" Do you think any Colts fan wanted to see the Bills go for it there?

Hell no.

One thing I will never understand about coaches who "punt it and count on our defense to get a stop," is:

If you're so confident in your defense, why not go for it in the first place, and then if you don't get it, count on them to stop the other team?

I said mostly meaningless. Way to go at the one thing in my post that you can argue with. If you think the Bills are going to make the playoffs this year, I have some swamp land to sell you.

Someone needs to find the bbmb portal so this guy can go back.

First he tells us Tyrods a franchise top 10 qb now this ???

The Buffalo Bills came away with a 13-7 overtime victory over the Indianapolis Colts, but now have a compelling decision to make if both players are healthy... who do they start, Tyrod Taylor, or Nathan Peterman? 7ABC's Joe Buscaglia and Matthew Fairburn of NYUpstate.com discuss that, Sean McDermott's decision to punt in overtime, and the craziness of the game being called the Bills "snowvertime" win.

Incognito was one of the few brilliant things Rex did for us.

True dat......but one thing that doesnt get mentioned is bringing in TT....sure he's not JP or Edwards bad....but he's not going to get you where you want to go.   Much like Wrex and his incompetent brother.   TT was a Rex idea......its regressed any offensive development for 3 years.

Schopp was pathetic on the after show today.

Was arguing with a caller he had obviously taped before hand. Played some of the guy then argued then played something else from the guy then argued it was a poor attempt and sounded fake at trying to push his argumentative agenda.

I don’t know AFL - I was shocked they did not call him for holding.  Could not see it at the game, but watching it on the TV when we got home - that call has gone against him all year and probably should have this time also.
