Any way you slice it Kaepernick represents good value

Recommended Posts

So about that value.... what price tag would folks consider him at?

I see some hard no answers out there.

Anyone in at 2 years 4-5m? That's the Blaine gabbert, Matt cassel, Matt Barkley, Brandon wheeden, Derek Anderson type of range

Anyone thinks he gets premium backup pay?

I'd do that deal.

the value i look at first is years. no way he wants anything less than 2 years. no way anyone wants him for more than 1. if i had the checkbook to the Bills, being that he has starter experience i cannot overlook, i think he can surpass those you mentioned on his past merits alone. i would venture 2 years at $6mm/yr with a lot of that bonus and incentives, possibly to go higher.

realistically, he will likely go for $4mm 2 years or $5mm for one year with guarantees and incentives to push him toward $7mm. he will need those incentives to sign.

i know quite decent amount about diets. you're not a professional athlete. his protein number should be well over 130 grams of protein a day. i'm only guessing his weight to be 210-215

"Per police encounter" is very operative here. I wish we could just move this thread to PPP

there is already a thread on ppp discussing this at nauseous-em

Sad thing is this topic should not be a PPP topic as it was directly a football question about a football player. But its impossible on TSW to discuss Kap and it not go straight into political talk because people are still so over heated over something that shouldn't have even been a big deal in the first place, nor was he even the first to do something of that nature. But media sensationalized it for clicks and ratings, and now its a topic that draws so much nonsense and fury that its ridiculous.

As a football only question, he absolutely should get a shot to make a roster as either a starter or backup depending on the needs of who signs him. People forget that SF went from an ascending SB contending team to a team devoid of talent on both sides of the ball in record time. Basically had probably the single worst offseason in NFL history followed by a 2nd horrendous offseason to basically make it one of the least talented rosters in the NFL. Kaps career followed the same arc as the team did and he was saddled with a bad roster and he severely regressed.

So there is going to be some GM out there that is going to want to see if there is any of that potential he once flashed not that long ago before that roster utterly collapsed. Not saying he will revive his fallen star, but someone will kick the tires and see what is there. And from a football sense, he fits the offense Buffalo will run around Tyrod, so while I don't expect us to sign, I would get it if they did to come in and compete with Cardale.

PS: Funny thing is...everyone here at TSW was having a tantrum that we didn't draft Kap when he led to SF to the Super Bowl and we were a joke of a franchise for passing on him and that is why SF has all those SB's. Wonder how many of those people are going to step up and eat that crow?

i wasn't. i didn't want dalton either.

quite a few didn't want him. it was a very strange debate about who wanted him and who didn't. people swearing he was going to be the next big thing in the league and he was for a season but thats it.

Can't endorse this guy at all.

Another RB impersonating a QB. No ability to read a defense, poor touch, little to no awareness. And on top of it all...he's a nightmare PR wise.

He's not worth the trouble.

Bingo.

He's not worth the PR hassle because as a QB he sucks. If he was Derek Carr and was a PR hassle, he'd be worth it.

You don't buy PR hassles for a bad back-up QB. Too bad this dope didn't understand that before he voided his contract.

Although he may be a decent backup to have and an upgrade over our last one. It is not worth the press distraction.

I do not see Kaep as having good character or leadership ability. The stance he took is debatable, but the fact that he suddenly changed his tune and decides to stop the stance shortly before free agency came,is suspicious timing. That is the primary reason for my opinion on him.

Name aside, I believe that Buffalo is better off with a draft pick and Cardale behind Tyrod.

Lol why so angry, Scooter?

Kap is a young man in his 20s, trying to figure things out. Is he right all of the time? Of course not. but he's trying. Go google him right and see what he's doing...raising money for charity and actually doing things for other people in need.

But hey, keep shouting "'MURICA!" and "love it or leave it" if it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. Because God knows standing for the Nationa Anthem at a !@#$ing football game is what makes this country great.

Ah yes, the 29 1/2 year old multi millionaire who's just barely out of puberty, right? He just needs to 'figure things out'. Hilarious.

And never mind the fact he sucks at his job, which is the whole point. If he could play QB I wouldn't care if he took a **** at the 50 yard line during the National Anthem.

  • Super Bowl experience
  • great wheels
  • still in his prime

Politics aside the guy can still play and yes I was at the 49ers game last year. This would be a no risk acquisition with all upside and I would support it.

There are a ton of folks who get paid to evaluate players for a living who believe Kaep is all but done...His best season for completion % was 2012 where he "capped out" at 62.4%...He's a career 59.8% passer...

He's not good enough...He's a vet so it's more money than developing a young QB...There are more than a few FO's who would not touch him due to the political stuff...

He may be done in the NFL...Maybe not...But if he was a better, smarter, player he'd be signed already... B-)

I have the utmost respect for his silent protest.

I was all for Kaep replacing Tyrod. He's a smarter, more athletic QB who has actually achieved something in the NFL.

But that ship has sailed. I hope Kaep finds a home and kicks some serious ass. He's worked harder for it than most people work.

I know when he was with the 49ers there was some questions as to how much work he was putting in to certain areas, like how much he was studying the playbook and stuff like that.

Bill Romanowski talked about how Gabbert using tablet 4-5x more for film study when he was backup and Kaepernick was the starter (supposedly it was leaked by the team) -

http://www.ninersnation.com/2015/11/27/9798870/bill-romanowski-colin-kaepernick-rumor-ipad

Steve Young has hinted at it -

http://www.sfchronicle.com/49ers/article/Steve-Young-on-49ers-Kaepernick-Onus-on-QB-to-6785052.php?t=6c617bb8a57d4f3860&cmpid=twitter-premium

Michael Crabtree mentioned something about it -

http://thebiglead.com/2016/02/05/michael-crabtree-summed-up-colin-kaepernicks-demise-as-well-as-anyone/

I also remember reading some questioning how dedicated he still was to football - something about how he had really changed over the last couple years and seemed to be more focused on other things outside football, or something like that.

I have no idea if any of that is true or not, but it does kind of make me wonder if it possibly had anything to do with his regression.

He'd be a fine backup, but I don't see us signing a guy, I have a feeling we'll be drafting someone and letting them and Cardale battle it out for #2.

As far as his politics, it doesn't bother me. Rex helped Trump, it's not really any different imo. Their politics are their own, and as long as their employer is ok with what they do during the game, then I don't care either.

the implosion when we sign an Orton and draft a CB or safety in the first...can't wait!

Honestly I figured we were going to re-sign EJ

Kaepernick has the right to protest, speak out and kneel during the anthem if he wants. That freedom is one of the things that makes America great.

But it is a two-way street. And NFL owners/general managers also have a freedom to run their business as they see fit.

Many people view Kaepernick's actions as disrespectful, and want no part of it. There are some people that have completely stopped watching the NFL, simply because of Kaepernick's actions and the other players who decided to follow him. Every time a discussion comes up about the NFL's ratings drop last year, the conversation inevitably comes back to this issue. So I can guarantee that whatever team signs Kaepernick will lose some fans and ticket sales because of it. It's a public relations nightmare for a QB that isn't going to make the on-field product much better.

I hope we sign him just because of people like this.

Why is it OK for Kaepernick to speak out for what he believes in...

... but then it is racist/hateful for anyone who disagrees to speak out in return?

Colin Kaepernick, the 49ers quarterback whose refusal to stand for the national anthem has rocked the NFL and ignited a fierce debate about patriotism, free speech and the American flag, says he has received death threats since he began his protest last month.

I do have an issue with his diet/conditioning and dedication to the game, which I find lacking. He fell off the tracks with no Jim Harbaugh around and the Bills already have their hands full with Dareus.

Uh, no. Obviously I don't mean death threats.

I'm referring to the celebrities (such as Spike Lee), who imply that racism is behind Kaepernick not getting signed. And anyone who disagrees with that point of view is a hateful bigot.

Like I said in an earlier post. Kaepernick has the right to say and do what he wants. But now he has to face the repercussions of his actions. Many fans, coaches, owners and players consider what he did to be disrespectful to the country. It's not surprising that nobody wants to hire him.

You can disagree with Kaepernick and not be a racist. Some of these people are just what George Carlin would call the "symbol-minded".

"I don't get all choked up about yellow ribbons and American flags. I consider them to be symbols and I leave symbols to the symbol minded." George Carlin

The problem is the anti-Kaepernick crowd who are overt racists or who call him for him to die because he made a point they disagree with.

I think salon or CNN has more fluffy articles. Try them next time.

Your point is invalid. The dixie chicks, priests in the catholic religion, the pope, the president... all get death threats. Ima bet those were all race too.

Not all people who disagree or hate on others are racist. Your anecdotal evidence that someone called him a racist name does not speak for the general population any more than saying that cops killed unarmed, non violent and innocent folks without cause because it has happened before.

Your argument, the guardians argument is tired, reckless and irresponsible.

let me rephraee what you're saying. "I don't understand life, logic and complex issues or thought. Those that disagree with my primitive sentiments are racist, sexist, bigots, etc."

I think that fits your nonsense much better. But stop calling everyone racist because you're not capable of understanding a situation.

The George Carlin quote speaks for itself. Your interpretation of it shows you have no idea what he is saying.

Didn't say anything about racist or hateful.

I feel if you get offended over things that have no impact on your life than you deserve to be offended.

Most people that hate kaep blindly do it because they think he's attacking the vets but he's not. It's about how the police treat minorities but like someone said above its the symbol minded people.

that doesn't mean that everyone who dislikes him, doesn't want him signed or thinks he is a bad qb his a racist. Which is what you are saying.

Not everyone who disagrees with you is racist. Not everyone who disagrees with wgr's talking asshats, or the guardian or spike Lee or chum Lee or the general Lee is a racist.

It is disgusting that do many people cast about such insults because someone disagrees with them. Its SLPC level of vile.

He was falling off the tracks even with Harbaugh...the more games he played the less effective he was. Clear indication he has a single skillset that teams can take away once they had enough tape and he hasn't been able to adjust. He might be good for spot duty if your starter gets hurt and he has to come into the game with a team that has no preparation for him that week, other than that, if a team prepares for him, I have little faith the results will be any better than what we have seen over the past season and a half or two seasons.

that doesn't mean that everyone who dislikes him, doesn't want him signed or thinks he is a bad qb his a racist.

Chum Lee hahaha

He was falling off the tracks even with Harbaugh...the more games he played the less effective he was. as backup qbs go, his stat line (outside of W-L) was about all you could expect. his completion percentage was a little higher than 2013, his TD percentage essentially in line (slight drop), better INT percentage. Lower YPA which is big

his rushing stats had more YPG, YPC... fewer TD, but the same fumbles.

the talent around him went down and he isnt a guy that can carry a team but id imagine he can be a fine backup. most arent very good.

you attempted to show that because he has received death threats that these against him are racist. At least the article you sourced and specifically quoted pointed that out.

Gosh you're not doing very good at your own reading material.

No, I spelled out what I thought. But will do so again.

Many dislike Kapernick for various reasons.

Some because they just want to watch football.

Some because they think America is already perfect and needs no changes or reforms.

Some because they feel any criticism of society is criticism of them.

And then, unfortunately there are the real racists who decided to attack Kaepernick and threaten his life.

If there is someone that feels any disagreement with Kaepernick is racism then take it up with that person, not me.

With due respect--You're wrong on several levels. Most folks that get offended tend to see a disconnect between their value system and that of the offending party. That could be for a variety of reasons, fair, unfair, misguided or whatever, but the simple fact is they see the world differently than someone else. As for the impact on their life, well, that's subjective. If you're a fan of the team, and the team signs a guy who you have serious disagreements with, well the impact is immediate and real. Finally, the fact that some 'hates' CK for his protest is the exact opposite of blind hate.

What strikes me as funny is that the average football fan is passionate about the team they cheer for. Its an industry built on emotion. The NFL's model relies on that passion, and there are many, many people who become wealthy beyond their wildest dreams being involved in the game. Why would anyone think a subsection of the whole would not have an intense, visceral response to this sort of thing?

Football is entertainment. I'd think the Bills and every other team interested in CK as a contributor to the team would way all the pros/cons out and make an informed decision from there. I'd pass, and probably not pay to see CK play, based on the way I see the world. As for the Bills--well, it's important to know your audience too. I guess we'll see.

In an effort to get this to be a football topic again;

I think mobile guys arguably are the best backup QB's you could ask for. Unpredictable, a completely different style of play to gameplan for, and they make up for their deficiencies as passers (that all backups invariably possess) with that extra threat of taking off. If you need to go .500 when your starter was out, a guy like Vick or Kaep would be the ones who could do it short-term.
