I am not sure how you get three pages into a thread like this without having heard from Vince Lombardi:

  • It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get up.
  • The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.
  • The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.
  • Confidence is contagious. So is lack of confidence.

McKay was an underrated quote waiting to happen. Two of my favorites:

"We didn't tackle well today but we made up for it by not blocking."

"3 or 4 plane crashes and we're in the Playoffs"

My favorite Yogi wasn't a sports quote but rather about a NY restaurant, "Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded."

And who can forget, "you need to go to other people's funerals, or else they won't come to yours."

"I'll have the double lobster tail with hot drawn butter....and a deer steak"

- Mario Williams @ Tempo Restaurant, Buffalo, NY

March 2013.

And then said 10 minutes later....

"this meal doesnt suit me" and then proceeded to sit there with his arms crossed for the rest of dinner

John McKay was one of the funniest guys to ever coach.

Here's a bunch more quotes from him too:

"If my mother put on a helmet and shoulder pads and a uniform that wasn't the same as the one I was wearing, I'd run over her if she was in my way. And I love my mother."

"When my a$$ was 19 years old, I changed the face of professional baseball. I was handed the keys to the kingdom. Multi-million dollar deals. Endorsements. Everyone wanted a piece of my sh*t. Just a man with a mind for victory and an arm like a f*cking canon. But sometimes when you bring the thunder, you get lost in the storm. But a true champion, face to face in his darkest hour will do whatever it takes to rise above. A man fights, fights, and fights some more. Because surrender is death, and death is for pu$$ies. And my a$$ ain't no pu$$y. My a$$ is a f*cking champion. - Kenny Powers
