Lowers his cap hit to $4 million this year...Bills pulling out all the cap tricks...

Tip of the cap to the much derided and thoroughly misunderstood Jimmy Overdorf. He's working some cap magic this offseason.

GO BILLS!!!

The lynch mob with the pitchforks here are finally understanding the job that JO does. It is always weird here watching people rip Overdorf, Brandon, etc... without any real understanding of what the job entails. The Bills leadership is (and has always been) incredibly strong. The freedom to operate proves Overdorf isn't a liability but a cap wizard.

Maybe. But what if he plays well and wants to stay and the Bills want him. It probably jumps to 9m but better than having to re-sign him.

Or worse, resign him. :bag:

But they'll need to rework his deal in 2016 if they want to keep him because they'll owe him $20 for the last two seasons of this deal.

Let's give him more than a week before declaring wizardry

That structure helps this year, but absolutely guarantees it would be ripped up and redone if they decide to keep him beyond 2015.

It's an interesting approach to the one-year "prove it" type contracts that guys have to sign once they become question marks. And $2 million in dead money in 2016 (when they have like $50 million in cap space) shouldn't be too hard to handle...

While I agree that he seems to be doing a very good job now, and a lot of the problems with him doing his job before were Ralph or even Littman related, he was still a problem before because he was making some football decisions with his contract duty, and they were often bad ones. Now he does not do that anymore, and can concentrate on what he does know how to do only.

But thankfully he isn't a problem anymore he may be a plus.

Wasnt their a time when not many of us liked JO?

Boy have things changed eh?

CBF

he was filling shoes too big for his feet. Now he is on the right position to work the cap and contracts. He is given the pieces now and told to assemble them. Before he was given the assembly instructions and told to assemble the pieces.

In other words it seems like in years past they told him to get the # to $X. This year they are telling him to get the player to $Y. No more working to fill the roster. Just working to pay the roster.

He's not doing anything different than what he ever did before. He's just doing it without the strict budgetary constraints previously imposed.

Percy Harvin to the Bills

The price was right, and the fit is even better. Buffalo's offensive coordinator Greg Roman is creative, and has a ton of versatile weapons to use: Harvin, LeSean McCoy, Sammy Watkins, and Charles Clay. We love Harvin's fit in an offense that should focus on short passing and finding mismatches. Harvin knows he has hit a career crossroads. If he wants another big long-term contract, he will need to produce this season. Buffalo got a Pro Bowl talent at a bargain price. -- Gregg Rosenthal
