Receiving concerns on offense
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall
The good news is the playoffs are in January, not September. By then a player like Kincaid could be doing pretty well. A QB like Allen makes everyone around him look better too. They also should have better capability of pass catching out of the backfield too with Cook having a year experience, plus the Murray, Harris, and Hines. Recall last year reading between Allen being hurt and not practicing, then the snow storm limiting things, in early December, Hines and Allen had only practiced 2 or 3 times together. Davis also was hurt a good part of the year too. The other side of it, who should they have signed with limited $$ to spend. Most of their signings were all lower salaried players with a couple of exceptions. Not sure what true #2 WR they could have signed with the amount of money they had. Maybe if Hopkins finds out there's little market for him at the salary he wants, they will sign him too, doubtful IMO but every day he remains unsigned increases the chances too. -
From everything I've been reading Kinciad will be used more like a WR than a TE. All speculation at this point, but the thinking is they won't ask too much of him from a blocking perspective. Put those two things together and think he could have a better year year than most rookie TE's typically do. I agree with Hardy being a stretch but do think McGovern will bolster the offense if for no other reason he's being looked at as replacing Stafford who was terrible. While he may not be all pro, still should see a big improvement overall on the line. Getting back to Hardy, while not great, still may be a big improvement over last year, once Crowder got hurt. He and Sheffield and Shakir not being a rookie should provide better depth than what we had by the 2nd half of last year Think to they have better complimentary depth at RB too. There wasn't enough distinctive difference between Singletary and Cook, and even Hines. Moss was supposed to be that bruiser, but never worked out.

Exactly, I'd have called it the Patrick Mahomes rule before the Allen rule.

Damm it I need that now!! So what is GIPHY anyway?

The comment was: "It's weird to me that there has been zero information given by anyone about him." That to me is saying there's an expectation that info be given. Maybe that's not entitlement, but also ignores the point as @eball stated maybe the family doesn't care to share anything. And yes do agree the less info given the more speculation there is and rumors, but doesn't seem to lessen the expectation of information needs to be given either.

Think it will be a 3 man race between Boogie, AJ and Shaq. Initially all 3 may stick if Miller starts out on IR/PUP. Throw in Settle there too as a 4th name that could be let go since they signed Ford.

Haven't seen any contract details posted and not planning to try and read through 36 pages to look for it. Could be the same issue as last week with Hopkins, until the league office opens Monday, not one will know much WRT contract structure. Having said that: Last off season can recall reading many threads how they shouldn't sign Edmunds to an extension or should trade him. Neither happened, now he's gone and probably the #1 off season topic here at TBD is who is going to play MLB this coming year. If we didn't sign Oliver likely would be having the same conversation a year from now about DT. Oliver is far from a bust as some suggest. He's an above average starting caliper player, probably rated in the top 20 to 30 range and now will be paid in the top 15 range. If he'd been drafted in round 2 or 3, there's be no complaints, but instead was drafted top 10. By the time Oliver is in year 3 of this contract. his salary will be a bargain assuming even he stays at the same level of play from him. Seen some posts stating that Kyle Williams was a better player, maybe, but took him a long number of years to get to that level. Oliver is still only 25! Likely if they didn't sign him now he'd be gone in the off season as if he played even slightly better, he'd have been offered a contract by some team more than the Bills could afford. And if he played poorly, the Bills would have offered him less, but likely some other team still would have topped the Bills offer and he'd be gone. IMO players on 5th year options who aren't signed to extensions tend to have a bit of a chip on their shoulder that the team didn't give them an extension, I'm not wanted here so I'm gone. There's no home town discount in that situation. Players too realize that their 2nd contract is the one they need to cash in on for every $$ they can get. By the time a 3rd contract comes up, more likely to take a home town discount assuming they like the team and they are winning to some level. Poyer comes to mind in that wouldn't be surprised if he could have got more elsewhere, but wanted to return. Think this deal is made as being in a win now mode. If the Bills had traded him, we'd be weaker at DT this year and not likely to find an equal or better player unless willing to pay even more. If they didn't sign him, as stated MO he likely would have left after this year as some other team would have over paid for him. Likely would have drafted his replacement and even if there's no improvement at all from Oliver, the odds of a rookie coming in and being equal to or better are slim. Yes we'd have had money to spend, but the team probably would not have been as good in 2023 or 24 overall. So they over paid a bit now, but can get out of contract after 2 or at most 3 seasons with minimal cap hit particularly when compared to overall salaries by 2025. Overall a bit surprised, but am OK with it as the team is better with him playing than with an future unknown filling his spot. And maybe this move is being made to free up money to sign Hopkins.

Sunday ticket advance prices released

OK. my view is so they call it something else next year, loyalty reward, etc. Or they don't offer any discounts and quickly find out the price point that people are willing to pay. At $489 Reddit starts to look good again. Actually was disappointed I had already signed up when I saw this years schedule, as many Bills games that are either at 4:25, or prime time, kind of felt it's not worth paying for it. -
Sunday ticket advance prices released

Is there a link to where it states that? My take on it is like anything that goes on sale, once the sale ends it goes back to standard price. Until the next sale. And the next sale could be even better or not as good, or not on the terms you want. But did YTTV state there will never be another early discount in future years? Always found that kind of annoying on DTV. Would rather be able to just click up one or maybe two channels to see local game rather than have to switch from channel 800 something to #4. If they have the technology to know say I'm in the Buffalo viewing area, why can't they also show the channel 4 broadcast on channel 8XX. Likely will be the same with YTTV too -
Hopkins released by Arizona (7/16: signed by Titans)
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
Been meaning to look this up for some time, finally did. Have to say kind of shocked to realize that Hopkins is a year older than Diggs. Seemed like just a couple seasons ago was watching him playing for Clemson. Make me less inclined to make a deal for him unless real team friendly. -

More like Pop Warner in many cases Think teams like Bills and Chiefs have made offers, but he want's more and shopping around to try and get it from one of his "dream teams" that he'd like to go to. Either his demands will come down to where what teams like the Bills are offering and he'll sign. Or some team will come out of no where that isn't that good, but will offer him a boat load of money in hopes that it will increase odds of other high level players following him next off season. No idea if Cleveland has the cap space, but if so wouldn't shock me to see him go there. -
There was an article I read somewhere the other day that touched on this and quoted the league rules. The language is a bit vague on whether he'd still fit the formula after taking a year off as seem to recall something about the word continued employment or something?? The writers take was likely would be subject to debate and appeal to the league. Don't get your hopes up. Just found where I read it, one of the provisions in the rule, the question was does taking a year off count as a break: The minority employee is not the Head Coach or Primary Football Executive of the employer-club and is hired into the same position with the new club. There can be no break in employment between clubs.

Yes it would have been much more productive if McD and Beane both just said: The coaches did a great job, the players all sucked! That will help build moral! You must just spend al day looking for comments you can use however best against whomever is your latest target which for the most part is McD and Beane.

So coaches contracts often contain offsets if they take a new job. Do players contracts contain any of the same? -
Will DeAndre Hopkins be available this offseason?

Terrible news that he got released, now this thread won't reach 300 pages. -
I grew up in the NYC area and was a Mets, Jets, Knicks, and Islanders fan. I hated the Yankee's but didn't hate Giants. I'd root for Giants other than if playing Jets. Not sure I'd have called myself a die-hard fan as a kid had better things to do, but certainly rooted for them. Moved to western NY in 1976, still rooted for Jets over Bills. Then from around 1983 till 86 both teams were very bad and really didn't follow much of either one and wasn't all that much news to follow. Then in 86 Bills came alive and ever since then have followed them closely and would call myself more of a die-hard fan. Back then there was little to no internet, sports bars were just starting to open so hard to even watch games of out of market team particularly when there is an in market team near by. I've since moved out of western NY and live in Carolina, but still follow and root for Bills exclusively, much easier now with internet, ST, streaming sites, etc all around. Same thing kind of happened with me with the Sabre's and root for them now too, though admittedly living in NC, not much of any hockey to follow all that much down here. (even with an in-state team).

The post I was replying to "Kings somebody" had both Hamlin and Marlowe on the 53, 5 safeties. That's not likely. Again the post I was replying to had Miller on the 53 along with 4 other DE's plus 5 DT's for a total of 10. That's also not typically happened, usually a total of 9 D lineman on the 53 and more often was 5 DE and 4 DT. With him having 5 safeties and 10 DL you're short changing other areas of roster, and it appeared with 27 defensive players and only 23 on offense, that was the area. IMO based on past performance, not likely to happen. I agree Miller's injury isn't the same, but Miller yesterday stated he'd be back by Oct 6th, that's 4 games in. Most articles I've read all project him to not be on the initial 53 and will be out for 6 games. Add in that it's 2nd knee injury and he's getting older all work against he team rushing him back. He may be ready week 1 to go or close enough that's they'd keep him active, but just as likely he's not there.
